"ekshclusivity yu know" hehe . I think I still have the "ape sounds" cd somewhere, it's actually how I first heard about Nigo....Anybody who listens to that can't say the hiphop connection wasn't there from the start.Quote:http://zubeteru1.free.fr/Bape%20Sounds%20Allsta!!!%20High%20%20By%20Zujin%20From%20JL2S.WMV

Also check out Reborn on 231 Saint-Paul West #100 if you're into surface2air, Acne Spoonfed.

The places I mentionned a good for jeans imho....depends on which brands. Probably somewhere like duo/U&I/cours mont-royal. Or Holt for designer denim.
Stoopid is a store in St-Denis (4321) selling royal elastics and some clubber/raver/hipster stuff. Not a great place to shop I'm affraid. If you like that sort of thing you should go to the aritmetiks stores (3 locations= cours Mont-royal, st-laurent (3688) and St-denis (2011). If you're into clothing made out of recycled dollar store sweaters featuring artic wolves go to preloved (4832 St-Laurent) and you'll enjoy the artsy kitsch products.

I recently bought a 501 pair from that line and quite like em but they're definitely not from purists, what's your opinion on ths brand/quality/price/etc.

Having seen the recent Perplex&Lola runway show I can say PXL knows how to throw a party while showing his creations in a definitely playful way.

I wear a watch....lately I've been sporadically sporting additional jewelry :
A surface2 air knife pendant on a silver chain like this one:
http://www.breakbeatscience.com/43904.html
A surface2 air 2 finger ring (basically two thin silver rings forming one eight-shaped mini knuckle duster)
I would say a watch is all you need for 90% of occasions...

I thought about it some more and want to get some Levis 501 in a used state. I don't know much about these so where should I look for info and what should I watch out for/look for.

Puma Roma are probably my favorite PUma designs. I do like some of the Miharas too but haven't gotten around to buying them.

I also like the cut of JP Da'mage (I think all JPD jeans have the same cut) but that's not what I'm looking for now.

I'm interested by I have no idea how to PM you....the interface for that doesn't seem to be very intuitiveQuote:Levi's one is good, costs around $60, great photos but a bit hard to follow. Look out for a new one out in the fall, lots of rare jeans, plus lost of previously photos of cowboys, Native Americans, movie stars, etc etc, price will be less than £8 sterling, hopefully $15 or less. It's called Denim. Publisher is Aurum/ Cooper Square. Designed by the bloke who did the Blue Note Album Art book. PM me if you want details.

I'm looking for a fancy coffee table book about denim, you know lots of pretty pictures and some interesting facts. I'm sure some denim freaks here already have a couple so please share.

I have already have dry denim jeans, but you can't break three pairs at the same time...especially when you can't wear them most work days.Quote:Best "used" look jeans i have ever had was an old pair of dark Lee (I think they were called Slouch) Jeans. Nice fit, straight leg. Of course Lee are the kings of slim fit.
They were quit dark with some fading on the thighs but very natural looking. Nevertheless, what I am getting at (the process gets slower in my old age) is that I am yet to see a pair of "distressed" jeans look and feel as good as this pair of Lees did after i wore them for a year. Wear them hard and don't wash them too often. The only way to get a real used look.
The only other pair I have seen look similar is a pair of selvedge Nudies which the guy wearing them had only washed after 6 months of wearing ( i know - that sounds a little long) but they looked perfect.
There has been way too much distressing in jeans lately and it just looks wack and over the top. Go selvedge and wear hard!

Les Cours Mont-Royal (1455 Peel): you can find many small boutiques selling designer denim and assorted streetwear + a Harry Rosen for high quality suits/shoes/shirts/ties
Simons (977 Sainte-Catherine West): big department store, carries a lot of streetwear brand like Stussy, Freshjive, Adidas or even Nudies and the top floor had small sections for various high-end designers (Helmut Lang, JLindeberg, Maharishi, Jil Sander, JPaul Gaultier, etc)
Holt Renfrew (1300 Sherbrooke West): Prada, Dolce&Gabbana, Etro, Paul Smith, Armani, etc.
U&I (3650 St Laurent): Lots of great brands like APC, Engineered Garment, Cloak, PDC, Levis, JLindeberg, Acne Action Jeans, Comme des Garçons...
Duo (30, Prince-Arthur West): For the Eurotrash in you : Dsquared, Nudies, Chip&Pepper, True Religion, etc.
Godasse (4340 Saint-Denis): sneakers
Goodfoot (3830 Saint-Laurent): sneakers
Turf Gallery (410 St-Pierre): rare t-shirts and sneakers
Thrift shops, local designers and lots of interesting shops can be found around the St-Denis and Mont-Royal axis
Check out St-Laurent for trendy boutiques similar to Fidel
Now I'm sure I could recommend more shops but I have no idea what you're looking for exactly so that's it for now...

