  1. anyone that makes the effort to offer a "high-quality" t-shirt in terms of fabric, cut, finishing, etc., and then decides to use a side seam rather than tubular construction in the body should be taken out into the street, tarred, feathered and then beaten with a wet rubber hose

  2. glory days = valencia st.-made raw LVCs for $154...those were the days

not sure what my state of mind would be right now if i could look back and remember buying legit vintage levis for $5 a pop at the local men's store

No relationship at all. They are a premium, mass market product. When I last saw them, maybe 2008 or so, LVC were $189 (glory days) and these were maybe $120 or $140. THey are based on the standard mass market cut and details (for instance, no chanstitched hems, or internal rivets IIRC).

  3. i tend to avoid pretty much everything LVC nowadays...aside from a pair of rigid STFs now and again...and the nice rigid Sunset chambray...i've soured on them over the last few years

Ahhh - thanks, was looking for any info about it and that was a ton - thanks for the lesson!

I had always thought everything they made was an actual repo - sorta takes away from the mystique a bit. Still good quality stuff in your opinion though?

  4. not totally sure what you're asking...is it an item produced by LVC for a recent collection? yes, i'm pretty sure it is.

is it an authentic reproduction of a historical garment once produced by Levi's? absolutely not.

yes, western shirts made by Levi in the 60s did have that tag, but in terms of fabric, cut and other details, they didn't look anything like the crap LVC is putting out.

i cringe any time i see LVC poop out yet ANOTHER shirt made with heavy cotton flannel, a "work shirt" cut and construction, regular buttons and then proceed to put that beautiful short horn western wear tag on it

Can anybody else confirm this tag? I don't know enough about LVC stuff to tell either way :(

  5. my guess is that those are just some non-lvc valencia st.-produced 501s...perhaps a "special limited edition" run of vintage inspired selvedge denim jeans from the late-80s, early-90s or even a pair of standard, pre-1984 STFs

  6. If I had to guess, I'd say fake...definitely not LVC...look to be the infamous "thai" fakes...the selvedge belt loop is what does it for me.

Guys, I need some info. reg. these 501.

Is it fake or original? LVC? What year?

  7. that's not necessarily true...I've recently seen rigid 506 jackets labeled as "made in usa"

506 and 507 jackets are made in turkey of US (Cone) denim. 557 is made in tukey out of Japanese denim (i believe).

  8. Yeah, I have a thermal-lined hoodie that I bought 6 or 7 years ago at an NYC Army-Navy. Tough as nails.

Also, if you're into US-made reverse-weave sweats and don't want to go broke, check out Wek:

They're ramping up production after a few years off. I have a couple pairs of pants and they are HEAVY, top-quality.

Anyone heard of a brand called Camber? I bought a few t-shirts made by them in the early-mid 90s from Interstate. They were very thick, heavy cotton, with contrasting neck and (short-sleeve) cuff and made in USA. I think I still have them somewhere.

  9. Do you mind telling us the price? I remember when you used to be able to mail your jeans to the Union Square store and get repairs done for $12. Mind, this was 5 or so years ago.

My 1947 LVC repaired with raw selvedge denim at the Levis Tailor Shop in the ground floor of the San Francisco flagship store.

I especially like how they repaired the pockets.

  10. LVC's rarely shrink a full 2" in the waist (and stay that way)...that's probably a rare maximum, but they will more than likely stretch back out close to pre-soak dimensions with a couple wears.

I would measure the waist to get a true size before deciding to return them though. It's likely (especially with '47s) that they'll come in under 34".

Can anyone confirm if the more/most recent batches of '47s are still shrinking a full 2" in the waist over a few soaks (I know they tend to shrink more over multiple soaks)? I picked up with a pair of 34x34s that I would really need to come down to a tue 32" in the waist.

Would rather not soak (and just return) if I can't be sure to get them down that much...

    Thanks in advance...
