  1. You're right, RNR. I didn't notice the 2x1.

That's a beautiful shirt, Roy6. I can't wait to see what it looks like after the summer.

Love that bag, PaulT! Beautiful duck and leather.

My Roys and I are moving into the new house this week! I dropped off the first car load of boxes this morning and got super excited. Now, if someone would just buy my old house... Surprisingly, only one person has come to see it so far. It's on a well-traveled road, and the fliers have been disappearing, so I would have expected more.

  2. ^Whatever, man. You have the only Roy ducks! :P

Got any closeups of the shirt, Roy6? :)

Robbie- I'm pretty certain that's chambray. If I'm not mistaken, oxford cloth typically as two warp and two weft threads twisted together prior to weaving, giving it a heavier weight. I'm really jealous of your finds! The antique shops around here are mostly full of utter shit.

  3. ^Hell, I just might even make a wallet for the first time ever.

Ziissou my two cents. You might want to stitch grove that thread. I have a feeling it is going to rub down really fast shorting the life of your case.

I've thought about doing so. Honestly, I carried a case with the cross stitching for almost two years, and never saw any fraying. It would make for a slightly cleaner look, though.

  4. On the home improvement front, I've been finishing up a few small jobs. I built this little phone cabinet with an outlet and phone jack, only to remember that I've been using just a mobile for the past 5- years.

I also reinstalled the transom mechanisms so they work again.

The last two rooms still needed outlets, lights, and switches, so I connected those up and had to connect each room to the main breaker box. Before I open it up, let's turn off the main power to the house, just to be safe.

Working by headlamp now, the white neutral wire goes to the neutral bus, the bare ground wire to the ground bus, and the black hot wire to the breaker, which snaps into the panel.

Close everything up, turn the power back on, and test the outlets- check.

    And lights- check!

aaaand, of course I forgot to take photos of the Roys, but I was wearing them the whole time...

  5. Wonderful photos the past few pages! I love that lineup of the old Levi's, farhad/Mike.

My Roys and I were out on a field trip for one of my programs last Friday. We were in a state park where a major river flows into a reservoir that supplies Salt Lake City. The river was flowing fast, but nowhere near peak. It's going to be a hell of a spring runoff this year!

I don't think I'll camp in this site!

Busy little beavers! It's amazing how quickly a beaver can fell a tree, chew it into 5ft sections, and push it into the water- about 2 nights.

    Oh, shit!!

  6. ALRIGHTY...! I RESOLVE TO USE AN AWL FOR MY WALLET THAT I'VE BEEN PLANNING TO MAKE.! :D

Haha, the punches work fine, but I just couldn't get one that had the right size blades and spacing that I wanted. Using an awl and spacing wheel allows for just the right combination. It does take longer, though. I think I even need to go with a smaller diamond awl so there isn't a small space between stitches.

What in the hell are you going to use that huge axe for?? Skinning the cows yourself??

  7. Really like the shell stuff, corter, and your wallets are always top notch, Theblackgoat.

I've changed my stitching up a bit, using a spacing wheel, diamond awl, and same heavy thread that I like. I'm happy with the results, although the last two stitches on the top left went wonky on me.

  8. Hey all,

I picked up these amazing Nigel Cabourn trousers, and sadly, they are much too small on me. They are the only pair that I've seen for sale outside of Japan, so I thought I would take a chance going down one size. I really wish these fit :(

Like most of the nicer Cabourn trousers, they were made in collaboration with ARN Mercantile. The material is a heavy grey covert twill, much like the salt and pepper work shirts, but heavier. As usual, there is beautiful detailing and construction. Made in England.

Retail was $600 (425 Euros). My price is $320>285 shipped in the US, Priority with tracking and insurance. International shipping adds $25. Paypal only.

    Waist: 30"

    Front Rise: 11.5"

    Back Rise: 16"

    Inseam: 37.5"

    Hem: 9.5"

Keep in mind that these are higher rise, so the waist should measure smaller than your low/mid rise jeans. If it helps, I have another pair of Cabourn trousers in 34W, and they fit great. I usually wear 32W jeans. These were 2" too small on me.

This isn't the shop I got them from, but they can be seen here

  9. What are you guys talking about? My original 7161s were also made in the US. The difference in the price of the Californians is likely due to the fact that they were made from NOS American denim, which was probably much cheaper than multiple types of 50/50 Sugar Cane denims. They are also a much more standard construction, not 'Frankenstein jeans', as Christophe described the 7161s.

