  1. I shot Victor and email two weeks ago and he said it's still going to happen and to remain patient. Sorry I don't have any more info, but I assume they're pretty busy in general. I also know they're doing some special stuff for Barney's 25th anniversary this fall. If you're looking for Cone denim, have you looked into Tellason?

  2. Adding an interesting KMW sample piece I picked up from Jay at Blue Owl for uber-cheap. And I can see why: the denim has a marbled-wash effect, which is appropriate since they're 1980s (*rimshot*). Anyway, I took a chance since it's a nice seasonal departure from the raws I'm usually sporting year-round. The details are all there, though the wash/whiskering process has faded the hardware and fabric. Consequently, these are also ridiculously soft.

  3. Hey all-- here are pics of the fantastic job Schaeffer's Garment Hotel did for my jeans. They're a great shop, and they offer discounts for sufu members. Hit them up if you need a hem or repair; you won't be disappointed.

I can't say enough good things about Robert and his crew at Schaeffer's Garment Hotel (aka The Denim Repair Shop). You all can see the "before" pics on another thread I posted in (ranting about a negative experience I had with the rep at Simon Miller). I contacted Robert and they basically took my jeans in and turned them around in a very reasonable amount of time (I got my jeans about 8 days later). Plus, they give sufu members a nice discount.

Below are the pics of their repair of a terrible repair job by Denim Therapy. It may not look like the original tab, but let me assure you, Schaffer's worked a virtual miracle in fixing the button-holes, tab, and reinforcing the flawed denim Simon Miller used for this particular pair. I couldn't be happier. If you're in need of a hem or repair, definitely hit them up. Super friendly and able to give you some options.

  5. Since this thread is old, I'll ask some of the newer posters. How do these jeans fit? DId you have to size up/down or stay tts? More pics would be nice. LFC, I'm not sure why we haven't heard more re: Chimala-- I guess it has something to do with the scarcity and price tag. I'm intrigued by the material/color, as I'm a big fan of the PRPS raw stuff.

  6. well, i've been wearing the barracudas for a few weeks now, really like them. the thighs have stretch a bit and definitely have gotten comfortable, however, they are still what I would consider snug. the waist is where the stretching is most noticeable as the label size 34" was measuring closer to a 35 1/2". I suspect it's now 36+ so it looks like time for a new belt. the funny thing, the extra waist girth is primarily in the back -- not so much the front unless I tug on them.

Yeah, it's a tough call on sizing for me as well. The quality of the denim is so friggin' amazing, I can't really complain-- only to note that when I've sized down, the thighs are way too tight and I can't button up all the way. I've decided to go with staying TTS as well and "suffer" with a little extra room. However, depending on the mood, I actually use the snaps to bring in the waist.

  7. I had similar problems with Bluefly and their inability to accurately post inventory on their website. I actually ordered the Ramblers and kept getting the Barracudas. I finally gave up (after 3 times) and got my money back.

  8. lefty's post links to the Selectism article with a link to Bows + Arrows, which a great little e-shop. The Raleigh Denim website lists stockists, but they don't have an online shop themselves. They're happy to sell you jeans if you swing by to visit, but I'd shoot them an email inquiry. A bit of fair warning-- they may not respond for a few days so don't lose patience. Victor mentioned that sometimes they will mark down some of the items based on quantity and such. That being said, I didn't pay the full $275 that these are priced at-- mainly because they literally had a handful of last season's Warren canvas pants in stock. Good luck!

I'm impressed with FSC's canvas pants from what I've seen of them-- I can't speak to the material itself since I've never held them in person, but the price point is very good, and they have a good reputation for quality. Those may be my next purchase.

  9. Not the best fit pics. Apologies for the warped color on some of these pics-- too lazy to fix, but you get the idea. I picked these up directly from the Raleigh Denim shop in downtown Raleigh. Victor & Sarah are incredibly nice people. I bought these at a special price as there were only a few left on their shelf. Diggin' the details (I am a fan of RD denim), especially the red chainstitch hem. These guys are super soft and you can see the texture of the fabric close-up... needless to say, I'm very happy with these.

  10. For the cycling enthusiasts (and wannabes like me) - these two companies are tops. Outlier NYC makes some of the best pants out of ridiculously quality materials that are both rugged and practical (even for the boardroom). I have their merino wool t-shirt as well and it is friggin' amazing. It never stinks up and is soft as all get out.

Cadence is a small outfit run out of SF and they make some really cool and interesting pieces. I have their "Sace" pouch made from waxed cotton and lined with wool. I use it to store my wallet and keys while riding.

  11. I know that some are you guys are pretty local to Roy, but for those of you that have had the jeans shipped, what have you experienced for timing?

I received mine within 2 business days from being sent CA to NC. I placed my order and sent payment about 2 days prior, so I'd say 4 days total. However, I'm sure the turnaround time will fluctuate for obvious reasons.

  12. I think it was definitely a rare instance. However, there was one other guy on Styleforum who had the same experience with the fraying (I posted this experience there, too). I believe it had to do the with the particular model Itself (Harlem). I've always felt the quality has been very good (+1 for dawei's post)-- I just won't buy another pair of SM as a matter of principle. It's one thing to say "Sorry, we can't replace your jeans" and another to say "We'd replace your jeans but the one you have would look cooler once you pay to fix our mistake". So if you're wanting a pair, I'd just inspect your jeans to make sure you don't have any reservations about its quality.

And if you have problems, don't expect Matty (who's listed on the SM homepage) to help.
