  1. Does anyone have experience with the 18oz OD denim? I bot some 301s from the SE warehouse sale. I have some old 21oz 301s in 33 that are loose on me now even when coming fresh out of a hot wash so I went with 31 on these expecting them to be tight and stretch to perfect size. When I got them I could barely get them on, after a couple hours wearing them around the house I could button them all the way. Today is day 2 and I could button them all the way much easier than yesterday and do some light squats/lunges. They are still too tight but based on rate of progress thus far I am feeling ok about them? From the description it seems that the overdying process inflicts max shrinkage so I am hopeful that means I can get some more stretch out of them.. I can post some fit pics later but curious if anyone else has experience with this denim as a quick skim of this thread didn't turn up much.

Edit: thanks for feedback! Bummed these wont work

  2. Continued..

I'm on the hockey team, so this rink is where I've spent countless hours over the past 4 years:

Here's the science quad, where most of my classes have been (math/econ major):

And we're back to my apartment. I live above a sushi/thai restaurant, which as you might imagine gets dangerous.. I eat pad thai probably once a week. My apartment is the two sets of windows in the upper right.

And finally a couple denim shots I grabbed the other day. Been meaning to do a proper update but I've been super busy with end-of-college stuff. I'm planning on doing a full evo update after I graduate in about a month, when I've got the time and camera to do it justice. That's also when they'll be touching water for the first time, in the form of a wash.

Color is a bit washed out due to direct sunlight, but you can kind of see that there's a bit of vertical falling going on. They've also got a smooth texture in places which I strongly suspect is because they're getting a bit grimy, and I'm hopeful that a wash will reveal more fading than you can see now. Regardless, I'm super happy with where they're at now, and I've got a good feeling about where they'll be in another year!

  3. ^^ My pair have also yet to touch water, but I'm planning on washing them after I graduate in a month.

Here's my late challenge 5 submission. My only work experience is in the form of internships which don't allow jeans, which left out denim at work, and I've got no significant other, which left out romance, so my only option was show off your country. I go to school in a small town in the mountains (sort of in a valley between mountains), so I don't really have any national monuments or anything, but I think small-town America is a great representation of my country - it's very peaceful and idyllic and it's great being so close to nature. Anyway, here's where I've spent the last 4 years, in the form of kind of a day in my life:

The view when I step out my front door. This is the one main street running through the town/campus:

The local deli, where they make the best sandwiches. Literally across the street from me.

    IMG_1382_zps80b408e5.jpg

The hole-in-the-wall local pub where we go every weekend (and most weekdays now that we're seniors):

The liquor store. We're on a first name basis with the owner, who calls us in to take shots with him whenever we walk by..

The local coffee shop, and my favorite coffee shop ever. The name comes from the network of tunnels running under the town.

    To be continued..

  4. I'll second that Max. I go a couple and they all shrank enough in length that I don't wear them by themselves any more. But they still fit comfortably, just a little short and a tad tight, making them the perfect undershirt to wear under FH flannels - the only undershirt heavy enough to be worthy of wearing under such a heavy duty flannel

  5. What's the typical turn around time for a return? I sent my kerouac ducks back a couple weeks ago (with the exchange form filled out) to exchange them for miners, and I was just wondering when I can hope to see the miners.

  6. I had the blue western shirt, I loved the fabric (I just sold it because the size was too big for me.)

Offchops:  When fully shrunk my 1001's inseam ended up at 86 cm.  It's about an inch longer than the inseam on a 3001 or most other FH models.

And I bought it, and love it. Here's a fit pic I snapped that might answer your question about skin tone - I'm pretty pale in the pic.

  7. ^ Was your bed wet?  ;)

    No more so than usual..

Anyway, decided I had to make the purchase, they should be arriving in a couple days. I gotta believe the universe wants me to own these jeans.

  8. I had a dream last night that I bought a pair of PBJ Deep Indigo XX-009s in sie 30 and they fit perfectly. As soon as I woke up I checked BiG and the measurements look like they'd be perfect for me. I honestly can't even remember the last time I was looking at that model online, so it's kind of weird that I would have a dream like that - it's gotta be a sign right? I think I have to buy them now?

  9. Took a couple lap shots in direct sunlight today, just with my iphone. Tough to see, but the thighs are developing an interesting texture.

And the wear spot from the fly denim on the inside (below and to the left of the fly)

And finally the two spots most in danger of ripping through (besides the crotch which is growing thin..)

    Chapstick:

    And spit tobacco:

    IMG_1260_zpsc1f50159.jpg

Probably going to get their first wash in about a month, more to tighten them back up than anything else, as they've grown a bit loose in the waist despite my always wearing a belt.

EDIT: Last two shots were taken indoors near a window, hence the different color

  10. And just pulled the trigger on the SC sun surf floral. This shirt's gonna be the undisputed champ of spring break. Thanks for the sizing advice Kiya!

EDIT: And I just received an email that online stock was outdated there aren't any larges left.. Any chance one of the other stores has one of these shirts in stock?

