  1. Just worn for a few days, here's a pair of Viper-X021 bought in SF a couple days ago for my gf. The construction is amazing for a women's pair: back pockets rivets, back pockets reinforcements fabric, heavy weight Kuroki 14.25Oz selvedge denim, triple stitching...

Can't wait to see how these will fade.

    Type: RFG Viper X021

    Worn for: 3-4 days

    Washes: none.

  2. After heavy repairs in the crotch area here's an update on some Baldwin "Ten".

It's pretty hard to repair fabric that stretches...

    Type: Ten - Skinny

Worn for: 1 year, probably 5-6 months of effective wear

Washes: 5-6, first one around 3 months.

  3. Hello shoes experts,

bought a pair of RW877 in November. I've been rather pleased with them so far. But as I was cleaning them a bit I noticed the following on the right shoe (picture below). So I was wondering:

    - I'd say this looks faulty, does it or could it be 'natural use'? (only one month of wear)

    - should I stop wearing them right now?

    - anybody's got some feedback about RW customer service in case I have to send them back? Bought them a local store in Montreal.

Edit: by looking at pictures like here (and zooming at the side pic) it seems usual. Is this due to construction methods? If yes, why would it be only on one of them?

  4. You can easily make a shinkansen day trip to Okayama from Osaka though. I think it was 50k ¥ rond trip. If so, do it on a Saturday, most shops are closed otherwise.

And you can go from Osaka to Kyoto using the regular 'subway' system. I had some kind of weekly 'Kansai pass' to move easily all around the place.

Kyoto is great and relaxing indeed. I miss the awesome ramens with the perfect juicy orange egg!

You'll have a great time no matter what.

  5. Hmm. Thanks for the details everyone. Pretty interesting.

I'm 5'9" for 133 pounds. I wear UES flannels in size 1. They are 47 cm large pit to pit meaning a real 37 chest (42cm for shoulders). I usually pay attention to the shoulders width and arms length. And anything wider than 17" (shoulders) and shorter than 24" (arms) looks pretty bad.

So strictly from the measures I'd go with the fh 38 and stretch what needs to be (as its denim).

    Does it make sense/sound realistic?

I'd rather try s38 and 40 if I could but Tate and Yoko doesn't carry this model unfortunately.

  6. "Packing for"   ---  Panama - Bocas Del Toro:

    - N&F light-weight shirt

    - K5-II WR tropicalized

    - Frontal lamp to see what's going on after dawn

    - 1 year worn shitty leather wallet and new UES hook

    - Aviators, polarized

    - Low summer sneakers

    - Freshly cut-off Nudies (worn for about a year).

  7. Hello,

I'm considering adding a nice (slim) denim shirt to my 'top' pieces. I've ended up selecting these two models:

    - the Flat Head 7002W

    - Rogue Territory Western Shirt.

Their measures are quite similar it seems (for a size 2 FH and a small RT). And I'm quite surprised both have such a short length (26.5"). Would it be wise sizing up and try to shrink it considering they're both rinsed or sanforized already?

The FH is a bit thicker. Should I pay attention to some specific details construction wise?

    Thanks

  8. I´m going to Paris in a couple of weeks. Does anybody know about any good stores in Paris? I can´t find anything denimrelated..

Paris is pretty empty when it comes to quality denim. Our lucky neighbours Germans - and now Brits - have a huge amount of options in comparisons with stores such as 14oz, Burg and Schild or Rivet and Hide.

But there are still a few options. About the adresses given by the RawR scout feature:

    - Royal Cheese: not much to see unless you're looking for some Nudies.

    - Colette: only a few pairs of Naked & Famous. Overcrowded, over hyped.

    - Elevation store: a bit more interesting. You should find a small selection of Japan Blue pairs and even less Momotaro jeans. Can't remember seeing Denham jeans, only jackets and shirts.

    - Rocker Speed Shop: Damn, it opened just when I left Paris...looks promising. Nice brands selection: Sugar Cane, Real Mc Coy, Dry Bones...

    Some other options:

    - 45 rpm has got a store not far from Colette.

    - sharing the same vibe as Rocker Speed Shop, you can visit T-Bird. The ownder is very nice and knowledgeable. Bought my wallet rein there. They carry: Buzz Rickson, Mister Freedom, The Rising Sun among others. There are several smaller labels too.

    - Killiwatch indeed. Hipsters, crowded and overpriced. But a nice place to visit.

And you can try your luck by going to the clignancourt flea market.

And that's it. Not much ot see in Paris (well, denim related). Plenty of other things to do though!

    Good luck!

