  1. I just purchased a pair of Left Field Greasers from Stag in Austin. These are my first pair of raw denim, so please excuse me if this is a stupid question. When I was rolling up the cuffs, I noticed some threads coming out of the selvedge seam. The white threads are coming out of the white band at the edge of the fabric. Is this normal? I thought that the selvedge seam was supposed to prevent any fraying. I've included a picture in the link below.

Yeah, my 23oz have a bunch of these little tufts along the ID, as have previous jeans from other brands.

  2. So here's my latest mostly uninteresting adventure in my sweats up until now.

Other than wearing them to work in the office almost daily...

And educating my coworkers on the subject of raw denim and its various levels of awesomeness...

I haven't done too much in them sadly, thanks to work. I need to think of something cool to do in them to warrant another update, but this is the best i have so far this summer.

This weekend I decided to drive over to East Texas where our lake house is, and try to do a bit of work on my old RX7, and also help my dad a bit with maintaining the place.

Lucily i convinced my friend Connor to join me, so we got there pretty quickly on those back country roads.

Connor and I spent a good bit of time just relaxing and enjoying time away from work

And man, is that Texas sky a sight to see...

I got to try on the most intense winter boots I've ever seen, thanks to an estate sale where my grandma got them for $2

They were a size 9 and looked like about a size 13

I made a bit of progress on my mazda which i'm happy about

    KToOMb4l.jpg

and soon i'll be bringing her home to Fort Worth since we'll have a garage again.

Anyways, aside from sitting in the office 45 hrs a week and playing video games after work, the sweats haven't seen too much action unfortunately. I hope to be a bit more active in them soon. So far they're just finally starting to show some fading in the creased areas. These things are definitely not fast faders, but i think they'll be very interesting once they've got a year+ of wear into them. I look forward to seeing how everybody else's pairs are doing, because i'm super interested in how they're aging with the rest of y'all.

I realize this post was mostly photos of things other than sweats and I hope this wasn't too lackluster of a post, but i wanted to add some more sweats love to the thread and i'd really like to see some progress from the other competitors as well. Hope everybody is doing well!

That is a sweet looking RX7!

  3. Oh, everywhere you look it Serubitchi cell bitch! ! Cell bitch! ! ! ! ! ! Over Serubitchi's full

I still think those jeans are awful, and the price tag is even worse, but have to say it's a pretty cool piece.

Yeah, they're a cool "concept" piece, but I don't think anyone's really rushing to get these.

  4. Top 5 by category so far (Been buying since 2007)

    SlimStraight Fit:

Skull 5010 Black, no fading possible.

    Japanese Repro Construction:

Eternal 811, really deep tones, authentic repro details and nice texture. Sized down a literal whole size and did some crazy shrinking to deal with the hip flare.  An amazing fit at the moment on my brother but no longer fit me :( Would definitely buy again.

    Best 501 fit:

Newest Levi's 501 STF 33x36, this fit fucking rocks.  As a slim 6'3" dude the 12" rise and slimmer cut are perfect for a straight jean. It's such a crap shoot with Japanese repros. Either the rise is too fucking low or the cut is too full w/ hipflare.  I really don't like branding on my clothes so I tore off the pocket embroidery and the patch with a stitch cutter. Roy's KS1001 is an almost identical pattern.  I really loved the KS1001 and the details but I bought too small of sized and was scared of ripping open the crotch at 6 months on a $350 jean.

    Most Thoroughly Faded:

    APC New Standard

    Next Likely Purchase:

Samarai 710 or Left Field Greaser.  I want a slim, high quality, attention to detail jean with a 11.5"+ rise.

    greeeeeeeeeaserrrrrrrrrrr

while I can't speak for the Samurai, I'm no sure I can ever be persuaded to wear anything other than greasers because the cut is so good. I am also slim 6'3" dude

  5. I might wait a bit and see if they come out with another jacket...if the the shipping is going to be 45, might as well only do it once...

True. I had my friends in on it when I ordered and we split the shipping.

  6. Christian has gone through about 6 or 7 pairs at this point.  He wears his stuff pretty hard (understatement), and we only brought darning machine in last month.  That was one of the pairs from the initial cutting of the sulfur denim.  I'd love to see him rock a pair for 2 years.  They would be wrecked.

He's wearing a pair of the 23, right?

  7. All the sweats look pretty dope but I still think it's hilarious that you guys are fading sweats

do remember, this is the left field thread...

