On the topic of E material, I read in an outdoor forum that DS uses a proprietary coating that is difficult to reapply, and last for about 50 washes. What about E?

E uses something called "silicone encapsulation". The idea is that the fibres are coated in a thin, permanent layer of silicone that prevents water absorption. It is supposed to be more durable than DWR but cannot be re-applied. In practice it does wear off in contact with things like cordura nylon or velcro.

  2. From a military/mountaineering perspective Epic was always intended to be paired with a base layer in cold weather. It is almost entirely designed around being extremely fast to dry - they call it 'walk dry' in the mil, where after immersion or heavy rain the user needs to be able to continue doing whatever they were tasked to do and dry while doing it.

    edit for grammar mistake

and how crisp it feels when new is unbeatable

just got mine, 'crisp' is apt! can't believe how different these feel from broken in epic.

  4. Yeah even the MIC P10DS flew out the door. I'm guessing the production numbers are still based on all the hype around the brand and the hype is waning.

Then again we all used to bitch about missing out on drops so... now we got the stock we wanted.

edit: also my mothersite order from monday still hasn't even shipped yet. come on guys, would've been better off ordering from a retailer like this.

  5. It's rather telling that for all their rationalising of MIC, they go to the effort of listing the fabric's country of origin but not the entire garment's country of origin.

edit: i dont think my MIC p10ds are any less well constructed than my czech P10CH and if that holds for the P10e i'll be more than happy with them but jeez guys, just own it. Arc'teryx even lists the goddamn chinese factory the garment is made in these days.

Don’t know what that is, pretty sure encapsulated nylon hasn’t been around that long but I’ve had my P10A-E for over a year and a half and it feels the same after like 20 washes, just not crispy new

Nextec Epic Glacier, the fabric used by acronym, has been around since the very early 00's. My PCU L5 (this thing) uses the same fabric and was made in 2004. Maybe when my P10e's arrive i'll do an "old meets new" fit with both or something.

got no idea how that color can be considered calling “Alpha Green”?!

It’s more like Grey Tan to me

alpha green is what the color was called when it was introduced for the USSOCOM PCU programme. i think the term originated with patagonia MARS kit that was more noticeably green and it stuck. at any rate ACR didn't invent the name - keeping it around is a nod to those historical military clothing programmes.

  8. oh yeah featurewise the 1516 belt loops are way better than the 2020 ones. the 15/16 ones are traditional belt loops, but the 2020 ones are folded over to allow them to expand and as such the pants have a tendency to sag out underneath the belt. pretty big design flaw imho.

  9. I know it's not quite the same thing but my 2015 p10-CH is definitely a bit roomier than my 2020 p10-DS, especially in the calves/ankles. Not enough of a difference to switch sizes though.

  10. the panelling on the liner jacket is great, serious ghost in the shell/akira aesthetic.

P41 looks like it should have been a nike acg design instead.

  11. I mean, drop day is still exciting, don't get me wrong. Even when you're not buying, seeing the new stuff is great.

I just miss the sort of collector's high you get from watching ebay or grailed and bumping into some old piece you particularly like. Can still get that from veilance whenever i find a 2010-2014 timeframe piece though, so at least there's that.

  12. Anyone else feel like the second hand market for ACR has been in a rut? For a couple of years now grailed has just been a repository of previous season hype pieces being flipped and staple pieces sitting forever for retail prices, there is essentially zero supply of older pieces being passed on (probably because by now everyone who has pre-2018 acr loves that time period and won't part with it) and ebay has become essentially irrelevant. Even the sufu CST, while it has a lot of productive community members, is 90% last year's items from people who can't or don't want to return. I think the last time i was truly enthused about the brand was when hanon was doing their archive sale.

  13. having to turn on images on the overview page is weird as fuck both practically and conceptually, but the product detail page is great in it's focus on 99% photography.
