  1. ^They will be very interesting to see, indeed, Paul. I think people are finally realizing that when Roy comes out with something, they better jump on it quickly! He's apparently not even making the two previous cuts anymore...

Doc- Glad to hear you are ok! I have yet to have an accident on my motorcycle, aside from dropping it during my riding exam :P

There has got to be someone not living up to their end of the bargain that can hook you up.

Judging from Sweapea's MF photos, I'm guessing she's about a 28W. Did anyone order that small??

Speaking of missing contestants (updated version):

Man, I completely forgot some of those guys were even in the contest.

I survived the first day of my class yesterday, but it was so crazy that I forgot to take photos! The Roys did well... Expect some nice photos from up in the mountains this next weekend.

  2. Tonight, my Roys and I are enjoying a beer, burger, and outdoor concert with a friend right next to the nature center where my new class starts tomorrow morning!! I'm mostly excited, but a little bit anxious. I've been planning it for months, so I'll just be so happy for it to finally start.

  3. 1878 Pantaloons. Best I could do with self timer. I think I like the way they fit but I'm definitely going to put suspenders on them just to keep the waist up more.

Thanks for the photos! Those look much better sized properly, rather than oversized. I really like the rivets on them as well...

  4. I think the fit on the vest looks good, but it woul dbe good to see it with a tucked button down from a better angle.

coal miner pants - wonder what cloth they are using - denim, duck, anyone know?

Looks like charcoal duck. I like them a lot, although I'm trying to go a little less workwear these days...

  5. It's time to do a little closet cleaning, and put a few things up for sale that don't fit me. PM me if you have any questions. Thanks!

All prices include shipping via USPS First Class with delivery confirmation and insurance in CONUS. Paypal only.

Nom de Guerre Khaki Buckleback Utility Jeans in size 34W - $65 shipped

Made in Japan from Japanese selvage denim. These are lighter weight twill, so perfect for summer. I've worn these jeans many times, but they are still in good shape. There is a little wear on the edges, as creases have been set for a while and they are starting to fade some. They've been hand washed several times. Retail on these was $330.

Waist: 34" (Do not expect more stretch out of these)

    Front Rise: 11"

    Back Rise: 16"

    Inseam: 33"

    Hem: 9"

  6. Hell yeah, cash! Great photos, and yeah, it was totally random. Whenever I had a break in registering teams, I would sit back and look at everyone nervously preparing and think to myself: "Bunch of damn crazy people!" :)

I wish this wasn't the busiest time in a couple years for me or I would bring my daughter down to SLC more. there's always time for late summer/autumn meets, yeah?

hahah zissou, too comical the shot of you throwing your daughter in prison. fun times with the young one. you look like you have lost weight. have you?

It was a great time, indeed. We got home tonight, and I was happy to realize that we still have a weekend, after feeling like we spent a weekend exploring. Nah, I haven't lost weight lately- I've always been a skinny guy. Maybe I am just wearing less layers now that it's summer?? :)

    More photos to come tomorrow...

And thanks for the nice +rep note, Heech!

  7. Running into a comrade in ROYs was a great way to start the race. Zis has the inside track on those chambray skivees.

You'll forgive the expression on my face -- this was a combination of a hangover, too much caffeine and nerves about the race. I need to gather photos from people in a handful of locations, but a race post is coming.

Missed this earlier... Damn, starting that race with a hangover?? All of my friends said that the running was no problem, but the sleep deprivation killed them. They were all zombies that night. Let's see some photos!

I'm in full scouting mode for my new class that starts 7/1. It will focus on mountain ecosystems in Utah, and its the last of three courses that I've had to develop over the past few years. It's always a ton of work, so it's a relief to have the class actually start.

So, my daughter and I spent the day in Park City scoping out some hikes, chatting with trip leaders, and visiting the Park City Museum. Park City made its mark as a silver boom town after it was discovered in 1868. The museum commemorates the mining history and early settlement of the town.

After all that work, I had to head to the general store for some more Fels Naptha to wash my Roys.

My daughter was misbehaving, so I threw her in jail for a few minutes. (The museum was built around the old city hall, which has the original Territorial Jail in the basement)

    Doesn't look too comfortable!

Now I just have to Redjester her by writing her name on the wooden staircase.

