  1. jackg's comments up about america made me think about my time here and the differences between USA and AUS.

i'm leaving america tomorrow to go home to Aus after studying in Boise for 4 months and travelling reasonably extensively down both east and west coastlines. Granted i didn't really go to the south (houston and san ant) I don't really think America is _that_ much worse than Australia re:fat people. The major differences and causes in my eyes were that a) fast food is literally overflowing in almost every city/town/truck stop/highway, b ) its fucking cheap and c) everything here has sugar or sugar substitutes (corn syrup).

I would almost guarantee Australia would be worse if prices and availability were the same. The corn syrup thing i just don't understand, holy fuck i have never craved a piece of nice bread so much in my life. This shit is literally in everything from drinks to bread and..fucking everything.

Obviously i haven't seen the hotspots but i've talked with fellow students who studied in Florida and the middle states and they agreed that the younger population of Americans (~25, those still in college) are actually in a lot better shape. Honestly it shocked me that everyone wasn't fat when i got to college. I think there is a decent culture of sport and a healthy lifestyle (maybe not a diet) but when people start leaving college and landing jobs they just quit being active all together. I see Australia as a nation where the adults are generally quite active and playing sport is a big part of life even if its just a casual soccer or cricket game with your mates weekly.

These are just my observations of a admittedly fairly brief exposure to the US.

  2. Have black urban slims, favourite pair of pants. The fit, cut and tech aspect are all really great. Hiked in em, rode in em and just everyday pants. They aren't super breathable for warm days but that's not a big deal. Really wanted a grey pair but they aren't doing any more grey runs. i guess ill get climbers instead after all the positive reviews in here.

    Really great brand.

  3. that was a really good superbowl though, the halftime and the blackout just added too it. flacco played great and kaepernick, after he got over the jitters was great as well. Im kinda glad ray lewis is gone though, never really dug him that much, too me hes a too much, comes across as fake.

  4. an hour of 30 second sprints, holy shit i would be chundering all over what ever surface i was running on haha.

been tryna run whilst roadtripping the states squeezed in runs in yosemite, grand canyon, san fran and the oregon coast. really enjoying running again, had forgot how great a way it is to see places.

  5. Just look for some plans to work up. Most importantly if your sore it's probably best to skip a day. Try increasing your weekly mileage not mileage each run, that way you can vary it during the week and be more flexible with weather and recovery.

preventing injury is IMO, more linked to proper warming up and cooling down, stretching and rolling. Seriously foam rollers are amazing , PVC pipe works just as well but hurts like woah the first couple times. Especially on your ITB

Most tights will do what you need, compression has added benefit but are expensive than just thermal tights. Most importantly make sure they fit well and dont fuck up your crotch.

Nike has some cheap ones, 2xu and skins are both brands I have used as well. Both the 80 and 120 dollar pairs I have had have been pretty decent.

  6. Do it. It will be the best thing you ever did. You will regret not going, if u can speak English and French you can tutor it. The kids bring you their homework or u just go and have coffee and talk. Meeting people is not hard as a foreigner at a university. Don't worry about the cash, it's replaceable, the opportunity isn't.

  7. Good on u dude. Just keep plugging away, even if u don't feel like running one day just go for less time intensive like hill sprints or some intervals. Should break up the boredom and help you gain distance, aerobic capacity and muscle strength.

Full length compression tights are pretty good for two reasons. They are warmer and help keep a bit of the water etc off but they also help recovery (for me anyway) my musclrs never really get as sore. They are good in summer post run to put on when u go to bed or rest.

  8. i like that they provide some interesting pieces that are basically cheap carbon copies of stuff. if you ever wanna fuck around with fair isle cardigans or coloured sweaters you can buy a 29.90 one before you drop 10x that on a nice piece. and yeh, they do basic's right. hopefully the e-store doesn't drop their quality even further than it has done over the past 5 years.