Found a couple shots of T-Bird taken with a cell cam:

  9. Type: S710BKH

Worn for: Since October 2013, probably 3 months of effective wear so far

Washes: 1 hot soak and 1 wash to get rid of the shrinkage. None since.

Speaking of Black denim, before Max kills it with awesome 710BK fades, here's a snapshot of the current evo on a pair of Black Hawk.

Not sure if it's the first intense washes but they don't fade very quickly compared to what can read here about other indigo dyed sammies. In fact I just started noticing whiskers fading a few weeks ago. Black fades may be more subtle at first than indigo ones.

All taken with natural light. The two first shot are quite close to actual colors.

  10. I hany pairs of raws but only 2 on rotation currently, including my S5000BK (Black warp/White weft).

These are my first pair of Sammys and I have to say I love the s5000 fit and their Zero denim is insane. The fabric is so slubby it has completely worn off the hairs at the back of my calves, haha.  :D

I am also impressed with how fast this black denim is fading. There is about 1 month of wear on them and I already have a decent amount of wear on the thighs, crotch, wallet and phone fades on the back pockets, and the hidden rivets will be popping through in no time.

I tried to capture some of the details in these photos from Instagram:

Nice pictures! Looking forward to seeing these fade.

    Cheers.

  11. Type: 0805SP

Worn : since March 2011, probably 10-11 months of effective wear

Washes: Three, first one around 6 months

These are approaching a year of wear and hardly needed any repair. The crotch is as good as new. Apart from the stitching on back pockets, I'm pretty impressed by the quality. The fact they're 'One wash' may help longevity.

Full pair shots were taken with flash. The 2 first shots are close to actual colours.

  12. The 701 is what you should look into. Probably also some Japan Blue models, they run mostly pretty tight.

Nice advice Max. The 701 cut is my favourite among all my pairs of Japanese denim. I find it the perfect slim fit. And I'm rather skinny (62kg for 1.79m). So I would say that it's the perfect overall fit...for me.

    So Ljkya

You may want to have a look at Pure Blue Japan and Strike Gold for skinnier fits too. @pbj their xx-011/12/13/17 cut is very slim. @sg their SGXX09 cuts are even slimmer.

And if you want some Japan Blue stuff, I'm sure someone else will have some advice for you soon.

    Cheers

  13. Vgadjo, did you give them any agitation when you soaked them? If you do happen to give them another soak within the next couple of days, I'd love to see the updated measurements. I had to send my 5105's back to SELA because the waist was too small. They're holding a pair of 5109's for me that have the right measurements, but the amount of shrinkage you got in the thigh has me a bit worried, I may need to size up one if they shrink that much in the thigh. Does anyone know how easily the thighs stretch with this denim?

    Hey,

I also took some measurements in cm before soaking them. The one from the previous post (Pre-soak) were from SE in inches. So I'm not sure how they measure exactly but I had something slightly smaller than 10.8 to begin with. It was closer to 10.6.

I would rather say that the knees are tight for me. My pbj-005s were almost as tight when brand new (knees and thighs). Now they're perfect. I hope the SGs will behave the same.

Btw I gave them some agitation when soaking but nothing close to a washing machine.

  14. For those interested in post soak measures of some SG 5109 in s28, here they are:

Pre (SE)             Post 45min hot soak

    Waist              30.0                   29.5

    Inseam           37.5                   35

    Thigh              10.8                  10.2

    Knee                7.0                     6.8

    Leg Opening    6.7                     6.3

    Rise                 9.7                      9.4

As you can tell, the majority of shrinkage occurred on the inseam. I may give them another soak or wash just in case there would be some more left elsewhere.

    Cheers

  15. I don't shred jeans like some folks around here, so they're not impressively faded.

Overall, they're holding up really well. They've made me quite enamored with Studio D'Artisan.

This is an interesting remark. As far as I'm concerned, my jeans - such as a pair of 103s - shred way more in the combs when they were bought unsanforized. 'Once washed' Momos don't shred as much for instance.

Would it be because post home-soaked/home-washed jeans still contain a lot of starch? I remember the Sda were very stiff brand new.

  16. Just joined the SG club with a pair of SG5109.

Soaked them, they're hanging outside in the sun with the cat watching for squirrels.

Damn, these squirrels are crazier than Conker in his worst days. Tells me more about the expression "being nuts".

Back to the jeans, the fabric is impressive and unusual. I'll share some post soak measurements for them, s28.

Thanks to Tmadd for the help on sizing these.

  17. Here's a pair of raws from my gf. These start looking broken in.

But it's so hard to keep repairing them. Being used to Japanese denim pairs that hardly need a repair before reaching 10-12 months, this is a bit disappointing.

The cut is very nice though.
