  1. both my credit and debit card have contactless so if I just tap my card holder to the payment machine, it doesn't work so I have to take out my credit card out every time. life is HARD

  2. Brixton is crazy expensive now.

Also worth thinking about sharing a house with strangers. The more bedrooms, the more you'll save. The last place I rented (this was quite a few years ago now) was in Tottenham and 4 of us paid £1000 a month between us, so I was only paying £250 a month in rent. House wasn't great but we had some legendary parties in there.

Is it that expensive now? I guess London gentrifies at a scary pace...

Sharing is definitely the way to go. London has an oversupply of large and very large apartments / houses so if you don't mind sharing, you can live in some awesome places for a fairly reasonable price. When I was in school, most of my classmates lived in really really nice 3-5br apartments (think 2,500 - 4,000 sq ft multi million £ places) in Marelybone / St-John's Wood and most were in the £750 - 900 range per bedroom (and i'd say at least 80% had ensuite bathroom). For comparison, studios in the same neighborhoods were generally in the £1,400 - 1,600 pcm range.

  3. 800 each or for the both of you? if you define central london as zone 1 and 2, you'll need an incredible amount of luck to find livable a 1br at under 250 pw (1,100 / month) or even 300 pw. perhaps around brixton or elephant and castles, but not the greatest of neighborhoods.

  4. Guys is canary wharf worth a studio ?

To live in or to work? I would never live there in a million years, but for work, if you pricing is right and the commute not too painful, it could do although I can't say it feels like a very creative place.

  5. I tried doing that in Jp ith various proxies/servers and shit didn't work. Any way 2 watch Netflix in Jp?

there's quite few vpn / dns services out there that work really well. I use unlocator, which takes literally 30 sec to set up, can be used on all devices and cost $5 / month. Yyu can choose which country settings to use, which can be useful if you want to stream local content from other countries as well (ie. BBC UK has a lot of free sporting events that can only be streamed in the UK, etc)

  6. Fairmont has the best bagels, saint-viateur is a very close 2nd best (tbh, those 2 are the best and whichever you prefer is more down to personal preference)

mass: don't you have thai express in vancouver? I've been craving it and I walk by two on the way back from work and it closes at 6pm...

  7. Canadians got fucked with how weak the Canadian dollar is. The price increase on the new retina MacBook Pro is brutal. $1299 -> $1549 for a base 13" rMBP. $1149 for a base 13" Air. Held off buying a laptop til the Spring Forward event too. Might just buy a refurb.

I noticed the same thing with the watch. Fucking CDN prices (not just from Apple, but from every company) are so sticky when the C$ appreciates, but way too quick to increase the the C$ depreciate......

  8. New arrivals from Isaora. Anyone got experiences with their stuff? Some decent looking pieces but still not quite convinced.

As other have said, well designed and fits really well. Price point is well, well below comparable brands so obviously, materials / details / quality cannot be compared. That being said, I think that most items offer really good value for the money (the outerwear more so than basics), but you just can't expect ACR, Veilance, etc level.

The sizing can be a little weird (ie. sleeves are pretty big and long, while body is cut short), but I like the style and it still works great on me even though I'm 6'0

  9. It looks like a nice, comfortable, not to mention well-made, pair of shoes... I just can't get over that zipper...  :(

SOOOO... what's your opinion on the material @ the back of the shoe? What is it? Does it serve some specific purpose or just look cool?

It think it could have looked good if that zipper was properly sewn in rather than sloppily sticking out. it just look as if someone wanted to put a zipper in, but was too incompetent / retarded to do it properly

  10. not a 'fashion' documentary per se, but patagonia just put this out. i've always had a soft spot for them.

Ok, so I was getting back into Patagonia, was thinking of getting a few things, but after after watching this, I decided against it. The clothes are nice but Patagonia brand and me and absolutely incompatible.

