I'm going next weekend, hope I can pick up some good stuff. Do you know if the Nomad tees were back in stock?

--- Original message by minya on Feb 11, 2006 04:00 PM

Well I'm a small and I think you mentionned being a large or maybe medium in spruce, which means chances are if I fit into something you don't. Get the nom de guerre coat, now!! icon_smile_evil.gif

I don't think they had nomad tees, after asking about the brands and chatting a little bit about what I liked the store guy went into the backstore and got everything that could possibly fit me. Even though I did look around to get a feel of what they carried I might have missed something that wasn't in my size. BTW try some of their "sandinista" gear, it's interesting.

is the nom stuff on sale too?

What supreme do they have left?

--- Original message by SENDkylHISPASSWORD on Feb 11, 2006 03:30 PM

I think some of the nom was on sale but not sure, I went for what I liked and was surprised by the prices after the fact. Anyway since it's a small store and it's last season you can surely get some sort of discount by asking the owner....BTW if anybody's a large they had a really great nom coat (kinda like something a space Mollah might wear) that was still available.

I don't think they had a lot of supreme stuff on display but they might have had some in the backstore, I'm not really feeling the brand so nothing really caught my attention.

  3. Some of his stuff looks quite good, not that many t-shirts makers seem so intent on working on processes in addition to design. This reminds me that I should really order the Bespoke tee.

BTW Hi LA Guy, didn't know you posted in here...and that tiger fleece hoodie rocks, good color too.

  4. Stopped by Nomad in Toronto and got:

-a grey wing & horn sweatshirt with painted "aces" on the elbows and loads of other cool detailing

-a white l-s w & horn "silent weapons, quiet wars" tee

-a black spruce l-s tee with show-through stripes.

    All 60% off icon_smile_big.gif

I gotta say the owner was a really nice guy, it was the only time I had to go visit his store and he waited for me after closing time and left the store open for an additional 1.5hrs. Not many people would do that...

I also wanted an arabic print nom de guerre tee (red with white print) but he was out of smalls., anybody knows where they got some left?

yeah of most of the candid pics I've seen of Jude Law in the past, say, 6 months, almost all the time he's wearing jeans they're Diors. The reason they don't look so skinny is probably because he's got bigger legs and is wearing a larger size (Jude Law isn't huge, but he's not exactly the typical Dior thin model type either).

Yup, I agree. Most of Dior Homme jeans are just slim, not skinny tight. It looks skintight on the runway because their models are anorexic-thin.

and on the subject of slim jeans, the new Levi's washed indigo red tab 501s, have the same cut as the 1947 model. hooray for cheap replicas LVCs!

Which tight jeans are the tightest on you depends on your proportions (how slim is your waist compared to your thighs and calves as all jeans have different proportions you might actually have a tighter fit in a different pair than someone else). For exemple APC cure are skin tight on me (denim leggings) at the lowest size I tried on (27) while some posters mentionned they were just "slim" on them.

Cardigans are difficult to pull off at first, being old-manish and all. Only certains brands make some good ones so I'd watch out before getting one.

BTW I agree on the Ponys, those are some kickass retro shoes...he should definitely get some high-top ponys for cheap (can get 2 pairs, one in white, one in a flashier color like red/orange/etc) they'll go along well with his slim jeans.

  11. Quote:

Well now that I've got the jeans, I need to find shoes that go with it. Minya suggested some Jack Purcells to me, I've found a pair that I really like:

    http://tinyurl.com/abqa2

Any other recomendations? I'd like to get a pair of casual sneakers like those and perhaps something more classy/formal if I want to dress the jeans up alittle. I've got a decent pair of motorcycle style boots that I just picked up from Aldo, so I've got the boot thing covered. What would be a good pair of moderately priced shoes to go with those jeans? By moderate I mean under 150, I don't want to kill my entire budget at once.

One more question: What's the opinion on American Apparel clothing? I love the way their t-shirts fit and was looking at a fleece track jacket on their website that looked pretty nice.

    http://www.americanapparelstore.com/5455.html#

That one in cranberry/white to be exact

I apologize for turning this into a "please for the love of god dress me" thread, but I am taking everyone's advice to heart and thank you all for the contributions!

--- Original message by madgrad on Jan 25, 2006 08:46 AM

American Apparel is pretty well liked here and for good reasons (great basics for slim people) but there has been some criticism as to how they hold up over time. I've got some tees that are few years old and they look fine so I wouldn't worry too much....

I wouldn't splurge too much on shoes since the shape/details you like might vary. Since you've picked slim and tappered jeans just remember to go for slick/slim shoes (converse, vans slip-on, pumas, retro-adidas) unless you're going for some sort of weird effect (AF1 + cure = cool imho but not everyone goes for that and it's definitely not minimalist). As for dressier shoes unless there's an urgent need I'd wait and splurge on something expensive (on sale, ebay) and classic that will last you a long time (C&J, Edward Green or for something less expensive Allen Edmond) that way the shoes will double as your go-to shoes when you have to wear a suit.

