  1. V Cleat Heel Help...

Is there anything one can do to make it easier to walk WITHOUT ruining the V Cleat look?

    Gotta learn to slide :D

If you want to still be able to see the cleat, there isn't really much you can do. Maybe you can look for a "clear" topy but I have never heard of that, and it sounds extremely lame to go to such lengths. If you like the cleat, just keep it raw, if you are afraid of injuring yourself, get a topy.

  2. would you guys approve something like this be worn with a single button black tie affair?

    What's a single-button black tie affair?

    Is that a tux?

    Is your suit/tux black?

Under either of these scenarios, you should not really wear cordovan, double sole, or even a blucher, which each of these are. It's like a triple-negative. You could still probably get away with it, but you are asking what is appropriate, and none of these are.

You should wear a black leather closed-lace (oxford) shoe. If you are trying to buy something which you can use often in the future, a plain black captoe oxford (not a blucher) will serve you well. You can probably also do a punch cap, or a wingtip. But still black, still oxford.

If by single button black tie you mean a moddy slim trend suit, then you could probably wear whatever you want. Still, sleek dress shoes are gonna work better than bomb-proof cordovan boots.

  3. I searched this thread and didn't see these new (?) Red Wings mentioned yet.

I spotted them while browsing Zappos Red Wing selection. Kind of cool. They remind me a bit of the boots I've seen from some of the Japanese brands posted in here.

I saw these in person at Gimme Shoes, the bottom one in suede. They look good, they look like GTs with different details. The shape is the same.

  4. if they were your size and you won them would you wear? for me i think id at least try em on before i display.

    I wouldn't, personally.

There are plenty of lesser deadstock levi's to wear, you could buy a pair for $500 or $1000 or $2000. I just couldn't wear $36,000 museum pieces. It would be messing with history.

Levi's experts - is this top 10 known Levi's of all time? Top 5?

  5. I called the Red Wings store in Hackensack, NJ a few times. They said they didn't stock any moc-toe boots. Being in a mall, they might be specializing in the fashion-style models that RW thought could revitalize the company....

Their prices depend on the model. The cheapest US source I know of is Sherman Brothers. I ordered Gentleman Travelers for $216 shipped.

  6. Woah, that tongue is pretty cool. None of my Aldens have this on the inner-lining. You wouldn't see it on the shell Indy boots because they line the tongues as well, hiding the backside of the shell.

It's not the tongues that are stamped, it is the full hides themselves. Whether you see the stamp on the tongue is pretty much by chance.