  10. Thanks very much for the well wishes, everyone! It's been a very long, arduous journey to get to this point, so I am looking forward to starting a new chapter of life with my daughter in our new house. I've given up too much time that I could have spent exploring with her, or biking or skiing over the past several years.

I came home to this in front of my house, which made me smile (and inspired me to throw on my Roys and pick up pinecones)

$218000. Fuck I really wish Cali had similar prices. That house is a beauty! Good work zissou.

Believe it or not, the price is a little bit inflated even for here. I plan on having to come down a little. There have been a couple of times that I've almost moved from Utah to either Madison, WI, or Corvallis, OR, but the cost of living was so much higher in both places. Even with increased salaries, it would have been a pay cut.

This is either a stage name or this guy really doesn't take shit from anyone.

edit: forgot to say, Congratulations! And fantastic work/beautiful house Zissou! I've been enjoying watching your progress...

Thanks! Jette is actually a woman :) I keep telling myself that she was named after Joan Jett, which makes her pretty cool in my book.

Have to agree with everyone, the listing does look great. You can see mucho work has gone into that house. You must be feeling very proud of yourself? I know you'll feel better when it's sold:)

In the process of buying a house myself ATM, so will give something for the roys to get on with soon hopefully. Didn't want to say anything yet as dont want to jinx it, but should know by end of next week.

    .

Yeah, it's been a tremendous amount of work- probably 20x more than I thought it would be (no exaggeration), so keep that in mind :) Good luck in the purchase!

Looks great Zissou. Good luck. I too wish houses were priced like that here.... Something like that in my village would be getting on for £6-700,000

Wow, amazing! Maybe RNR can transport it in his time machine, and make me a bundle...

Kinda bizarre seeing an image I'm familiar with around here in another context:

Busted! Will my new house have enough natural light for WAYWTs? :(

Zissou....congrats and great job....I know you've been chipping away at the house for ages and you've really done a great job. I hope you get what you deserve out of it and you can go hog wild when the new MF Naval Tailor stuff comes out.

Interestingly, my half (:() of the equity will go right into the new house (trying to be responsible). Maybe I can buy myself some MF for xmas, though...

Epic post, cash! I still have not been to Boulder, but you've convinced me that I need to go. I've heard nothing but great things about Hell's Backbone Grill. I haven't been to SLC in ages, but I think I'll make a point of bringing my daughter down next month and we can have a family mini-meet.

  11. New collection is my favorite so far, it's a nice combination of all styles.

Half is made in Japan and half in USA. Construction is seriously good on the USA made stuff. Expect some great twists on classic denim styles.

Interesting to hear this. I'm assuming this includes some Naval Tailor stuff? I had thought I heard that it was dead after the midnight pea coat...

  12. My Roys and I got rid of a shit ton of junk today! Between the dumpster I rented, and my junk-collecting friend's two truckloads, I'm in pretty great shape. I've always tried to get rid of stuff, but the basement and garage have been hiding a lot from me. Then again, I have been in this house for about 8 years now...

  13. Beautiful bike, Doc! I'm looking forward to more photos soon...

I don't have much to report on my end other than that my Roys and I have been working our asses off trying to finish little things on the house. They've gotten pretty dirty and stinky lately, so I decided to wear my KMW 1950 bucklebacks to work this morning. They feel skin tight compared to the Roys! At first, I felt a little guilty (first time out of my Roys this year), but the feel of clean jeans on my legs helped me get over it :) I'll be back at the house work in my Roys this afternoon and evening, though!

The realtor stopped by yesterday in preparation for listing the house on Monday!

  14. I would be careful about burnishing with power tools- there isn't as much control. I just picked up one of these multi-size wood slickers from Tandy and am looking forward to using it. I'm in the middle of putting a couple coats of polyurethane on it so the dyes do not stain the wood.

    Beautiful tote, JAW.

  15. I feel like we just had a real bonding moment over tractors. More proof that the universe is more aligned when ROYs are worn.

Looks like a wonderful time with the kids, almostnice and docblue!

Lovely photos of the churches, dkatz...

My ROYs(+Key) and I are completely exhausted after a looooong weekend of working on the house. I got all of the trim primed, installed, and prepped in the hallway for my painter friend to paint tomorrow. It's Miller time.