Larry Clark is a talented photographer and hit-and-miss director obsessed with underage sex and seeing boys shirtless, he's pretty disturbing sometimes but Kids is worth watching. Aside from his weird voyeuristic tendencies or maybe because of them Clark has been able to successfully capture the aimlessness and somewhat pathetic lack of substance and value system in today’s youth, which mirror his own experience growing up in Tulsa (it’s also the title of one of his photo books) in the 40s. While drugs and skate/street culture are usually part of his work I don’t think we can say the later is a central of even positive part of his work. “Kids†is definitely NOT about LES or street culture as the previous poster might lead you to believe….it’s more about the themes mentioned before and the prevalence of AIDS.

I'm a 29 y.o. software developer and may be going around for some interviews in the near future.

I live in Hong Kong, so think subtropical for most of the year. In winter (mid-December to mid-February), temperatures are generally in the mid 50's or 60's (Fahrenheit) during the day, so chilly but not extremely cold.

I won't ever be wearing a full suit - either to interviews or day to day at work and the interview will probably mark the peak of my dressed-up-ness. I also have to present at conferences occasionally and want to look decent. All of the conferences and some of the interviews will be in colder-climate places, so I also need a jacket/sports coat or something to put on when/if it's a little cooler.

Tell me what to wear (whole outfit) and embed pictures in your posts, if possible, so that I can see what you're talking about. Links to websites with more info would be great too. Note: I've got a bigger body build (5'10" 190lb). Be as precise as possible w/re to brand, color, etc.

I'm thinking of a pair of dark (dark grey or dark blue or even black) dress slacks (possibly with pinstripe?), white sneakers (I mentioned in another thread that I just picked up a pair of the Y-3 New Court Japans), some kind of very light cashmere sweater (colors?).

For cooler weather, I was thinking the same bottom with a light cashmere pull-over hoodie (I hate zippers on tops) and some kind of sports coat or blazer.

    Thanks in advance!

Get a couple of shirts made at a local HK tailor, they're very inexpensive. Ask around for the best ones and get 1 test shirt (I only know about traveling HK tailors so you might find a better local one....WChan is very popular...). When you receive the shirt tell the tailor which changes you want in the next batch and have like 5 made. Repear until you've got a perfect fit and enough shirts (10 should be fine for a start)...

Repeat for dress pants until you have at least 5.

You should have at least two pair of dress shoes and matching belts (brown and black) get something like plaintoes or captoes, they're versatile and not too ornery. Always get a leather sole and use your maximum budget on these.

When you really trust your tailor get a suit made. It should be SB, 2 or 3 buttons and be navy or charcoal as these are more versatile and universally accepted. Get 1-2 ties at a store (100% silk).

    Interviews:

    Wear the suit

A plain white dress shirt or a plain blue one

    a tie

dress shoes matching your belt color (go with black if you're not into dress shoes), no Y-3 to interviews, that's why everyone thinks programmers are slobs :P

  15. Just wanted to thank everyone that post their pics here, you're quite an inspiration even when your style is quite different from mine. As for the "you're so gay yukyukyuk" comments well I guess acting out their tough guy fantasies on the net is now part of growing up for pubescent American kids, they’ll be embarrassed about it too when they’re older.

I have to disagree. If you ever go into the "what are you wearing today" thread you will see that people mix and match looks and desingers and all have unique stylings. The seperated threads, such as the dior homme thread, are created just to discuss the designers and clothes, but I have yet to see anyone there dressed head to toe completely in one designer. Just disregard the fact that people on TFS taste maybe a bit more expensive, I don't find it any different than this bbs, in fact I generally prefer it as there is more variety in terms of discussions and taste.

I dunno man I visited the Fashion Spot a couple times and each time I either 1) laughed really hard or 2) wanted to puke. Either way, it didn't last long. I saw a couple of kids head to toe in Dior, with the Dior emo haircut and sunglasses and the "oh god kill me please, I'm so rich that I'm miserable" look. Pleaaase. Save it.

    --- Original message by wild_whiskey on Dec 7, 2005 12:54 AM

Hehehe, this happens, but like here and everywhere else you also have some pretty knowledgeable people about the topic at hand (+ it's amusing to see women's opinions on fashion, makes for a ddiferent perspective). That being said, I suscribe to the threads I like on TFS and receive them in my email but rarely checks out the whole board.

As for the dior victims, as I already mentionned, I already think pretty much NO runway look is wearable as is....Dior head to toe has always been among the most heinous of the bunch IMHO, because of the reliance on "costume" pieces.

As for the 'I'm so rich and bored, kill me now, look" The existencial ennui of the bourgeois class is only interesting to witness in Italian and french films of the 60s, and that's also from an aesthetic point of view...

the Japanese raw denim jeans were $295.

i might cop a pair of the ones without the border stitching on the black leather tag...those were the Japanese raw denims initially released in s/s 03 and apparently those are the selvedge Dior jeans. There's also one with a zip-up fly and those are the protoype raw denims released even earlier, also selvedge i'd assume.