  11. Quick pre-wash fit pic:

And the post wash(cold wash no detergent, tumble dry til damp, air dry) fit pic on a lazy sunday morning:

    DSC04482_zps9549d352.jpg

Tough to compare color with the different lighting, but IRL there was no difference pre- and post-wash.

Proper contest intro pics/bio coming soon!

  12. @skurlandski The Kerouac's have a tight thigh so anyone with muscular thighs should go with the Miner fit. My other fit in my head is Miner thigh with Kerouac knee and opening? any thoughts?

@stanrae unfortunately I'm not making anymore Indigo duck chinos at all. I have a little indigo duck left and  may do a proper pair of indigo sneaks. The ones I did before were both made out of White Oak duck. I do have some nice Cone Selvedge 10 oz indigo twill I'm cutting in the Miner and the Field pant shortly so more stuff to stain up your shit.

RE both the fit idea and the sneaks: that sounds like I'd have a hard time ever wearing anything else. Definitely expect a preorder from me as soon as those become a reality.

  13. If you don't give these at least a rinse, you'll find yourself becoming an indigo King Midas - it sounds awesome at first, but soon you'll realize the pain of staining everything you touch with indigo...

  14. Can you comment on the indigo loss from the cold wash?

I didn't notice any at all - I think the indigo that was rubbing off was just excess, not fully soaked into the fibers. They look the exact same but now they're not staining anything I sit on or touch, which is nice. I went with a cold wash (no detergent) and a tumble dry, then laid them out very slightly damp to finish drying. They seemed a bit tighter, but i gave the thighs a few quick tugs to stretch them back and they fit perfectly now. Maybe a bit shorter and slimmer through the calf which is exactly what I would've wanted. Honestly the perfect sweats, it'll be a pleasure wearing these for the next year. Post wash and "official" fit pics coming tomorrow.

I wear a 32 in the duck miners. I didn't wash mine for the first 4 months. Did a luke warm hand wash with a cold rinse. Shrunk around 5% at most. A little more than sanforized raw denim but not by much.  Stretched back out pretty quickly. Inseam was the only thing really affected. Thighs were pretty much the same after a day or two. Fades did shift though.

Go with the miner cut. It's nice having some breathing room around your junk and the fuller look through the leg is 'en vogue'

Thanks for the advice, I think I'm leaning towards the miners now, for the better fitting thighs without sacrificing fit in the waist - I'm around a true waist of 30-31 but I always have to size up for my thighs if I want anything slim-ish from the knees down.

  15. Just got my sweats in the mail, and my hands were already indigo stained after just unpacking them and putting them on! Snapped a quick pre-wash fit pic and tossed them in the wash for a cold wash (no soap), in order to make them wearable without staining everything I come into contact with.. Still deciding how I want to dry them, I don't really want them any slimmer but I wouldn't care if I lost an inch or two of length - any thoughts?

Also, got the duck chinos and they fit a bit slimmer than I thought they would (size 32, kerouac fit). I need a bit more room in the thighs, so I'm either going to exchange them for a 33 in the kerouac or a 32 in the miner -  the deciding factor will be how much they would shrink with a cold wash or soak. Anybody have any advice?

  16. Just pulled the trigger on my sweats for the contest, so stoked to get started. Also picked up some selvedge duck chinos, been looking for a pair of ducks for awhile and these fit the bill and then some.

  17. whats your p2p and shoulder size?

Do you mean measuring my body, or measuring a shirt that fits well?

That's interesting, Skulandski. Both me, Junior and now 2 regular customers have had to size up on this shirt. You look quite muscular in the chest & back which surprises me even more.

Those that go TTS in the sawtooth tend to be pretty slender in that area.

Anyway, glad it worked out for you.

Hmm, I'm surprised to see the need to size up has been so unanimous, I guess I'm the anomaly here. I'm a college athlete so I'm definitely in the gym a lot and consider myself to be fairly muscular, but I felt the cut of the sawtooth worked well with that as it had a very healthy taper - despite being slim in the waist it still feels plenty roomy in the shoulders. I guess the takeaway might be that if you are very slim OR have a fairly tapered torso you can get away with TTS (or at least TTS to the size you wear in FH westerns)?

  18.

The 7002w Sawtooth denim shirt is now in now in our The Flat Head collection. Made of 12 oz rope-dyed selvedge denim. It oozes with both texture and character. This shirt is designed with broad shoulders and tapers to a slim fit. You need to size up. If you usually wear a 42 you'll need a 44. We have sizes 38-44. Size 46 will be here soon.

I actually had a different experience, so I figured I throw my 2 cents in: I wear a 42 western flannel, a 42 T, and I ordered a 44 in the sawtooth, but it was way too big and I exchanged it for a 42. The 42 fits me perfectly, a little slimmer in the waist than my flannels (and definitely as slim as I'd ever want to go) but I love the fit. Here's a comparison:

All 42, although the T is a pre-wash fit pic. Hope this helps anybody looking at the sawtooth, I personally love mine and alternate between wearing it as an overshirt and a shirt - its the perfect middle weight to do both.
