STUDIO D'ARTISAN 45TH ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION JEANS We have two very special limited edition jeans this week for Studio D'Artisan's 45th anniversary. First we have the TRIPLE SELVEDGE jeans, made in limited numbers for their 45th anniversary. They’ve modified their vintage denim looms to produce an unusually narrow fabric, measuring only 20cm to 38cm wide as opposed to the normal 80cm width of selvedge denim. This enables them to make a jean with three selvedge IDs running down the inside of each leg; triple the selvedge to triple your pleasure. To produce this jean they also reproduced the original yarn used to produce the first SDA jean ever made forty-five years ago, the “D-01”. These are produced in SDA’s classic straight leg fit and are exclusive to Self Edge. Truly a one of a kind jean. We also have the HINODE AWA NATURAL INDIGO jeans, also a limited model made for their anniversary collection. These are produced of a 15oz slub yarn cotton with a natural indigo warp and akane vegetable dyed weft. The natural indigo warp yarns were dipped 30 times with long oxidation periods, an anomaly for natural indigo as normally natural indigo yarns aren’t dipped in the dye bath for this long of a period with this made dips. This technique mixed with the akane vegetable dyed weft yarns creates one truly unique jean. These are produced in SDA’s classic straight leg fit. 3SIXTEEN NEP DENIM CHORE COATS & COTTON TWILL FLANNELS Chore coats from 3sixteen have landed at all stores. These are made of a short staple “nep” cotton fiber Japanese denim and finished with 3sixteen branded YKK hardware and bar tacked pockets. THE FINE CREEK SHINKI HORSEHIDE MARIANA JACKET The Mariana jacket from Fine Creek is back. This model is made of a Shinki Tannery vegetable tanned tea-core dyed 1.5mm horsehide custom made to Fine Creek’s specifications and is 100% cotton gabardine lined, perfect for year-round wear. Fine Creek makes some of the most beautiful horsehide jackets we've seen. These are made using a vegetable tanned Japanese horsehide from Japan's famed Shinki Tannery, which ages in a fairly fast manner, and dyed using a "tea core" style method. The quality of stitching is as good as it gets for a leather jacket, and we've not seen many jackets age as well as these do. Depending on the panel they'll use a different type of stitch thread and thread count to achieve puckering in certain areas for added character. INTRODUCING WERKSTATT MÜNCHEN - STERLING SILVER WITH LIFE Werkstatt München, now at Self Edge! We’re happy to announce we’ve started working with Germany’s Werkstatt München to bring you a collection of hand-made sterling silver jewelry. This is a line we’ve been quite familiar with for twenty years and are excited to finally bring them into our stores. The collection is produced in Werkstatt’s own studio in Munich Germany out of .925 sterling silver, complete with in-house designed and produced clasps and hand-stamped (not cast) hallmarks. Similar ones are coming back made of a chrome-tanned suede cowhide in both black and indigo, the main difference is the new ones have a 2021 Vibram sole and they removed the instep strap. We're getting them in both black and tan in January.

There's a bit of misinformation here.. The margins are not what you think they are. Some of the lowest margins internationally are Samurai, PBJ, and Fullcount. More importantly, It's not the international retailers doing this, it's the international distributors/agents. Take it from someone who's spent two decades working with Japanese denim brands; it's ALWAYS the distributors, not the retailers, which are behind these types of sales policy changes.

THE FLAT HEAD SUMMER COLLECTION A major Flat Head delivery just hit our stores this week. Compared to the old RJB denim the new ones are a much darker indigo shade, closer to the Pioneer denim, and they aren't as fuzzy as the old RJB denim was. I think they'll fade closer to how Flat Head's Pioneer denim used to fade over time.

CRISTINA SPIRIDAKIS, COSTUME DESIGNER FROM THE BEAR We caught up with Cristina Spiridakis in Athens, Greece. Cristina is the costume designer who purchased white t-shirts from Self Edge 3 years ago and put Carmy (aka, Jeremy Allen White) from The Bear in them for the pilot episode, three seasons in and Carmy is still wearing the same t-shirts in every episode. Not just any plain white t-shirt, one that created such an internet frenzy that we believe it changed the public perception of a white t-shirt for the first time since Marlon Brando wore one in A Streetcar Named Desire in 1951. Cristina’s t-shirt choice created years of endless “What t-shirt is Carmy wearing in The Bear?” news articles, hundreds of memes, online searches for the tee across reddit/forums/discords, a wild sales boom for nearly all high-end blank white t-shirts, endless brands cashed in by using Carmy’s image to sell white tees, and lastly, a newfound mainstream respect for a blank white t-shirt. The humble white t-shirt thanks you Cristina. For those who were unaware of all this until now.. Carmy from The Bear wears a Merz B. Schwanen 215 loopwheeled t-shirt and a Whitesville Japanese t-shirt from their 2-pack series. Other characters in The Bear may or may not be seen wearing Strike Gold t-shirts.

PURE BLUE JAPAN SUMMER COLLECTION Pure Blue Japan comes through with a new fabric for those wanting their signature selvedge denim they're known for but in a lighter shade of indigo. These “Smoky Blue” jeans have a very unique shade and feel, even for Pure Blue Japan, which is saying a lot. We have a very special Type II jacket from Pure Blue Japan made of a custom developed gray and black jacquard woven sashiko stitch fabric. These jackets have added hand pockets and are finished with custom iron buttons and chainstitch construction. We've also received new Knit Heavyweight Indigo Striped T-Shirts! These are made of a PBJ developed pure indigo dyed medium weight jersey and finished with double-needle construction and their signature PJB leaf embroidery. Updated Pioneer denim hits all stores next week, and online a week later!

Sorry to break it to you but Warehouse has the biggest denim production issues out any brand I'm familiar with in Japan. Their allocations for dealers is tiny, as you can probably see most stores have little to nothing in stock. When do they 1001xx again they also unfortunately won't be making the longer inseam version, only the regular (shorter) inseam version. With that said.. we have two new Flat Head jeans dropping in 10 days which are very nice, one of which we had a hand in the designing of the fit. I know you have a soft spot for Flat Head, and I feel that after some years off, their new jeans are very good (again).

NEW SAMURAI SUMMER COLLECTION The new S0520XX jean is Samurai's newest iteration of a classic straight leg jean with a medium rise and a tapered leg. These are made of their custom 15oz "Otokogi" denim made of a 100% Texas cotton fiber with tightly twisted slub yarns for an amazing texture and a unique aging potential. Samurai hits us with one of the best looking work shirts we’ve seen in some time. The contrast triple-chainstitch construction really does it for us and the nice engraved nut buttons over the sulfur-dyed herringbone fabric look great. Samurai’s Baker Pants are finally back in stock; we’ve had three small runs of these at our stores and they disappeared quickly. We’ve had Samurai make us a new batch and they now come with a very fancy sparkly selvedge ID. These “baker” pants are made of a unique 15oz fabric developed by Samurai that has a nice deep olive color and has some great textural qualities we've not seen before in any fabric before.
