  1. The loopwheeled sweaters have been changed from past seasons. They're a hair slimmer in the shoulders and 2" longer in the length, the fabric is also slightly different and feels a bit softer on the outside.

This is all very good news. They're seriously the best sweatshirt I've found, but the fit was a little boxy on me.

  2. I think your neighbor's dog is a shiba inu? That's the exact dog I am thinking of getting soon :)

My Roys and I stopped by the local denim shop (that only sells Nudie, G-Star, and Acne jeans), and the sales assistant told me that my Roys "have a great wash". I had to inform him that they were raw when I got them, and there is about 8-9 months of wear on them. Then I had to explain the enigma of ROY to him and his eyes just glazed over.

  3. Renn Fests are always good for some laughs. Great update, ADH :)

I'm heading out of town for a week-long conference that I've been organizing. So far, I have lost three nights of sleep over it. If I somehow do not survive, I want to be cremated in my Roys, and as many layers of Mister Freedom as will fit on my dead body. Have a great week, everyone!

  4. Brilliant update, Mr. Hill :)

This thread's been quiet for a while! My Roys and I just bought tickets for my daughter and me to visit the east coast for a couple weeks next month! I'll be spending a lot of time with family on Cape Cod and the CT coast. I'm going to try to make it to NYC for a day or two, but we'll have to see. Watch out, ThisSunday!

  5. You guys seriously need to get on the MF Facebook page if you aren't already. There's all kinds of cool stuff there, including photos of the new lines and a Lot 44 Californian contest that a shop in PDX is running.

  6. Ooh, I think I know who it is!

Thanks, Heech. By the way, you guys shouldn't sell yourselves short! There's still a full third of the contest left. Markus, yours are looking as great as any of the contenders so far. Roy, send me enough of those Voodoo donuts, and my jeans won't fit anymore ;)

  7. My good friend Bob asked me to stop by his friends house last week to help him replace a few shingles on her roof. Little did I know what I was getting myself into...

You screwed that roof anchor into the ridge, right, Bob?

    49772445.jpg

It was so steep that I had to dangle on the rope so I could use my hands.

    Just don't look down!

OK, three more shingles to replace.

I nearly peed in my Roys on this last bit. Would have made for a nice yellow patina.

Got down off the roof very carefully, and promptly drank two bottles of beer. Real fast.

  8. My scything skills are unmatched, especially with a few beers in me.

  9. robbie- I'll PM you.

Here we are at 8 months, after the fourth hand wash and a couple days of wear. Home renovation work has slowed now that I've sold the old house. But, my good friend Bob did have me on an adventure the other day. I'll post photos when I can get them from him. My quest for vintage style fades continues...

  10. Thanks for the kind notes and reps, all.

It was a wonderful trip- one of those adventures where you know you come back a better person, with greater bonds to the one(s) you love.

Loving the Portland photos, roy6! The chicken portraits make me smile, and the donuts make me damn hungry.

  11. This looks like a good lunch spot. By the way, the Rock Glacier is the only glacier in the state of Nevada, and Utah has no glaciers...

While we were eating lunch, I was keeping my eye on the sky and noticed some grey clouds whisping over the peaks. Time to head down, but not before we leave a message in the snow.

    P1050936.jpg

Good thinking, as the skies opened up just as we got back to the trail head. Made for a pretty storm, though.

With double rainbows over the Great Basin.

Well, it was time to head home after a fun week, but I think we have time for one more adventure. About halfway back, literally in the middle of nowhere, we took a left turn onto a dirt BLM road. Twenty two miles later, we arrived at a vast shale quarry.

    P1060028.jpg

Fifteen dollars got us each a rock hammer and two hours in the quarry...

    P1060021.jpg

    P1060024.jpg

...to search for trilobites! We wound up with lots of small ones, but Em found a beautiful one that was about four inches long.

    P1060027.jpg

OK, now it's really time to head home. I think we have just enough water, beef jerky, and diesel to make it. Until next time!

  12. Alright, enough lazing about. Time to get serious! At this point, we'd been in the park for four days, which I figured was plenty of time to acclimate to the altitude. I had saved the tough hike for just this moment. Up at treeline, our destination was in view- the base of Wheeler Peak, Nevada's second highest mountain.

    P1050797.jpg

Who needs trees? Onward and upward!

    P1050872.jpg

    OK, whatever you say!

    P1050874.jpg

I gotta say, Em was a champ.

    P1050868.jpg

On the way up, we had a chance to explore a grove of bristlecone pines, which live in the most inhospitable high mountain ridges for thousands of years. So beautiful.

    P1050952.jpg

Even the dead trees remain standing for thousands of years. The tree rings from the living and dead trees allow us to to glimpse at the Earth's climate as much as 10K years back.

    P1050907.jpg

Hot damn, we made it! Our destination was the Rock Glacier at 10,800 ft in elevation. It was 2.4 miles of hiking (each way) and a climb of 1K ft from our campsite. It was the longest hike I've done with Em, and she was amazing! Not a single complaint. Maybe re-enacting the entirety of The Fellowship of the Ring distracted her a bit? (OK, in full disclosure, I did not wear the Roys on this hike. I've been caught in storms above treeline enough times to take the motto 'Cotton Kills' to heart)
