  1. ^lyon actually lost 2 in a row to low ranked clubs, so bit of a crisis there, and although yes they've got a good squad they still miss a great striker, i mean baros.....come on.

barca is not overrated in any way, but they haven't been on top form i agree, but still there 1st in the rankings and now with messi and eto'o back they will win la liga and the champions league!

hmm drogba is on good form this season, but imo chelsea is the ugliest team in the world so will never support that. robben has had a lot of injuries so don't be to hard on him.

for the holland league, i still think psv will win, though great that davids is back with ajax:)!!

oh and about the streetsoccer, my fav. players: vaantje, djuric, issy, falcao,

  2. We don't really have one good thread about soccer,so i figured i'd start one.

Just a general thread to discuss favorite teams/players/ latest matches etc. etc.

i'll start, favorite team: FC Barcelona. Favorite players: Ronaldinho, Messi, Eto'o, Deco from Barca and Henry, Van Persie, Vd. Vaart, Aissati, Aguero, Higuain, Gago, Rodrigo Palacio, Cesc, Davids, Ibrahimovic, and many more

Barca drawed against Osasuna yesterday, terrible match, hardly any goal attempts, and no ronni, leo, but eto'o finally back! In holland we had a great weekend, with psv-az and ajax-feyenoord, first one was a great and exciting match, with az winning with some luck. ajax-feyenoord bit disappointing cause ajax just waaay to good.

and is anyone into streetsoccer? if so check out www.voetbaltruc.nl for some great videos of players. other soccer sites www.voetbalprimeur.nl, vi.nl

    anyway discuss your soccer favorites!

  4. i listened to joy division, gang of four, pil, etc. the whole postpunk thing back then and i see how put in their era it was very important music, but i myself can't really listen to them.....i've tried to get into it but i just don't like it. then i listen to more mainstream '' crap'' as you call it, like libertines, razorlight (1st album only), rakes, strokes etc. and i love that. just an observation but i think a lot of this is purely based on personal preference (ie you like melodic catchy songs as opposed to experimental music) and not on whether or not it's good/bad music.

  5. edit: meant for double d^So you'd say the Rolling Stones suck, cause they played r&b and they were heavily inspired it....

i don't see how having a sort of similar sound to good music makes something bad music immediately. As long as your not literaly stealing riffs from other bands it's ok. And I think of the bands mentioned the Libertines are not just an indie band or whatever you want to call it, it's in my opinion one of the best bands ever. The drug problems now with Peter are unfortunate and a total bore but the Libertines were genuine great artists. They gave music it's passion back and inspired pretty much every band from Britain after that. They were a unique band that had many sides, they released about 6 albums full of material for free on the internet and delivered two brilliant studio albums. I think Legs 11 from back in 2000 is them at their pinnacle. There live performances were a bit hit & miss maybe at the beginning, but always unpredictable and when on form some of their performances are among the best ever. It's a shame that they had to break up over stupid drugs and problems.

I like the Strokes too, though they are a lot less diverse in comparison with the Libertines. And Bloc Party are great live! Saw them in 2005 in Paradiso, great performance.

Anyway it seems like we're having a generation clash here, people like me in their late teens now and they 20somethings who were into all the stuff back in 1990. Could be completely wrong on this but that's what i thought reading through this thread.

  6. 1The Libertines '' Up the Bracket''

    2The Libertines '' Libertines''

3The Strokes '' Is This It?''

4The Strokes '' Room On Fire''

    5Babyshambles '' Down in Albion''

    6The Rakes '' Capture/Release''

    7Arctic Monkeys '' Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not''

8Coldplay '' A Rush of Blood To The Head''

    9Razorlight '' Up All Night''

10 Yeah Yeah Yeah's '' Show Your Bones''

11 Dirty Pretty Things '' Waterloo To Anywhere'' (srry had to include this one to:P)

tooo hard man a top 10, so many great albums...!

  7. haha i have to disagree with you viv, but beeing a teenager myself it's hardly a suprise our opinions differ here. i know peters fascination is purely the classic works, but still, at school they teach that subject in the most boring way possible or not at all, so i'm just glad that through peter i got interested in those works. i have been reading a lot since and i love it. so for that matter he can definetly inspire young people to get interested in literature.

I must also explain that i'm fond of the '' old peter''. before the whole drugs thing came he was a wonderful guy and those gigs in carl and his apartment were sincere and they just loved playing music and entertaining people. that is still an extraordinary thing and yes unfortunately it became an easy way to get some drug money. that's a sad thing and it rips the later gigs of their greatness.

i still love a lot of his music, addiction or not, but the drugs influence his character a great deal:( but then there are still small moments even in the documentaries that reveal a great guy. the way he's portrayed in bound together, which is written by serious journalists in an objective way (and they experienced peter from early on), is great. the book focuses on the early years of the arcadian dream of carl and peter and that's the period i love them for.

  8. I'm not trying to be a cant here but if you spend more than a week in the UK you will soon find your attitude towards this overplayed, overstyled contemporary 'icon' sullied good and proper. It is very boring indeed. When the day comes that he either dies/get locked up/gets eaten by king tramps I for one shall rejoice on the streets.

i've spent time enough in the uk, going in 10 days again, and i understand that reading about him in the tabloids is annoying. the story has been told a million times and it's just sad that the tabloids can still sell enough papers over this. i would've been better if he'd never met kate moss probably, that's what attracted all the fame.

problem is that you should focus on the music and the music is very good in my opinion.

  9. haha skate style too, baggy jeans and oversized tshirts,

i got rid of everything from that period and now it's all rock 'n roll style:

leather/military jackets, skinny jeans, tshirts, chucks

but i mix it with brands that i got to know from sf, like n(n).

my style has been influenced more by music i got into (rolling stones, ramones, ny dolls, strokes, libertines)
