  1. At a quick glance, it doesn't appear to be all that much different than the J32-gt.

Which, of course, has been one of the most sought-after ACR jackets in recent memory...

(and it adds interops :) )

  2. To pile on: The current gen CH is the most breathable so far. I wear it in the California heat regularly and it's fine. S or E definitely less so, though it's doable. Go with S if it ever gets cold.

  3. The difference in fees in not surprising. One piece is cotton (I assume), the other synthetic. The latter incurs a much higher tax. It's somewhat variable as sometimes the customs official will have to judge what rate to apply in case of confusion or mixed fabrics.

  4. Insomnia: Assuming that the pockets are the same on the P14 and P15, then there indeed is an additional pocket. Basically the left pocket has an additional pouch, pretty much exactly like the phone pocket on the right, inside of it. Turn the pants inside out and you'll see what I mean. It is really easy to miss as the opening is tight and high up in the front-left side of the pocket itself.

You are right about the 2 sections. The whole pocket is kind of a flat inverted V, with ends of the V forming the sections, so items will gravitate towards the left or the right "leg". The additional pocket is for item number 3, as per the demo video.

  5. Where do you live Aleporte? If it gets cold there at some points during the year, I'd say Stotz. The new CH is the most breathable of the bunch and not something I'd wear when temperatures drop (esp. wind-chill-wise). Conversely if you live somewhere warm it makes perfect sense to go CH this time. Previous season's CH was far warmer. The Epic is sort of in between for me, people's opinions of that vary. Some feel its great for warm weather as well. It also easiest to take care of. Just wash and tumble-dry.  Stotz needs dry-cleaning (not a big deal perhaps) and the CH needs line-drying (see label in Sypron's post).

  6. Great points Sypron, thanks!

Wore my pair quite a bit already and have to say they work really well. More breathable than the Stotz version to be sure. I don't find them crazy slim but their cut is definitely less bulky than then the P9. The smaller cuff means you can wear dress shoes or boots (pants inside) more easily. Been meaning to try them with some tall combat boot for instance.

Hadn't seen the Steppin Razor tag. That's a nice throwback :).

Too bad I already have J23-E, as this new CH material probably makes for a very nice summer jacket.

  7. FYI: Got my grey melange P14-CHs in yesterday. Material is indeed very different from anything I've seen from ACR.

Feels most like a thin denim with a bit a stretch. As Errolson mentioned on Twitter, they run cooler than Stotz and that bears out while wearing them. The fabric drape makes them fit/look a bit more relaxed than the Stotz version. Bought them as a travel pant for this summer and it looks like they'll work well for that purpose.

  8. WilliamL: Check back a bit in this thread for lots of discussion on Epic and comparisons to other fabrics.

Short story: Water will roll off for a while, then it'll get wet. It won't leak much though. Epic generally dries pretty quickly as well.

  9. Quick update on the P14-S: ACR did some crazy rapid pant re-deployment. Got the size L in the house already. Took a bit of a chance on this (vs refund) but I'm glad I did.

The difference is huge. Firstly, they actually fit. Secondly, the freedom of motion on these is very close to the P9. As Errolson said: similar but different. The M pair didn't have that effect for me. The difference between the "kinetic pattern" working and not is apparently pretty subtle.

I like the narrower hem. For me it means being able to wear them more easily with dress shoes and other less sneakery stuff. Deep pockets are fun as is the hidden pocketlet on the left side. The rise is quite high as mentioned. For me it may mean not tucking my shirt with these (not that I would otherwise). Recommend.

  10. The CH fabrics ACR has used up to this point would not necessarily be a good match for warm temperatures.

SS13's CH fabric is fairly light, but I'd still prefer my J23-E jacket-wise. Even better this season would be the SISP Fishtail Parka, if you want a really light Errolson-designed piece. Compresses well so you can stuff it in a go-bag.

CH generally wears really well. I've been wearing my J25 regularly since it first came out and it still looks like new. My wife wears her JF1B pretty much every day and there isn't a mark on it. That includes dealing with kids and their ability to both summon dirt, grease and sticky-stuff out of thin air and transfer it to you in bulk in a microsecond. Never felt any need to wash either of them (I mean the jackets, not the kids obviously).

Unlaminated Schoeller could be really interesting. That would make it somewhat like Outlier's fabrics (one would assume), i.e. what they call "4-way stretch". I wore a pair of their shorts in that fabric on a trip to Indonesia and they worked well.

  11. For quick deciders in the US only (until 3/26):

P14-S, BNWT from SS14, M, black, $600 shipped to CONUS.

Its a little too small for me. Will return to ACR unless someone here wants it. Note that I'm shipping this for list price, so you save on both shipping and import duties.

Also still selling CH-J3BF (Womens) M, Black, Flawless/worn once, for $600 shipped. This is an awesome jacket for a really good price.

  12. Yup completely accurate. The outseam is long because of the high rise. The inseam is the same as the P10.

If anyone in the US wants them, before I ship them back, head on over to the sales thread.

  13. The pant itself looks great by the way. Slimmer than a P9 throughout. It's a sharp look. The deep pockets are indeed fairly large (mainly because there is more room across compared to previous generation) and the left pocket has a hidden extra compartment, roughly the size and shape of the phone pocket on the right, except it's completely internal.

  14. Hey All,

Quick heads up on the P14-S. Just got it and it is (as advertised) a very different fit from a P9 or P10.

So far I've been an M in all ACR pants, but this one doesn't fit me. The reason is the much higher rise. The P9 and 10 ride on the hips, the P14 well above that. It closes but only barely and sitting down is not a pleasure. Not sure losing more weight (if I could) would solve it for me either, unless I also compress some organs. I'll be returning mine and possibly sizing up.

    YMMV.

  15. Hi Larssss,

That's indeed interesting. What I guess me (and Misanthropod too I think) were thinking was having modular bags like these, but with a little strip/flap on one of the sides. That flap would then have velcro on both sides. This velcro can then be wedged between the bag and the liner, since these are already attached via velcro to begin with. In essence the module would hang from the flap, attached to between the bag and the line and hanging into the bag itself.

  16. Couldn't agree with Misanthropod more. Internal Tec-sys would be great and have suggested as much to Errolson in the past. Sure the external tecsys works, but it doesn't work for everything. The 3A-1's internal pockets are super useful and having any kind of internal storage solution for the larger bags would be awesome. I wonder if something like that exists in the military after-market space...

  17. Personally I'm hoping they'll start moving towards 3D printed garments or at least parts of them. A collab with Iris van Herpen would rock and would tick both the "we need something really new" box as well as the "where the hell do we take the women's line" box :).
