  1. but i used to be a watch guy back in primary school till i lost my watches because it felt annoying wearing them.. but on the other hand i wanted one so badly. it was the adidas digital rubber watch in red.

  2. i'm not surprised if they drop the white gold.

WG for a watch like this is useless. it's quite a soft metal and has a premium price. a 'daily' kinda watch like a gmt should have SS to be able to handle the brutality. it's a nice watch but there's no way i'd get it in white gold. only sort of WG watches i'd probably consider are stuff that are going to be worn lesser and maybe a little dressier.

my previous wedding ring, a cartier was white gold, you should see the amount of fine scratches on it..

  3. this is the japan only version from 2 years ago.. not the one that was recently released. just in case anyone is not on the IH forum. i thought i post these here as well to show how it's worn in thus far..

i was always on the fence about this.  I primarily would buy and wear watches that appeal to me in terms of style and design over investment.  Honestly, Rolex and most Patek designs are just plain boring in my opinion but they can get away with it because they are Rolex and Patek!  That said, this old French watchmaker I used to work with put it very simply.  If you get kidnapped in the Congo, a Rolex could secure your freedom.

The Royal Oak was always one of my favorite designs also.

Yes. I’d agree that style and design has to take precedent. Although, I wouldn’t go for something really fancy like MB&F and the sorts. Rolex to me is pretty functional, although I can’t agree with them using white gold on their gmt. With Patel though, I can’t say their designs are boring and plain, especially with the amount of complications in terms of their movements. I do almost tend to go with my heart first on the watches I like rather than it’s value potential.

with that said, an expert in Rolex once told me when I asked him, “given today’s Rolex watch prices, how can you be sure that a Rolex will appreciate?”

What he said was, “back in those days, the few hundred or thousands of dollar people spend on watches were considered huge in those times, they’d wouldn’t be too sure the value would appreciate but it did.”

morale of the story, only if you plan on buying based on investment value, that is not to be put off by today’s retail prices..

  5. @Wei Wen thanks man. a wise man (my godmother and cousin), who's in the watch industry, once taught me "if you wanna get a watch, only ever get rolex or patek. they're sure to appreciate in value and hold it's value no matter what the situation is."

although from my POV, i'd much rather have the AP. love the royal oak's shape. nothing too fancy though, maybe the basic auto or even the chrono..

  6. my lesser wear time watches...

a very understated vostok. they do rugged military and diver mechanical watches.. and a seiko that need a change of strap. (god knows why i bought that colour in the first place..)

  7. @aho honestly, i'm not too fussed about the bracelet. firstly, i wear them 99% of the time with a nato strap and i change back to the bracelet every now and then when i feel like it. also, if they had gone all brushed, i'd doubt it'll look that good with the font of the GMT bezel and the tone of the ceremic bezel, which i feel is more due to the tone and sheen of the ceremic bezel. i look at the scratches every now and then, but if i were to baby it, the watch would be probably sitting the the box all the time and not see any wear. it's almost impossible to avoid the scratches. with that said, i'm currently looking at add a RubberB bracelet to the collection of accessories..

Yea Bay Area generally means San Francisco/Oakland and the surrounding area's give or take some miles.  I dont want to start a rant but everything here seems to cost like 4x what it does elsewhere.  In San Francisco itself rents are outrageous to the point of being laughable and disrespectful.    You don't get much relief leaving the city either.  Unfortunately the transit systems were not built to support the amount of people using them on a daily basis so its always crowded and basically running off borrowed time so there is little incentive to live further outside of the city to commute in.  Obviously Im painting this picture with a wide brush but thats the general situation.

oh what a shame.. i've got good memories of SF from when i visited back in 2008. back then, the vibe i got from the city was that it was really artsy, vibrant and such freedom in exploring the arts and what not, kinda like freedom to express yourself. but of course, visiting is very different from living there. would love a trip there again some day.

  9. @aho yeah 10k is a far stretch, even for me right now. but it's good having a goal to work to. 6694 (oysterdate) rolexes come in about USD1.5k and the apple watch 3 ceremic cellular would be about AUD1.8k (not sure of US pricing) right now. i was impressed with ben clymer's review on it but am not too sure about anything over 1k for a digital watch with a lifespan of 1 or so years..

my cousin is the overall brand manager for the hour glass in singapore for hublot. i think they carry FP as well. maybe i should ask her if i could have a look some day. hahaha. :P

@garden gnomes in space so the SF area is pretty cut throat aye? i'm not sure if bay area means SF but i took a shot and guess. anyway, i was watching a video about the quality of living in SF itself and they were saying the costs were way above the average compared to other major cities. housing/rent, food, childcare and such costs more than others. something about rent in itself for a family of 4 would be somewhere about 2,500 per forthnight? which i guessing the national average was only about 1.3/4 or so??

I wouldn't dare touch a Patek, or an FP for that matter (my personal holiest of holies) for fear of illusions of grandeur...Very cool experience though I'm sure!

oh how i wish there wasn't a waiting list for the nautilus/ aquanaut because that's the one i've been lusting after. although i did get a "wink wink" on that list if i ever one day decide to put a solid down for that one day. funny, just the other day, i was thinking about x+1 and how there couldn't be any grails as there's always room for 1 more. and now you've reminded me of FP Journe. Those watches are beautiful. sadly i haven't come across one in person yet :(

for 2018, hopefully a 6694 rolex ideally or the apple watch (don't laugh!) celluar has been on my mind of late..

  11. hahaha @aho i don't have much to show except.... maybe this..

YEAH. KEEP ON DREAMING LOUIS. This is more likely, my other occasionally worn counterpart. that patek was beautiful though. had the luxury of being shown around the PP showroom in london, 1 of 3 in the world with a workshop in the basement as well..
