  1. Copper or brass for wallet chain?

Go with copper; seems less common and more interesting. And it oxidizes cooler.

    I'M SO TORN!!!

I like that the riders has a zipper closure, pockets, and the bi-swing shoulder, but I'm not sure i want the motorcycle jacket look. I'd feel like one of those morons who wears a band tee, but has never listened to that band.

I like the looks of the type III, and that its $50 cheaper, But it doesn't seem quite as practical.

    HELP!!!

I love, love, LOVE the rider. Don't worry about not having a bike, just wear what you like.

  2. Interesting; I haven't noticed a smoke smell with mine and i have a couple of pairs. I vaguely recall reading somewhere that manufacturers will sometimes singe the excess hairs off of denim during the sanforization process to make the fabric more smooth and shiny, but I could be wrong about that. And I have no idea if Raleigh does that if it is right.

14.5oz is a nice weight- I think anything from 14oz to 16oz is about perfect. Seems like most of Raleigh's models are lighter. I think Victor prefers denim closer to 13oz.

  3. currently considering a pair of indigo IH301s from self edge....I live in san francisco/san mateo area and was wondering if anyone can comment whether or not the 21oz gets too hot/uncomfortable to be worn year round in the bay? Its a toss up btw FH bsps or these :(

I don't live in the Bay area, but right off the top of my head, I know that shubharamani, deadendpro and landocal126 (until just recently) live around there and wear IH stuff constantly. I've been wearing my 634s here in Texas and I know of at least 3-4 others scattered around the state that do so, too.

Cents or Non Cents and Kiya are dead on about the breathability of the fabric. My 634s don't really feel heavier than a couple of pairs I have in the 14-15 oz range, and I mean that in the best possible way. It's a testament to Iron Heart that they can make a super heavy denim that doesn't make you feel like you're wearing pants made out of bathmats.

  4. I guess that might be appropriate, that the palace is presented as a looted property. You can see why there's still a secessionist movement in Hawaii. I saw their flags (the Hawaii state flag flown upside down) all over the islands, and noticed an especially large number of them on the windward shore of Oahu north of Kailua.

You seem to know something about Hawaiin history- you from there?

Nah, that paragraph summed up most of my knowledge about Hawaii. That secessionist movement stuff reminds me of the crazy state I live in now. A lot more justified for Hawaii, I have to say.

On a separate note, damn, tourists wear some ugly crap.

  5. I thought about going there, but it didn't pan out. The architecture is really nice. What's the inside like?

Some of the woodwork is really beautiful, but on the whole, it's sort of a weird experience. After the Hawaiian monarchy was overthrown, all of the original contents of the palace were auctioned off. Over the decades, they've managed to track some of it down or reproduce it from old photos and other records, but some stuff is just... gone. There are empty spaces for them, but the actual objects aren't there. It makes the place feel incomplete, which I guess it is. It's definitely worth it to take the tour, just to hear about the history of the islands, the royal family and the building.

  6. "They're work boots and some mis-stitches are to be expected and adds to the boot's rugged character."

Seriously? Wow. I've read several people's experiences with Alden's approach to customer service, but this kind of attitude still amazes me. Everything they sell is north of $300, yet they still think people should have to accept questionable quality without a peep. Even if it was only missed stitches, that's a load of crap. Adds to the character, my ass.

  7. Wow, your family friend has some impressive boots. Too bad they're all battered and cracked to hell. Maybe some TLC could restore them. I especially love the sole on the first 2 pairs- those are hobnailed heels in the first, right? And the black pair has a steel shank and fully nailed soles. Man, that's straight out of the 1800s. Third pair is awesome, too. I like the snap down cover for the zipper head. Nice touch. I'd love to get a pair like that.

  8. Damn, this thread is killing me. All the info makes me want to go through my entire pile of tees to figure out what I've got, but I'm reading while I'm out of town for work, so I only have 3 tees with me. Frustrating!

Bill, since you really know your shit, I have a quick question for you: I have a shirt with side seams and it skewed several inches after a couple of washes. Classic STF leg twist looking stuff. What causes that in a shirt? I'd provide a pic, but that's one of the many tees at home, not here in the hotel with me.
