Anyone have much experience with Stevenson sanforized denim? I'm thinking about the Calistoga jean and was curious on overall stretch and feel.

    Curious about this too!

I've had a look at the the 320 Jacksons in-store before and the fabric is beautiful - really dark and inky in color - but I wasn't brave enough given that I really have no sense of what Stevenson's sanforized denim ages like...

@itsbenhere Great minds think alike (or fools seldom differ). Which beaten-up RJBs are you thinking of from Self Edge?

Wanted to provide an update on how the new RJB denim is fading, somewhere around 7-8 months in with roughly 6 washes. Really loving this denim's texture and color variation as well as the somewhat grey, dingy-looking fades (relative to some denims that seem to fade to baby blues and pure white). One funny thing about the fabric - it feels heavier than 14 oz. Feels noticeably heavier when I pull these on versus the OA02s that I'm rotating them with, though those are supposedly 13.5 oz.

The first two pictures were a bit overexposed, the last photo more accurately represents the color.

Wow these look excellent - didn't expect this denim to fade to such a rich, silvery blue (I guess its not so far off from what other FH/RJB denim fades to, but the raw fabric doesn't look like it would end up here whenever I've seen it in person)

  3. Scored a barely worn pair of 103BSPs on Grailed for $140 shipped. I've always preferred RJB's 14oz Zimbabwe denim to the newer LHT stuff but never had the money to get a pair of these when SE still had them. Love how dark and hairy this denim is, and the fit is spot on too. It looks like the prior owner washed these once then barely wore them (literally no fading when I received them). Not sure if they have been hemmed (or if size 29 just runs a bit shorter in the inseam) but the length is perfect too.

Why. Too low of rise?   Too narrow?

I actually quite like the fit in the top/thighs, but from the knee down they're just a little too roomy for me. I have also pair of the 511NBKs and those fit perfectly though - would definitely want to try that fit in an indigo dyed pair of samurais at some point.

    These are gorgeous!!

Posts like these always make me want to give my 710s another shot, but I know I'll get fed up with the fit again in a day or two :(

  6. Nice sunny shot of my 727s today. 8 months of wear (5-6 days/week since I got them in August) with 3 hot soaks and somewhere north of 7 washes at this point. Crazy how quickly this denim fades.

  7. Hardly a charming photo, but my girlfriend kindly arranged my jeans into this nice little leaning tower yesterday. From top to bottom: Roy Big Bro 2, Warehouse 900, Samurai S511NBK, Flat Head 2001, Samurai S710XX, Strike Gold 1109, Oni x Naked & Famous Weird Guy, APC Petit Standard. All that's missing are my Stevenson's, which are currently with me as I continue to procrastinate on my schoolwork...

Hell yeah! Love the creamy color of the lume. This era of Mulgauss is definitely my favorite - I know some prefer the 50s ones with the lightning seconds hand but these just looks so sleek for the time period they were made (even among Rolexes).

send your bracelet to michael young from classic watch repair in HK http://www.classicwatchrepair.com/

it will come back as a new and have no stretch at all

I had thought about going that route (and may still at some point), but I managed such a good deal on this later-era jubilee that I just jumped on it haha

  10. Just replaced the jubilee bracelet on my DJ. I have the original one still but it's one of those wretched folded link ones and has gotten pretty delicate over its lifetime. I'd rather keep the original somewhere safe and use one that, while not period correct, will at least not fall apart on me at a moment's notice. Also writing this post made me realize that this watch actually turns 50 this year (made in 1968) - the dial still looks wonderful for half a century on it.

  11. Goofy commute shot of my 50s jacket layered under my Schott. Not much fading to speak of over the last year, but I kinda like that it's retained it's rich dark blue. This is probably my favorite repro fabric aside from the Warehouse banner denim. EDIT: added another shot that does this rich blue more justice.

those look so awesome. The denim on the big bro 1's were a little too flimsy

Thanks! Yeah I'm also glad to own such a strong example of a Cone Mills denim (now that they're no longer a going concern).

Here are two more pics that are a bit closer to what the color looks like in person:

As promised here are my Big Bro 2s - unfortunately it was already dark when I got home so apologies for the crappy interior lighting. I can take some better shots in natural light tomorrow since these really shine in the sun. Got these roughly 3 years ago, probably 1.5 or so years of actual wear (maybe less?) and roughly 10 or so washes. Most stunningly well-constructed jeans I've ever owned, and I love all the details ( weird, lined back pockets, fly buttons, and ridiculously tight stitching). Thankfully I didn't have to hem them and could preserve Roy's gorgeous chain stitch on the cuffs. I'll snap some shots in daylight tomorrow morning.

Cheers @STINGER93. The funny thing is I remember them being quite flat with a greyish tint when I first got them. I've worn them in rotation with various others over the years - so not that much wear overall really - and the last couple of years they have really developed much more blueness and quite subtle contrasts. Not sure if the pic below (from a few months ago) shows up the colour more accurately but I'll throw it out there anyway.

And yeah the Buck-tites - I remember hesitating on the trigger and then they were sold out!! Would be interested to see how your black seed have developed over time whenever you get a chance.

    IMG-20171225-WA0010-1.jpg

Yeah sure! I'll post em when I get home from class. Black seed is definitely slower to fade and with little contrast but I don't mind cause it totally suits their style IMO.

  15. @MJF9 those look awesome. The 14.5oz Cone/Roy denim is so cool - I have a pair of Big Bro 2s in the Black Seed, which I do quite like, but there seems to be such a richness to the blue in your pair.

I always regret not grabbing a pair of the Buck-Tites when they came out in that fabric...

Whoa what are these? Actual collab between Lee's and Warehouse? I really like that shade of blue

From what I understand, loose threads are inevitable with The Flat Head’s button whole construction technique, called “Atu Mesu”

    @i_denim

Yeah its cause Flat Head use one of those Reece buttonhole machines, which sews the keyhole pattern first before punching a slit in the center, leaving some excess denim between the hole and the stitching (vs. cutting the hole then stitching around the edge, capturing all the denim threads). The excess fabric is supposed to make the buttonholes more sturdy, since it sits around the edge of the stitching and reinforces it. Either way, its nothing to worry about and par for the course on FH jeans.

  18. Went to SENY today, ostensibly to help a friend pick out a new pair of jeans, and ended up with this Mister Freedom shirt for myself. The fabric is a nice lightweight chambray and the shirt has this excellent bright green stitching hidden throughout (I'm always a sucker for the weirder details in MF stuff)
