  1. Fingers crossed then that the new 1922 uses the same denim at the 1915. The lack of belt loops kept me from giving the 1915 any serious thought.

the fabric definitely looks really familiar and I think the 1922 looks really nice.

but...$347USD for the new 1922 - I hope thats just hanon's prices and not a indicator of what is to come.

that blanket lined type 2 is priced out of this world. almost $500USD. wtf??

I'm still holding out hope for a regular denim type 2 though. that doesn't cost 500 bones.

  2. Just swung by Cinch.

They are selling off their last raw 1915 from tomorrow am. Good range of sizes apparently. Half price, namely £110. No one knows if they will be produced again. So if you want them, jump now. As had been pointed out, this is some of the nicest fabric on LVC (or any cinchback model), bar none.

Sadly, the 1937 is going too.

Incidentally, the replacement for the '15 is the 1920s redline model, with beltloops. No clue if it's any different from the last one.

dang. I'm really tempted to get another pair of those. I absolutely love the ones I have. Details and stitching are the best I've seen on LVC. except for the cinch...

Its a shame about the 37. Kinda strange they dropped that one.

  3. I neglected to take any photos of the trip to the beach or on the actual beach cause I wasn't thinking and didn't take my phone to the water. but these are the after beach sunburn dinner time photoset, which was just as fun.

We left Fort Macon's beach access headed for the historic coastal town of Beaufort, NC. We were hell bent on some delicious seafood.

  4. pics from fathers day and beach trip yesterday

My dad's really gotten into japanese gardening. He makes trips to japan a lot for work and gets to see the real deal a lot, and hes kinda made his own hobby out of turning our backyard into a garden. So for father's day he wanted to go to Duke Gardens in Durham NC. For some reason, he'd never been there.

I brought my bike with me in case of bike ride while at my parent's house. My brand new bike rack on it's second voyage.

  5. I don't think we're going to see a reduction to 2007/8 prices any time soon.

I think $200 is fair. I've bought a few from cultizm on sale for 200+20 for shipping, and I definitely think the 1915s were a fair buy for that price. I think they're the best made LVC I've owned. the 1955s however, I disagree with. I think the fabric is pretty awesome, but that silk screened pocket thing is really stupid and I dont know about the quality of the hardware.

I also really like the weird stuff and the early models. I hope they don't quit on those. the pantaloons aren't really my thing, but I'm glad they made them.

I think someone mentioned cultizm not stocking the older models anymore? maybe I made that up.

as for the washes: I really think they should give up on those. I have seen a few that looked pretty realistic and cool, but I think that the mediocrity and downright garbage that makes up the majority of the washed clothing outweighs the good ones.

most of the washed jeans end up on ebay or on sale for years on the cultizm website or blackbird or whatever.

  7. Erk,

from my opinion, you just might have wanted to keep your C Width and switch the last on your Semi Dress to their "Swing" last

vs. the standard 55 Semi Dress last that you have.

I tired a pair on in the Swing last in my same exact size and def felt a different experience.

it was to much for me personally.

The Swing last is cut the same in the heel, but wider in the Toe-box area.

you can ask Denim Junky, i believe he has both to compare, and give you an opinion..

as far as the Semi Dress vs the Smoke Jumper for a better fitting lace instep area on you.

i would NOT suggest you a Smoke Jumper because they tend to have a closer laces gap cut vs. the Semi Dress which is a further spread gap.

    hope some of this helps..

for the semi dress I do think the swing last would have been the best option for my toe, but I just dont like the way it looks. I'm pretty satisfied with the fit I have on the 10.5 D overall. just nitpicking I guess. Its even better with my winter socks - and I hardly wear my boots in the summer so this is no biggy.

From what I was told over the phone about the smoke jumper is that the width at the ball of the foot is basically the same at the toe, which is what I need. I think the SJ last would provide a snugger fit with a roomier toe without going to the swing last.

  8. That's really a small gap from what I have on mine. I'm noticing I wish the toe box was a tad bigger as I can see my big toe wiggle on the side of the boots...

Looks like it's a huge difference from a C to a D....? Does the heel get a lot bigger also?

it definitely does. I think it was a better fit in the heel with the C, but I didn't have enough room for my toes, which I think is worse. I may have to go with a spenco insole for the warmer months...so far its ok though. So far they're not uncomfortable at all and my feet feel great. Not much of a break in period I guess.

