  1. The button hole shrinkage was a pain for me too, I think I got some bruises on my thumbs the first few days. They'll eventually stretch out and not be a problem. Hip flare should calm down with more wear as well.

I just took someone's suggestion from something I had read on here in the past about stretching them with a pen or something, that really helped.  Hot soaking them once more before getting them hemmed at Self Edge LA, I'll post fit pictures once all of that is done with.

  2. After purchasing the incorrect size (31) in a pair of 710s and then re-ordering, going down a size to a 30, I finally have my first pair of Samurais.  Denim was stiffer than I imagined and turning them inside out to hot soak them was incredibly difficult, even more so when they were wet.  Buttoning them up was also very difficult, not because they were that tight, button holes just weren't giving much.  I know it sounds like I'm complaining, but I'm loving these a lot except for a minor hip flare that I'm hoping will go away after a second hot soak.

Also, I still have the pair in a size 31 for sale if anyone's interested.  Haven't been worn, only hot soaked once.

  3. I have a pair of Samurai s710xx 19oz size 31 for sale that have been hot soaked once and worn only to try on. Unfortunately they're a little too big for me. They have not been hemmed or altered in any way. I can provide more pictures or measurements if necessary. These retail for $325 at Blue In Green, I'm asking for $225 shipped in the US. Message if you're outside of the US and interested or if you have any questions. Offers accepted.

  4. Thank you! My recipe is pretty the same on all pairs. Two initial soaks or a machine wash to get the shrinkage out. Another soak after a few days or weeks if I feel they feel too long or not fully shrunken. Then a handwash every 4-6 weeks or a gentle machine wash within the same timeframe if they need it (sweat, dirt). I try to stick with one pair at a time.

Wow, that's pretty frequent relative to the types of fades you're getting.  You must wear them pretty hard, it seems to be working really well for you though.  I'd love to see more pictures as they progress!

  5. More OG evo. They have about 6 months wear in them. I found them fading slower than the 19 and 21 oz.

Are these the 711 or a fit that use the same denim as the 711 fit do? I'm only guessing from the yellow arcs. These look amazing and are probably my favorite pair I've seen, this is the kind of contrast fading I love.  I need your wash/wear recipe.  ;)

  6. Thanks! Must've missed that when you first posted it before.  I'm leaning towards the 711vx in a size 31 waist, I really like the denim from the pictures you posted and as much as I like the 710 danisfake posted, I think the wider thigh/knee measurements on a pair with the desired waist measurements would just be looser than I'd like.  I emailed Denimio cause they're out of size 31 but they said they'll be restocking it in September which is when I planned on buying them anyway.  Now I'm just worried about the stitching problems there've been lately.

  7. @Seal Club Sandwich Denim looks great! Did you size up on these to get a looser fit through the leg? I always thought the 711 fit was more tapered, through the thigh at least. How hot/long did you hot soak for, shrinkage also seems minimal.  Did you by chance get pre and post soak measurements?

  8. While I do love deeper contrast fades, those 711s look great! Anyone know if different washing methods yield more contrast or is that just how that particular denim fades?  Still heavily leaning towards getting a pair of 711s.

Hope you don't mind pictures from my MacBook camera. I got them chain-stitched at Self Edge LA to a few inches longer than required for the length of my legs cause I like to cuff my jeans a little wider than normal. I wear them pretty gently too since I work a desk job, but again, the break in was pretty painless and they've become very comfortable over a short period of time.

  10. So about a month ago I went ahead and purchased a pair of 3sixteen ST-120x as my first pair of raw/selvedge jeans.  I got a size 30 as I was advised to get a snug fit in the waist because they stretch up to about an inch.  Initially I was worried that they were too tight around the waist but after two weeks of wear, they've not only stretched in the waist but also become incredibly comfortable through the legs.  I have skinny legs so they're not too slim/tapered on me but I absolutely love the fit and the feel of the jeans in general.

I'm sure I don't have to tell most of you, but I'm incredibly satisfied with my purchase.  If there's anyone out there on the fence about this pair or any other pairs of 3sixteens, I'd suggest you go for it.

Also, the fade pictures I've seen for 120x series are definitely among my favorite that I've seen for any brand and I can't wait until mine start to look like some of yours.

