  1. My 800's came from BiG, so they're presumably 14.0 oz. Memphis cotton.  They could be older stock, as setterman suggests, with the newer one (from Japan) at 14.5 oz.   Pretty minor difference in weight.  Would be interesting (to me and three other people in the world) to see the two side-by-side ;-)

  2. Glad you're enjoying the 1001 setterman.

Agree on the 800 -- probably my favorite cut and best fitting pair of jeans.  My understanding is that the 800 uses the 14 oz. 1000XX denim.  Is this heavier than the denim on the 1001?

  3. I recently received, and just soaked, a pair of S500-OG in size 35.  Very happy with them though they're pretty different than the S710-OG, not only in fit (of course) but also color.  I'll try to get some pics up at some point but the 16 oz. 710-OG is darker and bluer.  The S500-OG 16 oz. denim looks a bit like the S510 15 oz. Texas cotton -- not exactly the same, but similar.

  4. ^ Couldn't agree more Flo.  It's an odd thing because my 800s feel more like throwback Levi's than any pair I own.  They're no frills jeans, no special details, just a great fit with good, comfortable denim.  I'm an old dude, so there's this sense of deja vu I get when putting them on.  In truth, they fit (me) better than that old pair of 501s.

  5. Quick question for those familiar with the Samurai 710 and 500 fits.

I'm a size 35 in the 710 (XX and OG) and am interested in adding a pair of 16 oz. S500-OG.  Would recommend the same size (35) for the S500-OG or should I size up to 36 (I've heard the 500-OG can be slightly trim fitting through the waist and top block).

    Thanks.

  6. Here's the post warm wash, line dry.

    Measured BiG style, size 35:

    Waist: 17.5 in.

    Front rise: 12 in.

    Back rise: 15.25 in.

    Thigh: 13.25 in.

    Knee: 9 in.

    Hem: 8.25 in.

    Inseam: 35 in.

    Broark,

Thanks for the measurements of your new size 35 1101. I have a 13.7 oz. 1101 in size 34 with (surprisingly) larger post wash measurements, especially in the back rise:

    Waist: 36.0"

    FR: 12.0

    BR: 16.25

    Thigh: 13.5

    Knee: 9.5

    LO: 8.75

  7. I know what you mean Flo.  The 800 has a very soft feel, not unlike Fullcount -- both of which are very comfortable.  Sometimes I like a little stiffer denim with a tighter weave (e.g., Roy Kinda Special).  I also think the Samurai 16 oz. OG denim is not only heavier but a little denser and stiffer.

  8. Ed,

How's the front and back rise on the 710 compared to other jeans I'm familiar with (e.g., FC 1101/0105, Samurai 510 or 710)?  I think Yuichi mentioned a while back that it's not particularly high.

  9. Thanks for all the answers re sanforised or not. I had really believed the 002 and 003 were different in that they were unsanforised it appears however they are perhaps just less sanforised!

That sounds about right and consistent with the following from Gordon at Blue In Green:

"The RMC Lot 003 are not unsanforized, Some pre-shrinking has been done on the denim but it will still shrink with washing, just not as much as unsanforized denim."

  10. Hi,everyone.

I have some size question about full count.

what type of 1101 is ? does it has highrise?

I like the denim with highrise,

The 1101 has a relatively high rise with some taper below.  0105 is similar in the top block with less taper.  1108 also has a high rise but is much trimmer everywhere.

  11. question - if I'm a size XL is IH shirts, what size would I be in FH shirts? I'm 5'11, 180lbs, 32" waist, 42" chest (I used to be 200lbs, 33" waist, 44" chest; I'll probably put some weight and size back on this year). Most normal US brands shirts I'm an L; used to be XL. I was thinking 44, but now I'm thinking 42.

I've measured my IH size XL shirts, and a FH size 44 appears to measure slightly smaller, according to the size charts I've looked at on SE, Rakuten, etc.

    Thoughts/advice appreciated. Thnx! mpp

I'm 6'0" 184 lbs and wear an XL in IH and 44 or even 46 in FH.  As much as I love the material and detail on FH shirts, the chest is typically too trim, so I end up sizing up to 46 where the shoulders are too big and sleeves are too long.  While I try to check measurements, I'd also be interested in knowing if there is some way of easily predicting which FH shirts are cut larger in the chest.

  12. i hear ya setterman -- measurements don't tell the whole story and 5" difference between front and back rise may not exist (nor even be desirable).  For the heck of it, I looked back at the original, raw measurements of a few jeans I already have and found that a 4" difference (in size 34) is not uncommon (Fullcount 1101, Samurai 0510XX, Warehouse 800) but none were 5".

The reason for the original post was just to point out that back rise measurements, while often not available or talked about much, are good to know.  When I first starting buying Japanese denim, I thought that front rise was the key in terms of fit and feel in the top block but have learned since that back rise is equally, if not more important.
