  1. Yeah, you'd still be on the hook for the sales tax, as it isn't deducted for the UK I believe (UK is part of EU). If your proxy marks the package value down, you might get away with not paying any import taxes, but there is nothing stopping customs from inspecting the package and figuring out the real value (may be rare but it does happen).

Acronym pre-registers the value of the package with US customs (you can see this happen when you track the package). Other shippers rely on customs themselves to inspect the bill of goods and determine customs. That may cause delay, as they frequently want to know what the goods are made of. Had this problem with End Clothing shipping to the US for instance. You get a call from the courier or customs asking for more info. Very annoying.

Some shipping methods seem to bypass this all together though. EMS from Japan for instance.

Look at it this way: You could buy so much ACR, that it'll be cheaper to get a ticket to Berlin and pick it up yourself. :-)

  2. CmdR: When I think about it, the sheen probably comes from the silicone capsules around the fibers. Any kind of agitation/wear would then ultimately cause this. If that's true, dry cleaning ought to be better than having it bang around inside a metal cylinder.

I had one pair of Stotz pants dry-cleaned to remove cooking stains (fat basically). The pant now also has a very subtle sheen, basically due to the nap of the fabric (image it like suede). Nothing like what my Epic pants developed though. They actually hold up really well both in terms of wear as well as color.

For me its Stotz pants (or CH) all the way. For jackets however, Epic is great in my book. Wearing my J23 today :)

  3. Mmm one more thought here...I'm in California and in my opinion (for here) I find even the heavy-weight Stotz to be more comfortable than Epic. Yes the Epic is thinner but it breathes far less. If I wear Epic my legs run with sweat in no time. With Stotz it might be a little warm but not sticky... YMMV.

Oh and one more thing: black Epic pants start looking shiny after a year already, not years and years.

In general you want to wash your pants as little as possible either way. They'll last longer.

  4. Syphon: that's how I remember it though it could be some kind of microfiber as well. It has that type of texture. Maybe someone else here knows for sure.

The price difference between the TS and TSR is pretty big too btw.

  5. Never understood the TSR. The suede seems fragile and seems to serve little purpose. Otherwise it's pretty much a 5TS. The 8TS is great for everyday use with a 13" laptop and daily bits like scarf, beanie, sunglasses and a compressible jacket like a j32. The 5TS is much larger. Great for a weekend or when transporting stuff. Decide based on what use you're thinking of.

  6. To confirm Misanthropod's experience: I can wear an SS-J25, medium, underneath my J32-GT medium. When wearing the J32 solo it is still a nicely fitting jacket, that doesn't feel overly roomy. Nice.

  7. Just Another XY: The duty depends on all sort of things that I'm sure the calculator takes in to account. Generally though I think of it as a wash between the deducted german VAT (20%) and the import fees.

  8. I wonder what that means...there is no "regular" SS14, so I'm assuming this is one of the "collaborations" that have been rumored. The new bags perhaps, and/or possibly a restock of FW1314 items (or SS13 ones even? DS-J5? Now I'm just wishful thinking :) )...or?

  9. Some more:

Feit Lows, Margiela Replicas, Hender Scheme's MIP05s, etc if you want to stay with sneaker type stuff.

Boots-wise the list is equally endless. Visvim 7-holes or Virgils work (pants on the inside) well. As do those high-top Stone Island/Diemme boots.
