SUGAR CANE NEP DENIM COLLECTION & MORE Nep denim jeans and jackets from Sugar Cane have landed. Made of a Sugar Cane original 13.7oz. indigo neppy denim featuring a warp yarn of rope-dyed indigo and a weft yarn of grey with colored nep. The jeans feature double knees only at the knee area and have some interesting tool pockets attached to both legs. The jacket features pre-war changeable buttons, a 3-in-1 pocket on the left chest, and adjustable cuffs. Sugar Cane’s Okinawa and Hawaii jeans are finally back in stock. The mill producing this denim had some issues running the fabric last year so no retailer had this model in stock for well over a year. They’re finally back, but Sugar Cane has stated going forward they will not be available year round and will only be produced once a year. SAMURAI INDIGO WINTER FLANNELS & OTOKOGI DENIM JEANS The new NATURAL BORN KILLERS and REPHLEX Samurai winter shirts pull out all the stops. The NBK flannel is a heavy and soft flannel that's been indigo dyed with a sulfur top for an indigo/black look complete with engraved indigo dyed buttons with absolutely perfect construction; they've nailed every element of this thing. This flannel will fade and age as a pair of jeans would over time with regular wear and washing. Samurai’s REPHLEX natural indigo-dyed dobby work shirt is made of a Japanese indigo/black spotted dobby fabric. Aiming for a color tone that resembles layering black dye over indigo fabric, Samurai used thread dyed with a combination of natural and synthetic indigo dyes, plus black thread, and then adjusted the number of thread colors that appear on the surface through weaving to achieve the desired color tones. Compared to both synthetic and natural indigo-dyed threads, black threads are pigment dyed so they don’t fade easily, as the fabric fades the dotted pattern will become more prominent. DEVOA X INCARNATION PIECE-DYED HORSEHIDE BOOTS Devoa x Incarnation Piece-Dyed Horsehide Boots, they’re here. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These boots are a collaboration between INCARNATION of Italy and DEVOA of Japan. Devoa provided the design and wooden lasts while INCARNATION was in charge of the shoemaking, dyeing, treatment, and oiling process. After the boot is constructed it’s object-dyed black then “cured” in a special oil which gives the horsehide a deep sheen. With repeated wear over time the leather surface will acquire a glossy shine and the wearer’s creases will become visible on the surface. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These boots are made using a McKay welt construction method and finished with a Vibram Morflex sole. MASAHIRO MARUYAMA WINTER COLLECTION OF EYEWEAR This week we have four eyewear releases from Masahiro Maruyama’s new collection. All four are made of Japanese titanium and acetate and come with tinted Carl Zeiss lenses with each frame's lens color matching the frame to the designer's specifications. As always, these lenses can be swapped out for prescription lenses by any optician. All four of these frames are quite unique and the attention to detail in both design and material finish is top notch, truly he's pushing the boundaries of eyewear design and manufacturing. SEUVAS COFFEE-DYED CAPSULE COLLECTION Seuvas brings us a new coffee dyed capsule collection taking three garments and presenting them in a subtle shade of “coffee” by garment dying them in spent coffee grounds from local cafes in their region of Japan. We have a beautiful 23oz herringbone canvas trucker jacket and two different medium weight canvas shirts, all three naturally dyed in a subtle "coffee" color and finished with a special edition version of the Seuvas porcelain button, this one with little tiny coffee beans hand painted onto the button.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Seuvas is a brand dedicated to the art of producing canvas of all weights. They own their own canvas looms and factory which produces their canvas exactly to their specifications for the right look and texture. They even cut and sew all the garments in their own workshop in Kurashiki, Japan using vintage sewing machines so that the canvas reacts with just the right amount of puckering at the seams. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The only exterior branding on their garments is a single hand-made porcelain button made from clay ore (Amakusa pottery stone) mined in Amakusa City, Kimamoto prefecture, Japan. Amakusa pottery stone is a historic pottery stone that is a raw material which has been used in Japanese pottery since the 17th century. POTEN WINTER COLLECTION OF JAPANESE BASEBALL CAPS Poten’s new winter collection is here. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This season we see Poten doing two fitted caps in a 100% work canvas and one adjustable cap in indigo denim and cowhide. These hats are crazy nice, nicer than any other straight ahead baseball cap we've ever seen. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Every cap style has a super soft and supple inner leather headband which has been lightly treated so it’s not destroyed by sweat. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The caps have zero exterior branding except for the stitches which you can see from the top of the crown from the interior branding tags being sewn into the center of the crown. The very short and simple answer to this is that brands like Rick Owens have a larger margin in place for both themselves AND their retailers, plus they spend a bit more on hardware/tags/packaging compared to your average Japanese denim brand. Those three things combined are the reason the prices are so high, without getting into the details of it, there's not much more to it.

Fun Fact: Rick Owens is one of the only two large fashion houses in the world still owned by the founders, the other being Comme de Garcons.

This is something I'd love to write a long form article about some day... the idea that Fashion brands are so serious while smaller more classic brands have "fun" or humor built into their collections. From my experience it's the exact opposite. The brands which are very serious about what they do with very little humor involved are the ones which Superdenim cherishes. Where as brands that don't take themselves so seriously when it comes to the brand personality are Fashion brands. Rick Owens is a perfect example of this, where absolutely nothing he does is without a strong sense of humor. It's a ridiculous clothing line run by a guy who finds humor in the most perverse and unexpected places, as he says himself "when the world is on fire the least we can do is laugh at ourselves". I think from a topical level, without any understanding of what the brand is truly about, it's very easy to think that a brand like Rick Owens takes itself so seriously, is all about doom and gloom, etc.. It also doesn't help that Rick is lumped in with dark fashion brands who do take themselves very seriously like MA+, Label Under Construction, Julius, and Viridi-anne.

For somebody who's supposedly been into raw denim for a while I would have though you'd be familiar with how raw denim doesn't drape naturally until it's been rinsed and/or worn for a bit, neither of which has happened in these photographs. Also, things "looking good" is highly subjective as you know. I've been doing this shit for 21 years now and have seen it all.... for every guy looking like a goon wearing Rick Owens there's a guy wearing a heritage fit that looks equally as bad (to me).

Sorry to hear about the accident! Glad to hear you're (mostly) ok. Those can definitely be repaired but with a hole that big it'll be quite noticeable of a repair job. Get them freshly washed and bring them into one of the shops!
