  1. Hey Kiya (or anyone else who wants to give their 2 cents), I’m looking to order a few new white t- shirts from you guys. I’ve owned tees from the Flat Head c. 2014, Stevenson c. 2015 & 2016, Lady White c. 2016 and Whitesville c. 2017, all purchased from you all, with the latter two being the only ones I still own. Really like the weight of the Flat Head and Whitesville fabrics but found their cuts a little too boxy and short for my frame. The Stevenson tee was perfect all around but since they changed the fabric they used in 2016 I’ve lost interest.

Here are a couple of pics of the tees I still have:

I prefer the cut of the lady white but find the Whitesville is a lot more comfortable and harder wearing. If it was like 2 inches longer it would be perfect. Do you have any suggestions for something that might be good to try? Thanks in advance!

  2. Another vintage pair here, some double black Lee Riders from the early ‘80s, found dead stock at a goodwill about four years ago. Worn doing more or less everything.. pulled and rebuilt my first transmission, painted several dwellings, spent a lot of time playing with my (former) dog — which explains why the knees are so shredded lol — in these, among many other more mundane daily activities, including a number of ink spills which you might see faintly on the thighs. I was really proud of the left knee patch which I weaved together in 2019 with a needle and some 60s silk embroidery floss. These are looking a little worse for wear after their most recent wash, so figured it would be good to document them now before they enter their next level of deterioration.

edit: found a photo from 2018, when I first tore through the knee. You can see fragments of the repair, a scrap of red fabric and a few lines of sashiko stitching, left over beneath the woven patch ... I forgot both how dark the denim used to be and how prominent that first repair was!

  3. Absolutely love that Jameson quote bartleby, his analysis of the neoliberal / postmodern end of history is among the few theories I learned in university that i still regularly apply and reference in my life today. I really think he, silvia federici, fromm and marcuse, et al should be required reading for students today, all of whom have authored work that I believe is among the most readily taken up by the self-referential young mind. For me they were so effective at demystifying the root causes of the anxiety, confusion, anger and apathy that I see afflicting the vast majority of my generation and, I’m sure, all generations of young people from here on... not to mention providing a ready answer to the question “why is everyone wearing low-rise flares again?” that I got from a tattoo client yesterday :P

    Sold!

I’m selling some gently used Lone Wolf Farmer boots, size 8, in a black tea core chromexcel. Bought them from Yahoo Japan, the previous owner indicated they’d been worn maybe a dozen times.

  5. @JRendon02 Oh word!! Those look amazing! I made a note to stop by and see them when i visit Houston, thank you! I see through ig that tlahuac and comadre seem to know each other, small world lol! I’d recommend checking them out if you get the chance to, Mariela and her partner aaron are old friends and she’s one of the most talented and meticulous people I’ve ever met.

  6. From a seller’s perspective, I’d imagine they will be more than happy to take cash for as long as it’s possible, as credit card fees can eat up such a large percentage of their profit margins, particularly if they sell mostly low-value goods. A friend who runs a cafe in Seattle doesn’t allow card purchases for under $5 as his profit is basically wiped out in the exchange. I do think there are strong moves to wipe out cash usage in the West but can’t see it ever completely being eliminated; there are so many huge parts of the world where society is still largely cash based, and I believe it will stay that way as long as certain cultural structures (markets full of informal vendors, for example) stick around.

  7. People under the stairs samples that gabor szabo track!

Wow that takes me back lol. And szabo references donovan w the “translove airways” comment in the intro...

and in that track Donovan name drops jefferson airplane, months before they had any international recognition!

... and Jefferson Airplane, of course, drops acid :P

  8. That length looks great to me @cesco10. You can usually have jeans hemmed in 1” increments at a minimum, as about an inch of fabric is taken up by the folds of the hem. So that’s another option if you just want to go a little shorter, without having to go through the trouble and expense of buying a new pair.

  9. To be fair, it must take significantly more time and effort to sew jeans on a treadle machine, especially if it’s not something the maker is familiar with. But yeah that price is crazy. It reminds me sometimes, when I think the clothes we wear here are expensive, that there’s a whole upper echelon of fashion brands selling $600 t shirts and $2000 pairs of pants, and that the community of people who buy that clothing probably dwarfs ours.