I've been looking into getting another pair of jeans and as much as I love these, I'd also like to explore other brands of (preferably) Japanese denim.  At the moment I'm favoring The Flat Head's 3002 and Samurai's 711 cuts, but I'd like to know what other brands have jeans that fit similar to 3sixteen's Slim Tapered cut.

  11. I don't remember if it was this thread or a different one, maybe a few pages back, but I recall someone mentioning a jean stretcher (for the waist).  Anybody used one before? Haven't found any reviews of use on premium/heavier denim.

Sorry in advance if this wasn't the most appropriate thread for this post.

  12. Anybody on here have any experience with either JB 0412 or JB 0412 ML? I see them on places like denimio for a very low price, considering they're 16.5 oz but I'm not sure what to expect so I've never just pulled the trigger and bought a pair.

  13. To the person who said "Welcome to the world of Japanese Denim Decision Making Problems!," I totally feel you on that, it's hard enough when jeans are sanforized, I still don't know what to expect from unsanforized jeans.  I don't worry too much about the shrinkage on the inseam as I'm very short and don't mind paying to get them chain-stitched, but waist and thighs are bigger concerns.

It would be nice to at least have a place to try these jeans on, but unfortunately there are no Samurai retailers in Los Angeles (that I know of).  I was also looking into a pair of The Flat Head 3002, and while Self Edge carries Flat Head, online I don't see that particular fit.  All of you have been very helpful, I'm definitely leaning towards the 711, still undecided between the 30 and 31 though but I've got some time to decide as the size 31 won't be restocked by Denimio until September and I'd like to give my 3sixteen pair some substantial wear.

By the way, I re-measured my ST-120x jeans the Rivet & Hide way and came up with about 10.75", I'm assuming there has been little/no stretch from when I bought them since they aren't very tight on my thighs.

Balto, would you mind posting pictures? I'd love to see the fit/details.

  14. I'll take that into consideration! I do have a slight belly as the size 30 ST-120x fit snug in the waist but not tight at all in the leg, (almost too loose in the knee area) definitely looser than all of the other fit pictures I've seen. That's what does worry me about the 710xx though, that the leg/thigh is even less slim and it'll end up looking more like a straight jean.

Maybe it's due to longer wear and stretching, but the thigh measurement on my ST-120x are almost and inch less than yours, even though they're one size up.

  15. I wear sz 30 in my 3sixteen pair and was looking at also get a 30 in the Samurai pair.  31.5in waist (BiG measurement) is exactly where I'm at, and multiple people have said they will stretch back to this size.  Now I'm thinking about possibly sizing up to a 31 (32in waist) to account for the measuring discrepancy I'm hearing about.  I'm hoping that won't make the thigh too wide though, cause again, I have skinny legs.

Does anyone know how much they shrink in the thigh? I'll most likely be getting these from Denimio cause I know BiG doesn't "technically" sell the ones with the red tab/arcs, but I'll be waiting until the end of the Summer since I live in Southern California and it's too hot to survive in heavy denim, at least in its break-in period.

  16. Thanks! That's a big help, I'll definitely look those up! The fact that they stretch back to raw measurements in the waist is a big plus. Anyone know from experience which website has the most accurate measurement on these and other pairs of Samurais? I know that depends on the method of measuring, but I've seen various numbers given using supposedly the same/similar methods.

  17. I joined because I had a few questions that I couldn't find the answers to and I'm hoping some of you will be able to help me out with.

I just bought my first pair of raw selvedge jeans (3sixteen ST-120x) about a month ago after much deliberation about what my first pair should be.  I'm very happy with my purchase and I'm now looking into getting something from a Japanese brand.  I've heard nothing (aside from the guy who recently had his selvedge coming undone) but good things about Samurais and the s710xx fit specifically.  I'm looking for something with a slim tapered leg, similar to the pair I have, and also came across the s711vx.  I do have skinny legs so I'm leaning more towards the 711.

My question(s) is, how does the actual denim differ between the two? I know the 711 is 17oz and the 710 is 19oz, but is that the only difference? I've seen plenty of pictures of how the 710s fade, but none of the 711, do they fade as nicely and as contrasting? I also looked into the s003jp, but I want something heavier and actually love the red tabs/arcs on the 710/711.

One last question about Samurais that may have already been answered. From your experience, does the waist/top block usually stretch back to pre-soak measurements after wearing, and how much shrinkage do you usually see in the thigh?
