  1. Just got my 1108 back from being hemmed at Self Edge in LA, I think this is gonna be my new favorite pair of jeans.  It's unfortunate that Full Count will be making changes in details and cuts cause these are amazing, glad I snagged a pair a very good price.

It's been mentioned a few times. But all current season LVC is white oak cone denim.

Next season will be the end of the white oak mills and they are only doing a 47 and 54 in 501s.

All 66s this season are white oak, so no need to freak out.

Any idea why that may be? Are 47 and 54 the most sold models?

Look for a white tag/label sewn to inside of the waist band that has "White Oak" on it. There are products, not just Levi's, made with Cone denim, but not from the White Oak mill, and the label will not mention White Oak.

I'm sorry, I don't really understand what you mean.  I'm not seeing a White Oak label.

  4. I just spoke to someone at Levi's via their chat feature regarding the source of the denim, he said it was Cone Mills denim but not Made in the US, he seemed a little unsure but if that's the case it sounds like they may have sold out of all US made Cone?  If anyone who's made a recent purchase can chime in?

  5. Just received my pair of 1108 from Corlection, sized down one as recommended.  I love how they feel and I'm very much looking forward to wearing these, however I'm a little bit worried about how much they're shrink through the legs which currently fit nicely.

Corlection in Australia has a size 27 left and it's on sale. Check their website. I think you get free shipping worldwide even at the sale price.

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I just bought the last 29, had to pull the trigger at that price! Sized down one per multiple recommendations.

You know, I've seen Kiya lament how music used to inform how you'd dress (hence the rockabilly/vintage connection), but I've never really known what to do with this. I mostly listen to stuff that follows under the umbrella of indie rock. I don't think there's really any particular uniform for that, compared to punk, rockabilly, heavy metal, etc. Perhaps I should just dictate one.

Other than rockabilly, I'd say I listen to all of the above, I sometimes feel out of place at these shows cause I'm not really wearing "the uniform," although you do see your fair share of selvedge jeans at indie rock and hardcore/punk shows these days, at least in California.

The availability of a wide variety of hemmed inseams is indeed something that came about in fairly recent history in the clothing industry. I'm not sure exactly when; maybe mid '50's to early '60's (someone here will know when). Jeans, just like dress pants, used to come in just one, or maybe a handful, of lengths. The thought was that you'd have the retailer or a tailor hem them for you after you bought them. Not everyone did this, hence the relatively common use of healthily tall cuffs. The trend of modern jeans companies doing roughly the same is actually a nod to the past, not something new. Even some lower-end jeans companies still do this on women's jeans. For instance, Lee women's jeans come in a variety of waists, but only a few lengths: S, M, L...and sometimes P (petite) and SP (super petite).

Before I knew much of anything at all about denim, I worked at UNIQLO and that was actually the first place I saw that did only one or two different lengths. They also offered a free hemming service if the jeans/pants were over a certain price, unfortunately this wasn't too popular as a large percentage of shoppers were tourists who wouldn't be able to come pick their jeans back up at a later date, just an interesting note on that.

It would be nice to not have to hem my jeans all the time, but my cuffs would be unreasonably tall seeing as I'm only 5'5" (1.67m).

  9. Maybe this question is better suited for the "general questions" thread, but with regards to not wasting material on a longer leg, I've always wondered why it's so common for many of the companies we love to only offer one or two different lengths. Being a shorter guy, I always have to get my jeans hemmed, was this common practice in the earlier days of denim? Regardless of where I purchased them, I always take my jeans to Self Edge cause they do a great job and I'm in the area regularly, just something I'm curious about.

  10. I just received the pair that I ordered and I noticed something interesting, the tag says 1954 at the top, but in the description it says "These 1947 501z Jeans have a zip fly and a narrow, tapered leg."

Has anyone noticed that before? Also, the patch is different than what I've seen on other pairs of 1954s.

LVC 1954 ZXX maybe similar. Another good Japanese repro would be the Warehouse 1105

I really like the 1954! My pair of 1967 were sanforized so I didn't need to account for much shrinkage, but I know these will shrink, how good are they about stretching back in the waist?  Should I size up?

  12. I've been wearing my pair of 1967 505's almost exclusively lately, I know that's not a very popular fit on here and the denim is relatively standard, but I just really love how they fit.  Are there any pairs of 501's that fit the same/similar? Also looking into Japanese repros if anyone has some suggestions, been looking into FC 1108 and SDA 103.
