SUGAR CANE SUPER DENIM COLLECTIBLES, WHITESVILLE BORDER STRIPE TEES, & SPRING COLLECTIONS Led by Yuichi Fukutomi, a denim specialist from Sugar Cane, the new label SUGAR CANE Super “Denim” Collectibles was launched this year bringing together a team of denim experts. Renowned vintage denim collector, Shigeki Wakiya, has joined this project with a focus on faithfully replicating the “character” of super rare, deadstock, and golden-sized super-vintage pieces that are nearly impossible to find today. The inaugural collection features pieces which have garnered significant attention in the current vintage market and are known as the “World War II model.” Drawing inspiration from unwashed deadstock vintage denim blouses and jeans, complete with residual glue, new denim fabrics were developed and painstakingly duplicated to match the original vintages, capturing the color hue of oxidized indigo and the characteristics of the warp and weft yarns. Various components are created to emulate the aged appearance of deadstock. Regarding the sewing stitching, not only are the thread count and sewing pitch faithfully recreated, but also the irregular, non-uniform stitching is meticulously duplicated. The 1943 model represents a product manufactured during one of the most challenging years for material control within the U.S. industry, amidst the harsh conditions of World War II. It features highly uneven and rugged denim fabric, military-style doughnut buttons, steel rivet, and all yellow-stitching. It omits rivets on the coin pocket, and has uncoated concealed rivets, preserving their natural steel color. The pocket bags are made from flannel fabric, demonstrating the strict cotton usage regulations of the time. Similarly, due to a shortage of skilled workers, various irregularities, such as rough sewing stitches, misaligned back yoke seams, and imperfect hemming, can be observed, which would be considered unacceptable in normal circumstances. We've also received new striped whitesville t-shirts in a heavier weight fabric, Duke Pineapple summer shirts, and jean restocks in all fits in both indigo and black. It’s got a long rise, a super wide leg, and is made of an in-house developed 14oz indigo or 16oz black/black Japanese selvedge denim. This was a instacop for many of our staff members across our stores when it was first released three years ago, the fit is just so perfect and it's now been stepped up with the double-knee detail. We’ve also received the Rick Owens LIDO edition of the Made in Japan Detroit. We love the way these turned out and are excited to offer this model in what we think is the most versatile jean silhouette Rick Owens produces. These are made of a in-house developed 14oz Japanese selvedge denim with a pure indigo dyed warp and natural weft. This denim truly comes alive after it’s been soaked or softened by a bit of wear and we can’t wait to see some pairs of these super worn in over time. THE FINE CREEK SHINKI HORSEHIDE RYAN JACKET The Fine Creek RYAN jacket in Shinki horsehide is back! We’ve got a hot one this week from Fine Creek. The Ryan model is here and is made of what we believe to be the best horsehide in the world from Japan’s famed Shinki Hikaku tannery. This 1.3mm tea-core dyed horsehide feels and looks great when new and looks unbelievable when broken in. Fine Creek have created a completely new Shinki "recipe" for the Ryan model, we've never seen a Shinki horsehide which looks and feels like this. SAMURAI ZERO FABRIC ECRU JEANS & T-SHIRTS Samurai’s ZERO FABRIC is now available as an 18oz natural undyed slub denim with a "dirt" selvedge ID. Samurai has done a crazy but beautiful thing.. In 2010 they bought a small farm outside Osaka, Japan, with the hopes they would be able to grow their own cotton with the intention of one day being able to make garments made of their own cotton, as in a truly vertically made garment. After fourteen years they've been able to grow enough cotton to make jeans and of course they're as beautiful as the story behind them. The cotton is minimally processed in very small batches without the use of any harsh cleaning or whitening agents, also all fractured cotton seeds and all staple lengths are left in the cotton during the carding and spinning process for a truly unique fabric. We can really say we’ve never felt or seen denim like this from any company. These jeans are now available in very small numbers at our stores. FINE CREEK VIRGINIA BEACH HORSEHIDE TYPE II JACKET Fine Creek Leather’s Virginia Beach Type II jacket is finally back in stock after being unavailable for over three years. This is our number one most client requested horsehide jacket from any brand we carry, and we’re excited to see that it’s available again. The way the front chest pleats pull and pucker with wear is truly a sight to behold. This comes in as a classic fit with just a hair of length added to the body. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fine Creek makes some of the most beautiful horsehide jackets we've seen. Using a vegetable tanned Japanese Shinki horsehide, which ages in a fairly fast manner, they cut and sew these jackets in their own studio in Tokyo. The quality of stitching is as good as it gets for a leather jacket, and we've not seen many jackets age as well as these do. Depending on the panel they'll use a different type of stitch thread and thread count to achieve puckering in certain areas for added character.