I think the semidress last just really isn't that great of a fit for me, I probably should have gone with the smoke jumper...which I've been thinking about getting in that dress brown. maybe I'll get some birthday money next week that'll open some doors for me.

White's suggested a 10.5 D on the smoke jumper last as well.

  9. so my replacement white's are in.

went up to a 10.5D instead of C - I've got plenty of room in the toes now, but I'm having to lace it up pretty tight around the instep. Its a little better with my winter socks on, but I guess this is the way its gotta be.

here you can see how tight these are laced. kinda sucks :(

    5809711627_e6569b34d9_z.jpg

  10. They're basically shrinking to tagged size at the waist. Probably makes it easier to get non-sufu LVC buyers fitted.

Except they sell every pair with a brown tag attached that tells them to buy 2 inches larger in the waist. I'd think non sufu people might take that to heart and end up with balloon pants.

  11. yeah mine are angled, but Paul is right.

mine are angled as well, but that picture seems to be more of an exaggerated angle. especially when compared with the other pair pictured on havenshop.

its not like it matters though. too much of an angled coin pocket isn't going to be anyones deciding factor on these jeans. and this all could be explained as product variation.

I'm trying to plan a trip up to NYC to do some tourist type stuff with my lady friend. I never get to that stuff when I'm up there. Hopefully I'll get to stop by the meatpacking store and see this new batch in person.

  12. found a good comparison between the 2010 and the 2011 production 1947:

The pictures at havenshop probably show the 2010 run:

    http://havenshop.ca/collections/levis-vintage-clothing/products/1947-501xx-rigid

And here the 2011 model:, its another camera (etc), but mine also has, as I said, the small selvage an the LVC print on one of the front pocktes. difference in color compared to the first link's pretty obvious and just like I saw it:

    http://www.superdenim.co.uk/prodpage.asp?productid=702

farhad and thomas, are your coin pockets all whacky like the superdenim one?

  13. Maurizio did a good job making RRL a destination stop at least for Japanese and European tourists in NYC. More than a few times I've seen them hit the RRL on Bleecker St. in good size groups. I've heard they also make the Melrose and Malibu stores a destination stop in LA.

LVC is far from exclusive in NYC now being available in a couple of Levi's stores, Brooklyn Denim and J Crew. BTW, I had the chance to see the latest batch of LVC '44's and '55's at the Meat Packing store and wasn't impressed with the current batch of Cone denim. The weight of the denim is lighter and thinner than older runs and not nearly as dark.

here it is. a few pages back. wasn't impressed by the current batch of cone at the meatpacking store in NYC.

  14. Just got a new 47 501 from 2011. "Made in the USA-tag" is now attached to and bundeled with the care advice (if i may say so). Denim is really gray and looks quite cool compared to a recent 55 i own or older 47s. Also the back pockets are more squarish (but I think this also was true for the 2010 run). Pictures taken with 3G iPhone..second pic shows the color quite well.

    foto1yx.jpg

Wow that fabric looks a lot different than previous seasons. Looks kinda like what crownzip may have mentioned a couple pages ago.

ThomasK, have you soaked the jeans yet? If so, what are your impressions? They seem pretty light in color, but I guess that could mostly bs starch. Please post some more pics.

Paul, have you had any oppurtunity to look at the new denim for 2011?

  15. those look good. my only gripe is the lack of chain stitching on the cuffs. it really stands out. levis should go back to that for all their 501's. i don't see why they quit doing it to begin with. it couldn't save them anything except a little thread. maybe it was because they had to replace the old machines. Paul would you know why chain stitching the cuffs was abandoned in the first place?

that doesn't bother me nearly as much as the double stitched inseam. I think it just looks bad and not like a 501.

  16. i think those are post-soak. he's a friend of mine and i tried to help him out with the soaking as much as possible.

from the pics he sent me, his pair is slightly more fitted than most i've seen. it looks good though.

oh ok. I was thinking that was presoak.

  17. Happy Hooligan,

Have you talked to White's at all about your problem?

When I called them and spoke to Rob about my fit problems they offered me a lot of options which seem to go a lot farther than just a boot stretcher.

they can stretch them out a full width without rebuilding the boot. they somehow stuff the next larger width last back inside the boot.

also, I don't know if you're opposed to spending some more money on them, but they can rebuild the boots on a larger last in both width and length. I'd try giving them a call.
