  1. So I ordered my first pair of sd's directly from whites. Went with brown chrome excel, lowered block heel and double stitching. The process was pretty painless. I made my foot tracings and sent them a copy with all my specs. I stayed in contact with mark who I believe is the one in charge of all orders. Really nice guy who never seemed bothered with my check ins. I received the boots yesterday after about 5 weeks. Now I know why there's so much love for them here.

Unfortunately, there's not a totally happy ending. When I ordered I assumed that when I speced a single midsole and a leather sole that I would end up with 2 layers of leather in the forefoot. As you can see in the pics they ended up making a single leather sole. I called white's immediately and was passed from mark to rob. He checked with the manufacturing dept and deduced that it would be easier for them to just make a new pair with the double leather sole than tear up the pair I received. They're sending me a shipping label and my new pair is in the works right now. Rob couldn't have been nicer about the misunderstanding. I can't say enough about how well I've been treated and highly recommend going directly through whites.

Btw, rob said he would be able to sell the old pair through their eBay store with no problem.

glad to hear they're getting it fixed for you. I'm still not sold on the block heel though.

    How was the fit?

  2. I sent the boots back today, along with a foot tracing. It seems they're gonna talk to white's about the sizing. Although the guy I talked to on the phone at bakers seems to think its possible to exchange them, Baker's actual policy online seems to state otherwise. I think I might be screwed. *fingers crossed*

  3. erk what size in Alden's do you wear? I just sent tracing of my feet to White's to get a fitting size from them.

I wear a 11.5 D in the 405. My foot measures 10.5 heel to toe on a brannock device and 11.5 - 12 heel to ball on a brannock. my width measures out to a B or C.

I did think it was a little strange that the size was so different from my alden size, but what I felt in the white's store was definitely a lot different from my experience today.

  4. Thanks for the help everyone. I'm thinking I'm going to send them back. Brandon from Baker's shoe said he would send me a return label and to send them back with a foot tracing and they'd figure out what to do. I've already got a white's catalog with the foot tracing deal, so I'll be putting that in the box with the boots.

It really sucks I have to send these back, they're totally awesome. the chromexcel leather is sooooo cool. I love it. Looks like its gonna be another 6 weeks til I can get another pair though.

  5. paging white's boots gurus:

I ordered a 10.5 C semi-dress based on what they fit me in at their factory/store in spokane.

I just received my pair and I'm a little concerned about the fit on my right foot.

My right foot is a tad bigger than my left and I was wondering about how your boots fit around the ball of the foot, and what I should think about there being some pressure on my pinky toe on the right foot. You can kinda slightly see my toe pushing out a little over the welt...

I'm kinda thinking I need to send them back to Baker's but the guy on the phone seems to think this is all a "break in " issue. any advice would be helpful.

  6. heres some catching up.

1st day in jeans - my friends brought this weird thing to brunch - very creepy

the first week of wear on my roys was put in at a sound stage doing some photo-assisting working on photos of the Watson computer model. You may see it tonight on jeopardy.

this is the empty sound stage before the arrival of the model. it was huge.

here we have the model complete with glass for logo placement and lighting setup. the photo was made by the photographer - Bill Diers - hes pretty much the king of lighting black computers. never seen anyone work like him.

some friends of mine had to stop by the local headshop. I thought morse and lando might get a kick out of this. I've heard stories of the gasmask...all of them wind up a little frightening.

last weekend I went to visit an old friend in winston-salem. He's a big fan of home recording stuff, been doing it since we were in highschool - hes got a brand new protools setup in his basement and invited me for some fun and collaboration. So we wrote a song together and recorded that. It was a lot of fun. this is a sample of him recording the piano track - I'll post the song when its finished.

and today - I ate this. It was insane and called a Reuben.

  7. I'm hearing conflicting stories; last I heard they were bang-on true to size. in which case sizing up 1 inch is best policy. But (here I go again) definitely worth checking.
The most recent pair I bought was not undersized. I believe they were 1/2" over tag, but then the larger sizes have usually been okay. It's been the smaller sizes -- anything under 36 -- that have been slimmer than their tagged size would indicate.

    uh oh...what a pain.

all I know is my 1955s were 2 inches larger then tag

my 1915s from last year were 2 inches larger then tag

my brothers 1944s were 1 inch larger then tag.

anyone else have any other input from this season?

  8. Should I go TTS on a 1947 Rigid?

I'd go one or two up. Thats in measured size though. The thighs are very narrow and will be uncomfortable/destructive to the crotch.

I can't remember what the new 47s are measuring out to though...I'm pretty sure they're not undersized anymore...anyone out there know?

  9. Glad to see they've returned to the correct pocket shape on the 1901. Much better.

    .

are you getting this from the photos posted on sivletto? cause I think those are pretty old.

    also - 342USD for 1915 501s...seriously?

  10. Question: The 700J buckleback sits right at the belt line, not jsut below like some other denim I've seen. Does anyone else find this annoying when wearing a belt? Not wearing a belt with these just looks unfinished, but I sort of hate to cut it off...

that's the way its supposed to be. wasn't a problem with my 37s.

  11. the heaviest I've experienced are my pair of samurai s5000vx and I don't think I'll ever venture into that realm again. Its just too hot for summer wear. the 14oz (post wash) 55's and 47's are more up my alley. Although the comfiest, softest I've got is definitely the 1915. super durable too. not a single hole yet, and still a pleasure to wear.

I do think a jacket made out of the 9 or 10oz denim would be a little flimsy feeling. Another reason I'm trying to get my hands on a type 2.

  12. "Since Carhartt took their production to china, brown duck in the states

    is not made anymore".

hmm...that must mean cheap cotton duck...seeing as how cone still makes it.hypehypehype.

  13. looky looky what the mail man brought me yesterday - thanks zissou!