  11. Hey guys, I'm visiting Montreal for the first time in April with my gf, staying for a full week, and planning to rent a place through airbnb--

Which neighborhoods/streets should I be looking at for a place to stay?  we would like to be able to walk around to restaurants/cafes from the rental home and explore the city by foot as much as possible.  so far i've been looking at places around little italy, mile end, le plateau-- are any of these neighborhoods better than the others? and.. which area is most likely to make my gf say "this is such a cute neighborhood"? haha

In addition to what other have said, you might want to check out places in Old Montreal. I'm biased because that's where I use to live, but think it's the best neighborhood in montreal (and definitely the cutest). Very old and european with great shops and restaurants and walking distance to downtown, griffintown, etc. Mile End is also very awesome (my mom live in Outremont so I'm there a lot when I visit). If you do end up with a place on the Plateau, don't go to far east. Little Italy is nice, but might be a little far for your purpose (it'll be cheaper though).

  12. Haha, I actually think Maison Kayser is pretty good (both for pastries and bread). Bien Cuit, Francois Payard, Levain and Balthazar are my favorite, but I live on the UES so I generally have to do with Eli's or Dean & Deluca (both of which are generally good, but can be inconsistent). Almondine, Breads, Bouchon, Lafayette, etc are also all very good too. So there's definitely so really good stuff to be had, it's just that the average bread (especially from the grocery) is just really bad. I'm french canadian and very attached to my baguette so I know I can be peculiar about it lol!!!!

When I lived in Tokyo, I was in Shinjuku and I always told myself I would wait for that place of Lumine and never found the motivation to wait the line lol. And I could live the rest of my life eating solely eclairs from Sadaharu Aoki!!!!

  13. A good baguette is perhaps my favorite thing to eat and it's true that good ones are really hard to find in Japan. Obviously in Tokyo there's a lot more options, but I never really understood the Japanese love of soft chewy bread (don't get me started about the sliced bread). Not helping is the humid climate, really crusty bread will inevitably turn soft after not that long.

But then, appreciation of good bread is something that really differs across culture and Japan is definitely not the only place where finding good bread is hard. There's only a handful of place in NYC I will buy bread from, Whole Foods bread in general is disgusting and pretty much inedible, etc...

  14. What's your take on bluetooth earbuds? Reading around, it seems that there's still a gap in sound quality vs. wired earphones, but I am wondering how much of a gap are we talking about. I keep knocking my phone out while working out so I really want to get a pair, but unsure whether I should get a decent pair (the Jaybird Bluebuds S seems to be the best option) and use as my main earbuds or if it's still too early to get proper quality and should get something really cheap just for working out and sticking with my wired earbuds for other listening.

  15. if something in the liberal arts captivates you enough that you're willing to make some sacrifices, i don't see why it's disagreeable. most liberal arts students i know, including myself (one of my degrees will be a BA), just sort of want to do their own thing and pursue their own interests as much as possible in life. this may be aristocratic, but why should that matter? just don't have a family and don't be involved romantically with someone who demands a lifestyle outside of your means post graduation. maybe this is an easier thought for me to accept than others, though.

I think you are missing the point. There is absolutely nothing wrong with living your life the way you mentioned. The problem is that in the US, getting said BA can cost up to 200K, which will end up handicapping you financially for life while not providing you with any marketable skill. Unless you attend a very well regarded college, I don't think paying more than 2-3K a year for liberal art studies is a smart financial option.

I know quite a few people who attended very prestigious colleges, but are head deep in student debt while struggling to built a career because they choose a useless major (english, woman studies, etc) while some of their classmates who made better choices are building very fulfilling careers (and in many cases making bank).

  16. Anyone know if its worth going on the third day or will everything have been picked over.  Returning my IS Field Jacket so I've got some decent spending money now.

I left around 7 last night and there was still a lot of stuff left, 2 full rack of Veilance and a huge section of Isaora, huge section of Ervell, etc.

  17. any thoughts on the new Real Madrid / Yohji champions league jersey??

while i think it's great that they chose yohji (i'm now dreaming of an Arsenal / Jun Takahashi colabo although i know it won't happen now that we have puma jersey....), the dragon is kind of an obvious asian market money grab and i can't say i like it too much...

    also joined the league!!!