The cellmate next door is Morse Barker, who's been doing time since 1937.

Ah, I gave in and let her out. We're hanging out in the hotel room now, me on one bed, and her jumping on the other...

  8. Your Roys look amazing, dkatz. The pre-wash photos look downright nasty :)

My Roys and I volunteered for the Ragnar Wasatch Back Relay this morning. It starts in my town and runs 191.7 miles up through the Wasatch Mountains and ends in Park City. Each person runs three legs of ~5-7 miles over the course of the race, which runs continuously for around 20-36 hours, depending on how fast the team is. There were 1127 teams of twelve people in the race!

I have a group of good friends racing, so I gladly offered to be one of their three volunteers. My job was to check in teams as they arrive. Here are my Roys looking official.

    a02c85a4.jpg

Many of the teams come up with amusing costumes. I saw one team all dressed as Captain Underpants, another was all fluorescent cavemen??

    84c5abdb.jpg

Some of the names were pretty funny as well. As I read one team's name- The Third Leg is the Hardest- I paused, and then burst out laughing.

    bf2851b4.jpg

It was a beautiful day for it! Perfect temperatures.

    f81830bc.jpg

As one of the teams was checking in, I saw this one guy and thought, "Hey, is that guy wearing a kitenge bandanna??" Apparently, he thought, "Hey, that guy's jeans look pretty good!" Then there was a pause....

HEY!! It was cash! Despite living just 100 miles from each other, we hadn't met up yet. My life has been so busy lately that I hadn't been down to SLC much at all in the past 5 months. It was great to finally meet, albeit briefly... so random. I did give him a little bit of a hard time for not running in the Roys ;)

  9. If you are looking for style or how nice your butt looks in pre 1940s LVCs unless you seriously undersizing them its probably not the best place to be looking for that. These early Levis were for the most part work cloths and meant to be such not fashion statements. I'm a guy that loves wearing my 209 coveralls and my 1911 333s and I usually I wear'm raw for months and months till I can't stand them so that how good does my butt look fit is not what its all about for me and if its for you probably the pre 1940s LVCs are not fgoing to be the right fit.

I knew I should have included the disclaimer that I love the fits up through 1910. That is, except for the pantaloons, which should be more than apparent by now. Enjoy them!

  10. Skinny legs - big butt - what were those 1878 designers thinking of?

I realize this is tongue in cheek, but based on your photos of the early production model, I was expecting something more like the trousers in the 1873 patent drawing. I now realize I was wrong, and apologize if my disappointment has ruffled some feathers...

  11. Levi's definitely deserves respect for thinking outside the box. They have put out so many great creations through LVC. I'll admit that my criticism stems from disappointment that they don't seem to look more like what was in the original patent (granted, this is just a line drawing, so who knows how they really fit).

    OR2Ei.jpg

I wouldn't say that they are modeled after dress trousers, as they seemed to be rather full fitting as well. As far as I understand, pantaloons were roomier in the seat to be comfortable in the saddle, with slim legs to fit inside of riding boots. Still, if the 1800's LVCs were not as popular, I think these will be even less so.

  12. It pains me to say it, but I still think it looks terrible. I'd be happy if someone could show me other fits that would change my mind.

    h4zsn.png

It looks like they stuck the butt of the 1873 on the legs of a 1947. I really think it needs a fuller cut overall- something like the AB Efelts from Rising Sun.

    FhON7.jpg

  13. The workwear argument always makes me laugh. All it comes down to is that we wear what we like. The fact that any of us are even on here means that we spend too much money on clothes or at very least pay too much attention to what we wear. Yes, that even includes the dudes who 'don't care'.

  14. If you wear them like they're made to be worn they are high waisted so no diaper butt at all, And again how they fit A is not how they fit B. As you can see by the photos of the models. The model at cultizm is exactly how mine fit. The model at the other place posted is wearing a pair that way to big on him. And again if they shrink like other Japanese denim LVCs I've owned there isn't much shrinkage.

Sorry if you have already posted them, but do you have any photos of your fit?

  15. I'm surprised (and disappointed) by how slim the legs are on the pantaloons. I would have expected a fuller cut like in the 1873 patent drawing. I can see these looking like fairly slim jeans with a huge diaper butt in relatively short order.
