This one got a little upgrade. Went 9 speed in the rear, 9 speed ultegra shifters, and 8 speed xt rear derailer. Also some kool stop cross pads so it will actually stop. It was already fun on the trails with horrible shifting and brakes, so it should be even better now.

Just picked this up… 1990 I think bianchi volpe. Looks like it will take 38mm tires easy.

So, I’ve been wanting to try ergo shifters, but am kind of in love with my vintage roval wheels, which take a 7 speed freewheel. At the co-op the other day I was looking around the back room and saw a tiny touring bike with what looked like 8 speed campy ergos. I got closer and it was actually Sachs, which were made by campy. Also had a Sachs 5000 derailer set , some early speed play pedals, and a super long 27.0 American classic seatpost. I offered $100 and it was mine. so… indexing is interesting. The Sachs went on and shifted alright, but still hanging up on some shifts. I took it off and got the 7 speed chorus derailer to shift pretty well across the 7 speed shimano cassette. Extremes will hang up, but the middle gears work well. updated pics:

What are your jeans doing today?

No, mix of 1st gen chorus and Athena. Usually on vintage roval tubular wheels, but they are in the shop.

What are your jeans doing today?

Very nice! And Columbus is good stuff… I’m more into vintage, and 531 kinda dominates that, but my favorite is my slx de Rosa. I’d love to try a modern filet brazed frame one day.

Nice, what tubing? How much filing will the filets get?

This ones finally finished. Wasn’t happy with the pedals on it, so got some early 70s campy. Only the left one fit. Discovered the previous owner had the left arm tapped to 9/16, but the right was French. Got it tapped for 9/16 at the shop yesterday and hoping to ride after work. It’s a good mix of French (frame, cranks), Italian (lots of campy), and English(531 tubes, brooks pro)

Oh, I’ve been on classiclightweights.uk. I love the old stuff. Unfortunately the only uk bikes you see in the us are Raleigh. funny… the de Rosa is the most modern bike I’ve had. It’s a 7 speed freewheel and aero levers. Fancy.

That’s crazy. Seems like y’all still have good prices on other things tho… I’ve been buying tubulars from Merlin online because they are half the price as American shops for veloflex and vittoria
