  1. Yeah, it’s true that the math doesn’t work out as well in smaller things. I treated myself to something somewhat large (& on-topic) today, and I think I saved right around the cost of shipping when all was said and done—plus the free benefit of supporting the shop that let my try it on and all that, of course

No Japanese retailer will ship RMC overseas, correct? Barnstormer, Celluloid, etc.

If it’s something that they currently have in stock, the sale going on right now at S&S pushes prices on most things down to (or below) JDM—really rare opportunity, given that they seem to have just gotten a big shipment in pretty recently

  3. I’ve never been anywhere in Europe before

I’m talking at a conference in Munich, next month, and I’ve given myself a couple of weeks afterwards to explore around the area. No real concrete plans, yet—& I’m sort of hoping to keep it that way—but I think it would be nice to take a train down to Italy for at least a few days, too

Any recommendations for things to do in the area, around this time of year? I’m used to road tripping around the US, so “in the area” can be interpreted pretty loosely—really anything within a half day or a day, by train, is probably fair game

Also: Good hostels to stay at? Good meat / cheese / baked goods?

3 weeks since I posted anything here … shambles :laugh2:

Here’s one for my pal @julian-wolf - he decided what I do is too easy, so wanted me to decorate a slimmer belt. We eventually settled on a half-Brooklyn type thing.

1 1/4” 9-11oz (about 4mm thickness) Wickett & Craig Harness in Buck brown with brass hardware and real Jasper gemstones

Figured you’d be getting bored of it any time now without a bit of a challenge thrown your way…

Looks just as pretty as I’d hoped & expected—can’t wait to start giving it a good beating

  5. Yeah I have a pair of Fracap boots. They're pretty disappointing. The construction seems very clean, but the materials haven't held up well at all. I doubt I wore them for more than a couple dozen days, total, and the leather upper and rubber outsole are both cracking significantly. They also started off pretty stiff, and didn't really break in as much as I'd hoped (or at least they hadn't yet). I think they're decidedly more on the fashion end of things than the functionality end of things, whether or not that's clear from how the company presents itself.

They seem to go on discount for ~$200 pretty regularly, which is maybe an okay deal if they fit a niche you're looking to fill…but I definitely wouldn't recommend paying MSRP for them like I did.

  6. What are the issues you’re meaning to highlight? I don’t see anything significantly weird in any of those photos

I agree that modern LVC is overpriced and probably a poor value proposition even at a discount, but construction-wise that looks the same as what I’d expect from the MiJ or MiUSA versions

  7. @Hopethisoneisnttaken Thanks. They’re my usual W34, and fit pretty true in the waist. The cut through the legs is straight, all the way from the thighs down. I actually have another pair, still rigid, that I’ve been a bit too much in love with to shrink down and start wearing—the cut, styling, details on these are all just about perfect for me—so when these showed up for a good deal, lightly worn with chopped off hems, it was an easy choice grabbing them to beat up a bit.

I’m still pretty new to climbing, but so far this style of problem has often been most interesting to me (if also the most difficult). I think a lot of what gives indoor walls good staying power is a nice variety of transitions, rather than just having one section of slab, one section of vert, one section of overhang, one section of cave, …. This new gym just opened up (the fourth or fifth within a few miles, so it’s not like we don’t have a good variety of options), and their wall design and setting both feel like the best I’ve seen in this regard. Really excited to see where they take it.

  8. Do you roll them dry each time you wash them, or something? Really interesting how the backs of the legs have faded from being pressed up against the left outseam & the right inseam (& vise versa on the front)—I have an indigo-dyed T-shirt with a similar effect at the back of the collar, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen this on jeans before

  9. Picked up the new Type 452 Bridge Pocket Square Tail Shirt, and I think it’s my favorite so far—could easily see wearing this every week year round

It’s cut a little bigger than usual, especially in the arms (or maybe the Cotton Casement just shrank much less than other fabrics), which works great for me: just the right middle-ground to be able to easily wear with or without a sweater / sweatshirt underneath. It’s also probably the shortest shirt I’ve seen from Tender, in the body, which I think makes it a lot more versatile, at least in the context of my personal style

  10. I like the Levi’s arcs, less because they copy Levi’s than because they’re so recognizable that they blend in. Blank pockets seem to have a little more mystique. No one’s going to think I’m wearing fancy jeans if they recognize them as Levi’s.
