TCB

Yes, definitely size down for the indigo from your black 50s size. I got 33 in indigo and 34 in black and that turned out right.

Yes exactly - that was my point.

TCBs, and higher rise jeans in general - cos getting jeans to stick on my hips is no problem (!) (sometimes they just look better with a belt though), but getting 13" rise jeans to stay in the right place is another matter entirely...

Actual waist measurements are a complicated business in themselves I think. My actual waist measurement at the narrowest point (which is your official 'waist' measurement I believe) is 34". That's where my TCB 40s ought to sit. But my waist an inch and a half lower down is 35" - that's where my IH 634s ought to sit.
That's why I find it useful to know what others are doing who are wearing the same jeans as me - you can bypass that kind of complication. Knowing that someone is consistently a size 34 in a brand that you own (assuming that brand's sizing is reasonably consistent) is more useful than knowing their (supposed) waist measurement. If it works for them it'll probably work for me, even if the way everything fits together is slightly different on them than on me.
That's not exactly to repudiate anything that you've suggested @Duke Mantee, just to explain how I find that 'rules of thumb' can actually be more reliable than measurements sometimes (not more reliable than measuring the actual pieces, granted).
Thanks for your help. (I wasn't aware of the sizing convention for belts.)

Aw man, I was so set on 34...

That's quite helpful actually, cos most of my jeans are 34 as well, and I've also lost weight recently (so they're falling off me a bit). If you're on the tightest setting with a 36 I probably should get the 34.

Thanks!
That makes it a bit mysterious to me why you would tell someone with a 34" waist to get size 36 - but as you say, that way you can't really go wrong, so it's a safer bet.
I'll go for 34.

Based on the measurements of the belt I have, I'd like the middle hole to be at 34". But I can't be confident from the information I've seen whether this would indicate getting a 34 or a 36.

Thanks @Duke Mantee. The reason I asked in relation to jean size was that I didn't have any measurements for the belt that I could be confident about. Hinoya have some here - https://hinoya.shop/en/products/sc02320 - but not the measurement you describe. Self Edge give that measurement - https://www.selfedge.com/sugar-cane?product_id=1372 - but to me it doesn't look consistent with their recommendation to size up (take 36 belt if you're 34 waist), which I've seen in a couple of other places as well.

Can anyone tell me please: if I'm a 34 in TCB jeans what size should I take in the Sugar Cane Garrison belt?

Black 50s are smaller in the waist than indigo. I'm a 33 in the indigo, 34 in the black.
IMO if you're a 34 in Iron Heart, you'll be a 34 or 33 in TCB 50s. Definitely not a 36, no way.

#16 coming back into the game...
Got mine near the end of October, after a size swap, so no special pocket bags or competition patch for me. Have been wearing them pretty consistently since, with a week off here and there. Took a while to get used to the incredibly high rise, but get used to them I did, and now I love the fit. First pic is April, after one wash. The rest are a couple of days ago, after another wash, and a crotch and hem repair.

Um, label says £70....

I don't mind the rise in terms of looks. It's fine if you don't tuck things in, which I don't most of the time. But now that the waist has got a little loose, when they slip down lots of material gets bunched up around the crotch, which is annoying. And for some reason I can't get a belt to keep jeans that high up on my waist.

That's why just measuring your waist and getting the corresponding size doesn't always work.

Thanks @julian-wolf
Think I'd need to eke out another half-inch of stretch at least to make them work...

The 50s jacket thing is great news, since the current one is both too narrow for my chest and too long for my taste.

Yeah those look really good @julian-wolf
Would you mind measuring the front rise on the 34? That's probably the size for me too I think, but whether the waist will fit depends on the rise.

#16 reporting back in...
I exchanged the 33 raw contest versions for a new batch 34OW. Soooooo much better. Waist was extremely tight at first (measured at 32") but eased up within a few hours to a comfortable snug fit. The rise is huge, but these fit way better than other jeans I have with high rises (LVC '44 and Edwin Nashville) because they're not too loose through the rest of the top block. Here's a couple of poor quality fit pics, with and without the jacket. Maybe an 18-month contest will encourage me to learn to use a smartphone camera properly. But I've had five years to do that before now, so maybe not.

That latest IH effort rather belies their explicit claim that they don't follow fashion trends.
