Fantastic jacket, eltopo. You need a hatchet in the other hand.

So I waited some more, taking in the deep, salty air. My time has almost come...
My plan to steal the Charles W Morgan was foiled when I realized she was up in dry dock for maintenance. The last wooden whaling ship in the world could have fetched a tidy sum on the Black Market.
My mind quickly formed a Plan B as I stared intently into the Morgan's blubber pots.
I grabbed hold of the rigging and swung off the starboard deck, landing smack next to the Joseph Conrad. She's a pretty ship, and she'll have to do!
Feeling quite smug, I dreamt of many days of pillaging and plundering to come.
All in a day's work, lads and ladies... all in a day's work.

I really dug the Mystic seaport as well.
Funny you should mention the Seaport. I worked there in the summer while I was in college. My job was, believe it or not, selling peanuts and popcorn. But, it involved taking care of and operating an enormous steam powered brass- and copper-clad popcorn wagon. The little steam engine powered the popper and the roaster, but I had to pull the wagon myself, of course. Last I heard, they weren't operating it anymore because "it was too hard to take care of". Little did they know that my contempt for their laziness would brew much greater troubles...
It just happened to be a beautiful day to visit the Seaport.
Strolling through town, I decided how I'd exact my revenge...
First order of business was visiting the ship's chandlery.
I had some supplies that I needed.
They were out of 2" cordage, so I had to go make me own.
Then off to the Cooperage for some barrels...
American chestnut! They don't make 'em like this anymore.
I had to wait for an opportune moment...
...and spent my last nickel on a pint of ale to calm the nerves.
The shipsmith was busy at work, but I knew he napped at lunch time.

I'm always up for some quality snaps. Are they solid brass? Do you know what the sizing is? I mostly use line 20 and 24.

^Where've you been, man? Good to see you around.
I'm sure it can be done if the shoe has some kind of a welted construction. Though, I would imagine it could be very difficult -to the point that it's not worth it.If you ask me, there is very little use for a storm welt other than aesthetics.
It was simply for aesthetics. They're Tricker's, so I'm guessing it shouldn't be too complicated? I'd like to add a storm welt and make the edge natural.

Thought this might be the best place to ask- Is it possible to add a storm welt to a boot or shoe that does not currently have one?

That absolutely nuts (in a great way) that they're offering the ranch blouse in so many denims. I'd be interested in seeing measurements at some point, because jackets like that are usually much too short on me.
Speedway jeans look great, flatpattern.

I started smoking for this contest.

Any recent leads on selvage for larger kids? My 8 year-old daughter finally wants "some jeans like Dad's", but I'm having a hard time. H&M and Levi's seem to just have jeggings or boot cuts, so I may just have to take her to get some 501 STFs at the local western shop.

You roys are not the result of slacking mister, they're awesome!
When I say 'baby them', I just mean by that I like the colour and the fades right now, and dont want to risk doing any of the jobs I'm doing on the house/garden to push me to wash them again before their final wash/soak at christmas. The depth of indigo colour in the cone denim is stunning.
.
Somehow I thought it was Roy6 who said that he was babying them, and I was shocked I can understand your thinking. I've been going back and forth between keeping them close to where they are now, and trying to utterly destroy them by the end of the year.

I've been waiting ages for Christophe to make some trousers out of a slate grey twill. I'm thinking the 44s will be my next pair of jeans, and would be happy to also buy some in grey.

You've been babying them? I saw your photos and instantly felt like a slacker. They're looking fantastic.
My Roys and I helped a friend install fiberglass insulation for a few hours today, and I remembered why I fucking hate installing fiberglass insulation. The Roys are disgusting and need another wash, so I'll post up some photos in a few days.

That is an amazing cabin, and you're making me homesick! I used to live just a half hour or so away from that area. What lake is that?
Edit: Oh, the Roys look good too.
Thanks! It was on Lake Wallenpaupak(sp?), which was so quiet in the off season.
great pics zissou, funny i had two vacations in arow, the last years at pokono Pa. great place. That is funny. I don't really think of it as much of a destination, although there are an awful lot of cabins ringing the lake.

We took some time to hold some starfish...
...and pet some sharks.
We wound up down the road in historic Stonington Borough. It's those quiet New England streets I also miss.
Another beautiful old library...
Our car broke down, so we had to catch an old New England teeter totter home.

After spending a few days at the cabin on the lake, my Roys, family, and I headed back to my home town of Mystic, CT, where we spent a few days. It was great to hit the old haunts- the coffee shop down the alley where I used to work, the record shop next door, the local library where I used to study in high school...
(they had the most beautiful wrought iron railed balcony around the second floor, but it looks like it disappeared to make more room for books )
Mystic had a wooden turning bridge over the river that burned up, so they replaced it with a great iron bascule (counterweighted) drawbridge in 1920. We got caught by it, which gave me just enough time to jump out of the car, grab a coffee, and get back before traffic started moving again.
I always feel compelled to stop by the old cemeteries. I truly miss the history of New England.
Some day, I'll have a mausoleum like this.
OK, enough boring stuff, says Em. Time to hit the Mystic Aquarium, where my older brother works. The sea lions are always popular. Apparently, the Aquarium helps the Navy train them for underwater recovery missions.
We could have spent hours watching them underwater. Definitely some of the most playful animals, I'd say.
The jellyfish were also mesmerizing.
Can't believe I forgot my harpoon.

After the mortar set up, I had to add a new layer of reinforced tar around the base, because the old tar had cracked quite a bit. I managed to keep it off the Roys.
They were a little worse (or better!) for wear after the job was completed.
Now that the hard work was done, I took some time to join the girls and my Dad down at the lake to catch lunch. Two sunfish and a perch was a tasty (but small) lunch for us!

Thanks, Daniel, robbie, and ranon. I find that vacation is good for me, and I should take them more often. And, markus, what's 'sourpuss' in German?
After the Cape, we headed west to the Pocono Mtns of Penssylvania, where my aunt and uncle have a cabin on a lake. They live in the UK, so in exchange for maintaining the cabin, my father and the rest of my family gets to stay there pretty much as often as they like.
I had to get outside after the long car ride.
On the steps down to the lake, looking back up.
There's still time to head down to the lake to skip some stones before the sun goes down.
Hello, sassafras. It sure looked and felt like autumn.
The cabin itself is rather idyllic- built in the 1940's, and not much updated since.
A sign by the ladder up to the loft has me curious...
Cousins playing games together. Seems ok to me
My Dad needed help repointing the mortar on the stone chimney because it had leaked quite a bit last winter. Most of a day took care of it pretty well...

Your grandpappy sure was a dapper fellow!
I've been on the east coast for the past week or so, but barely sitting still. We started out the trip on Cape Cod, MA, for a couple of days. It mostly rained, but we got out of the hotel for a little bit.
Making sure the shores are safe...
Exploring the jetty with Em.
And playing some mean mini golf.
During another rare moment of no rain, we went for a walk at the National Seashore. My daughter was snapping about 20 photos of me, and making me laugh.

(I had pretty much stopped reading Inventory, but) I'm definitely buying that issue! Congrats, guys!
I'm enjoying my time on the east coast, but it doesn't look like I'll make it down to NYC like I had hoped I'll post up some photos soon, but first I need to go buy a battery charger!