I'm thinking of buying a new pair of jeans, and want to go for a more "used" look. I'm looking for recommendations/pictures and possibly places to purchase online. Quite frankly I haven't really decided on the exact style I want.
Here's some info on what I want:
-I normally wear a size 30 or sometimes 29 and I'm about 5'8" so ideally the inseam would be something like 30", keep my size in mind when you suggest jeans which might have inappropriately placed fading (i.e. behind the knee) or a cut made for taller guys…
-I’m mostly into straight legs although I might consider something else if I really love how it looks…
-I’m not into destroyed jeans (no fake holes for me)
-I like slim fits
-I was really impressed by a picture of a distressed Japanese Levi I saw on this site but can’t seem to find it again.
-It doesn’t have to be selvedge as long as it’s quality denim

Adidas superstar (I'm partial to superstar II in white/navy, an absolute classic)

Oldboy is Korean and was directed by Park-Chan-Wook (I recommend seeing his other two features: Joint Security Area (JSA) and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance).Quote:I haven't seen Layer Cake yet but I reallly want to.
I could have sworn Ichi the Killer and Oldboy are connected? Same director or producer or something?
--- Original message by wild_whiskey on Jun 2, 2005 09:29 AM
Ichi the Killer is Japanese and was directed by the ultra prolific (directed more than 60 films according to IMDB and they're missing quite a lot direct to video releases) Takashi Miike (I recommend seeing Graveyard of Honor -Nice remake of the Fukasaku classic, Dear or Alive, Audition, Happiness of the Katakuris and Visitor Q)
They're different people from vastly different movie industries, and Oldboy and Ichi are only alike on a totaly superficial level.
If you want more information about any of these movies ask freely....

Identical to NS or Cure/tight. DH jeans are usually a lot more tappered than NS if I'm not mistaken so they'd be perceived as similar to tight/Cure APC jeansQuote:Dior does selvage. Not only black (the one mentioned here is black?).
Seems very nice, it is Japanese, the cut almost identical to APC, the denim a little different.

I think you should ask yourself some basic questions about the jeans you want to help the forum "experts" recommend a pair.
For exemple:
dry denim or wash? (and how much of a wash/distressing?)
low waisted, high waisted or mid?
Is getting selvedge or ringspun or whatever important for you (probably not but still...)?
classic 5 pocket look or something else?
How do you want the back pocket stitching to look?
You want a relaxed cut but how relaxed?
Price is always an issue, you just have to set a range where it isn't (could be as high as $1000 or even $80000 (ultra rare vintage levis), your call but still...)
I'm sure if you ask more questions you'll get tons of suggestions and some nice links to picture of great jeans.

Do you wear them: yes/no, how big? why?
I'm especially looking for the historical info some highly knowledgeable members can provide (why/where did they start?, how big were the rockabilly cuffs?, what is the current trend, etc)

I purchased it at a local store (in Montreal) and have no idea where to get it online. I'll try to post pictures this week.Quote:sounds like a beautiful jacket. i'm sure there are interests for that jacket here. so if you can post and picture and let us know where it can be purchased, that'd be appreciated.

BAPE is definitely mainstream

BTW I think it's important to put things in perspective:
1) The Japanese language doesn't even have a word for sellout
2) Critical success in any field is seen as irrelevant, partly because an independent reviewing system DOESN'T EXIST in Japan for fields like fashion, music, movies, etc.
3) Therefore success=sales, what sells the most is the better product
4)So while a lot of posters may be disappointed that Nigo has "sellout" to the mainstream, for Japanese people, including hipsters, his success is probably a source of pride and an acknowledgement that the products he puts out are good which might lead to a revitalization of the brand in Japan.
In other words Japanese people have an almost inexistent conterculture/underground movement and success can only be found in the mainstream, for exemple the common modus operandi is for people to pick up looks in mags and replicate them, and designers seek success in that area. Nigo never sold out or was always a sellout depending on what your take on it is...
