  1. If he can't use the search button, then you guys don't have to respond. Maybe if nobody responds he won't ask the questions. It's funny, because 4-5 times a week somebody asks a question in well worn territory, but there are always people who tell him to use the search function. Then every once in awhile (and this really bugs me) somebody will clown the people clowning the original clown... right? Ah my hypocracy runs sooooo deep!

  2. I will try and post some pictures of me wearing them. I seem to be having trouble posting pictures. The fit of the jeans is baggy. I think baggier jeans will have whiskers that run down the leg, whereas tight jeans will have more dense whiskers in the lap area.

To all those who are buying stfs: I am not trying to knock y'all. The 501 stfs are a decent jean, but i just think if you pay 160 for the better denim you are getting by far your money's worth and also a pair of jeans that will hold their color and fading much longer.

  3. I am not trying to say that stfs are crap, but after a wash the denim is soft and not very dark. You will never get great contrast with stfs the way you would if you broke in some LVCs.

If those picture posts didn't work this link should:

The dark pair is a pair of sugar canes that have been cold soaked and worn to work for 2.5 months. the light pair is a pair of 501 stfs that were worn raw for 2 weeks to work and cold washed, then worn to work for a week.

As you can tell the levi stfs are quite lighter than the sugar canes.

  4. I would recommend getting some higher end dry denim if you want a good fading process. The new STFs lose a lot of color after the first wash and the denim isn't quite thick enough to produce the honeycombing you want. It is possible to get honeycombing, but they won't be drastic. I would save up and spend the money on some Levis LVC. They are quite a bit more, but the denim will last forever.

  6. Not a meathead huh? I have seen videos of mike V skating in parking lots and be confronted by the gardeners/landscapers, who asked him if he could not ruin the planters buy doing gaps over them. What did he do? Start pushing them. Asking what are they gonna do about it. These are just some working class dudes trying to make a living and they got to deal with some over-priveleged testosterone junky? Fuck that. I have seen numerous videos of this dude acting "tough" and over aggressive. If that ain't a meathead i don't know what is. The poppyfying isn't due just to mike v, but i think skating being paired with motocross has added a meathead element to the sport. I don't think mike v had any direct link to this, but i know tons of meatheads who think mike v is the coolest, cuz he can fight and will fight. By the way... Mike V was not the initial subject of my post, but some here have chosen to take a fraction of that post and blow it out of proportion.

  7. Let me rephrase. Mike V is a fucking meathead. Whether he dropped out of school or has been skating for 20 yrs doesn't matter. What does matter is that i have seen idiotic kids get into skating because they see some meathead like "Mike V" and they go with the stereotype. Disagree with me about Mike V all you want, but the poppyfying (?) of skating has dropped the quality of people in the sport. I don't mean the quality of the sport or the tricks that can be pulled these days, but rather the entire quality of the people in the sport. Money hungry and image obsessed. Maybe i just have a problem with meatheads. "some bitch highschool kid from europe"? I wish. I live in the good ole US of A where the president can still lie our ass into a war and anything and i mean anything can be commodified and sold like skating, punk, hip hop, surfing, etc.

  8. One thing i have noticed about skating is its popularity. The skaters/bmxers i hung out with when i was quite young were usually the outcast crew, the politically conscious crew, the anti-pop crew. Somewhere down the line skating and the scene got screwed up. I think it has a direct correlation with the espning and xgaming of skating. Once the mass audience saw these skaters paired with the motocross idiots they thought they were one and the same. Next thing you know you have motocross jackasses from honkyville USA skating and turning skating into a meathead sport. Mike vallely (?) (I believe that is that idiots name) has no business skating nor do bam margera or any of those other clowns. For the most part i believe skating has lost its he(art) since it became pop. There are still some cool skate cats out there, but once wealthy, spoiled brats become the movement it can only go downhill. I still don't think this is reason alone to rip on all skaters, just those clowns that co-opt the style/image.

  9. I recommend to anybody buying the jeans raw to cold soak them first, before wearing them. This shrinks the jeans so that your wear marks will remain in the same spot. Not to mention the jeans will be very baggy until you choose to wash them. Then they will fit rather snug. I know that i like my jeans to fit the same at all times. The cold soak does not affect the wearing process much. Most of the sugarcanes you will see on online galleries have either been bought in the one wash state or cold soaked prior to wearing them.

  10. Griffin: Go for the 29. My waist measures a real 31.5 - 32. I typically wear 30s in other jeans. I ordered the 31s because they told me that the final waist measurement would be 31 inches. I got the jeans, i cold soaked them and now the jeans are baggy on me. The waist fits okay, but not quite tight enough. I now use those for work and ordered a pair of 30s. The 30s got a cold soak and fit much better. Go for the 29s and cold soak them. Try on the jeans while they are still damp. If they fit too tight then wear the jeans until they dry and they should stretch out to your size. If they fit just right, then hang dry them and they should shrink a slight bit during the drying process.

  11. I think i am into the mid 00s. probably around 2005 or some sort. Hah. Just kidding. I tend towards the 50s with a more cowboy feel. Western shirts, raw levis, and cowboy boots. I try my best to look like Paul Newman in the movie "Hud."

  12. Go with the 29 in a one wash state. If they fit you well when you first get them, then don't ever hardwash them or else they will shrink that extra inch in the waist. Otherwise that 29 should fit you just fine. If i was you i would think about buying the jeans in the unwashed state and doing the shrinking yourself. The denim didn't look fuzzy after i did this. I think the sugarcane one washes are heat dried rather than hang dried.
