  1. I'll have to take about a hundred photos in the right light to get a single good photo with my CoolPix...that's how bad I am with photography (I use instagram to help make my photos look decent). Will post pics of the leather soon. In mean time, I picked these up at the local 100 yen shop this evening

  2. After hemming these up and while adjusting the buckle on the back of my new Can't Bust Em's, I noticed "Sugar Cane" on the back of the buckle. That explains the "nubby" fabric.

These Boss of the Roads also came from the same store and have all identical hardware, however, don't display any maker's mark. Does anyone have some background info on when the company made these items?

  3. Need Mr. Freedom expert opinions. Just enough dough for one pair. Britches Chaparral in brown, or Rider's Dungarees? I'll probably have to do a 'denim doctor' on the riders since I have a 31" inseam, but it won't dissuade me. I have a lot of denim but these are so different and kick ass. I also need brown duck in my life. Any Chaparral owners or owners of both that can help me decide? Thanks. Steve

I can't talk on the BC's, but I very much like my RD's. I love how the Sugar Cane fabric wears and when hemmed to taste, the

    silhouette is second to none.

  4. ^ I went back to pick up the Can't Bust Em's and they are a bit too long for me. I'm thinking of hemming them, but before I do I wanted to offer it up if someone's interested. It has Can't Bust Em suspender buttons, buckleback, one-piece fly and the typical Japanese one-wash and lightly distressed look. Measures 29x34.5

Also, there's another pair of Boss of the roads in a size 28 left in the store.

These are early Japanese reproductions and are not longer produced.

  5. So what did you get outta the trade???

=) I'll post them on the blog when they come in.

For those of you in LA I found a pair of vintage 1960 Built-Rite (I think thats what they are called) at the Wasteland on Melrose. They were selling them for $150. I'm not sure how good they are but I guess they came from the Ralph Lauren vintage collection at RRL down the street where they were retailing for $1500. Not sure if they were worth that, but $150 seemed like a pretty good deal. I really wanted to pick them up but they were a lot big. Probably around an 11 or 11.5.

You shoulda picked them up - that sounds like a good item to flip.

  6. Decided to move these out...

    buco+rm.JPG

Boy, I've received like a million and one offers for the boots! However, there was one offer I just could not refuse - a trade. That said, the Buco's are no longer available.

Thanks folks! Not sure, at the moment, if I'm feeling froggy enough to offer the Becks or RRL's...or the Glow-in-the-darks...or...

    Cheers!

  7. At the high end+ of your price range, you can have a pair of Viberg's made with double mid-soles. I'd say WESCO's, but they've raised their prices.

If one is dead set on a certain pair of boots, they'll totally be able to obtain them. That 400-600 can be put toward the actual goal pair...with just a little bit of patience rather than an "interim" pair.

I speak from experience. I never purchase on credit - I like to buy my things outright and if it takes an extra week or two for that holy grail item, then so be it.

    Good luck!

  8. whoa! I can't believe your selling them. I figured that would be a pair you'd never let go. I'm guessing you want the Lofgren HH boots, so these are gonna help pay for the them. Crazy, I love those Bucos.

I can't believe I'm selling them either. Oddly, it has nothing to do with the Lofgren boots. I was sitting there last night and decided it's time for a rotation.

Wow MB, that's a steal right there. Especially when the patina is starting to look good. Its so true regarding the leather, tough as sh**. probably got a million offers already.

I think it's a great deal since I did all the "heavy lifting" giving it that patina. that picture on my blog is the boot actually balancing on the other =)

can i fit in what mb is selling? i wear a 8.5E on whites

The boots are a little big on me. Over the years I've purchased quite a few boots bigger than my size just because they looked too amazing to pass up. this pair is one of them. I normally wear a 7 1/2 to 8, but these fit like a 9'ish +/-

Curse your feet MB, I would jump on those if they were my size.

If anyone is looking for super detailed measurements, let me know.

  9. Brand: The Real McCoy's

    Model: Buco BA6010-030

    Color: Black

Size: 8 1/2DMeasurements (approximate): Length (heel against wall to furthest tip): 12" Width (at its widest point in the ball area): 4 3/16"

    Soles: Cat's Paw Half-Sole

    Heels: Cat's Paw

    Leather: Horsehide

Hardware: Nickel Buckles and Double Brass Rivets per Boot

    Price: $550

Contact me at: [email protected] if interested.

Condition: These boots are built like tanks. The Horsehide is like nothing I've handled before. You can hold your hand out with palms facing up and literally balance the boots upside down without the leather collapsing - this leather is that tough!

Used regularly, but not abused (no forced patina/wear here, folks). I've treated them with Pecards Antique Leather Dressing three times since purchase.

  10. Mine ended up at 29" inseam length, but I wish it had been 28". Oh well. I think I'll buy the Midnight Riders and do the same with them. John, can you tell us how you defeated the rivet? I'm guess you cut it somehow, but we'd love to know. Also, do you plan on doing the same hemming with your chino riders now? :)

It took me two needlenose pliers, lots of patience working the two pieces apart and caution against inadvertently tearing the denim. One thing you have to ensure is to have all the (verticle) stitching around the rivet is "ripped" off. When you think you you're still struggling with the rivets, it may just be stitching keeping the two parts together.

I am going to do the same with my Chino Riders. I pulled them out of the closet the moment I was done with my Dungarees :) I can't wait.

my tailor said he couldn't move the rivet

If you're heart set on having your Riders modded, I recommend removing the rivetes yourself. Once the rivets are removed, though, they're pretty much all mangled and rendered unserviceable.

  11. You are welcome john! Your blog has influenced me a lot and given me a lot of knowledge, so I'm glad I could return the influence . Your pair looks perfect on you! I'm glad you did it, the short length is perfect. The fit pic of mine looks kinda dumpy, I should have worn boots for the pic, not wallabees. The waist stretched out quick and they sat kinda low on my hips in the pic. The length looks shorter with boots and a belt, but I still wish I had hemmed them 1" shorter than I did as yours look exactly how I wanted mine. The picture of Cottonduck wearing his short on his site are what influenced me originally.

Thanks! yours looks fine, btw. Now that you mention it, I do remember digging Cottonduck's length way back before I even owned mine. I think his fit that way sans hemming due to his height. that's the glory of being able to do your own hemming. I sized it up so many times before I settled on the length I wanted.

hi marinebilly whta was the inseam on your jeans after the hemming?

    I ended up with 27 1/2" inseams.

  12. I really like the length of this guys jeans, so I tried to mimick it on my Rider's. For a guy with minimal sewing machine skills, I'm super stoked about the outcome. Now I just have to find two rivets to replace the old ones.

    Thanks for the inspiration attackwithstones.