(the joke is subtle but it's there)

  8. Just emailed Sage and found out a few things:

    1) They have a new website: http://www.sage.gs/

    2) The Feral Jean above is sanforized and is $100, unsanforized 22oz Marcher is $145 and shipping would be 45

    3) They offer two fits (slim and slim straight)

    4) some things are stocked, some are made to order.

    5) they can do longer inseams upon request.

    6) someone with 20 years of experience making jeans sews each pair.

    7) Marcher line is from Japan Blue mills, other models are from un-named mills:

"we have two lines in our denim product, the Marcher line and regular line, the Marcher line only uses fabrics from Japanblue Collect, because we basically have some kind of agreement with them to always create product with their fabrics for Marcher.

The Marcher 22oz actually have been in our running article from 2012, the difference is back then in 2012 we use sanforized version of the fabric. As for the regular line, we will never mention the mills, it's been our idealism since the first time we released our regular line denim, we don't want people to judge the quality of a jeans from its fabric source"

    8) Custom requests take up to 5 days to produce.

If you end up getting a pair of those black big slub above, be sure to post pictures, and of course give 'em hell!

  9. I'm seriously hoping they come out with another denim jacket soon, or that they miraculously have one of the older ones in my size in stock come cold weather.

  10. When @mfarmtown finishes my coveralls, I think they'll need to make a stop with y'all for that awesome embroidery service. That is seriously a cool thing to offer. Can't wait to see what people come up with!

The whole idea of this is cool, but I have no idea what I'd even ask for. I'd probably just order a shirt and tell them to come up with something, chef's choice style.

  11. Haven't been on sufu a lot. But my Sage hit the one year wear mark a while back ago. Wardens are coming through beautifully with a nice shade of blue.

Also saw Sage has a slubby black pair out now with a good looking fit.

Let's get some pictures in this thread! :)

And yeah. They've got some really cool fabrics. My only complaint with their fits is that the rise is just so low... One of these days I'll take them up on an MTO piece with a higher rise.

  12. I decided that I wanted to keep my SG2109s but I wanted to try them as shorts (jorts?) BEFORE they were faded and destroyed. Reason is, is because the knee tends to be the highest fade area and now that these are just above the knees, I should get a completely different fade. California is starting to get hot now so these have been seeing some wear... Shorts were hemmed at SE.

Man, that takes balls! Give 'em hell, though, I'd be interested to see how they come out. I hope you got to keep all the extra fabric, though. That would make a sweet patching material.

  13. Holy shit man! Haha well i live in korea and it gets humid as fuck out in asia! Not sure where you are from. Nonetheless when i was visiting thailand recently it was 38 c with like90 percent humidity and people were rockin leather and samurai jeans hahaaha.

Haha I've heard stories of people out there... but I'm lucky as to live in a place with relatively tame summers. I feel like there must be a health risk in wearing 20oz+ in that kind of weather.

You're the first I've seen posting with that new fabric, good luck to you with it!

  14. I recently got a pair of japan blue monster selvedge 16.5 oz. loving them but its getting a bit hot for em. Anyone else get these? Ill probably die wearing em in summer lol

    image_zpse1aaf9b8.jpg

nah, I'm sitting in a pair of 23oz right now, you can do it!

  15. I'm 5'11. Traditionally, Type IIs are traditionally quite short and boxy, and I even tried a Type III before this one. This one is good for me though - not as cropped as I thought it would be. It's not a 'long' jacket by any stretch of the imagination, but it sits right.

Well, crap. Haha I'm nearly 6'4", but I was hoping a type II might work out. Thanks!

  16. Hey, thanks. Sugar Cane do good work.

I'm honestly not one for the 'no-wash' ritual many people put their jeans through. I wash my clothes when they need washing, raw denim or not. That being said, I don't think the jacket had needed a wash yet, and unless I get sprayed with mud or something I see it staying that way for a while.

How would you describe the length? I'm interested in a Type II, and Sugar Cane's is great for the price, but as I'm tall all around I'm worried about that.

  17. These are looking really cool - much lighter than I'm used to seeing the Black Maria.

We just added macro shots of all of the selvedge fabrics.

Here is the new Kaihara and the Grey Heather from Collect.  If you wanna see the rest check out the new product.  Don't wanna clog things up!

what did you guys use to take those?

  18. The Vintage range really throws up some beautiful worn-in denim.

While I've never actually seen or owned vintage label Momos, I am of the opinion that it has to be one of the most underrated fabrics around. I hardly ever see anyone bring it up, and it's a truly beautiful thing when faded in, it seems.
