  1. Good pho in France is also hard to find despite the hundreds of Vietnamese restaurants in the Paris region and although i haven't even tried half of them, my favorite address is Le Bambou in Chinatown.. their pho makes all other pho's i've tried taste bland.. the beef broth has an amazing density and tastes outstanding even before you add the herbs, sauces, lime etc.. i heard the secret is the broth has to simmer for at least 10 hours and then must rest for up to a couple days.. i'm going to take a wild guess and assume most places aren't that patient which makes finding perfect pho even harder.. good luck to those on the ultimate pho quest !

  2. did the initial soak of my unworn 55's yesterday ( bathtub 30°C / 30mn ) damn they shrunk like crazy and got stiffer than cardboard.. the new fit is pretty nice, although it's almost like a totally different jean now lol.. anyways that was my first experiment with unsanforized denim..

im now hesitating with how to handle my new 1917 pair, the fit, size and feel is perfectly on point as is. if i soak, will this model shrink as much and become as stiff as the 55's? i know these are also unsanforized, but these are super thin 9oz kaihara denim (or cone im not sure), so am i to expect different results? i know this model isn't too common, but hopefully someone here has a clue..

  3. This has probably been mentioned here before but i thought it was interesting.. makes lvc prices seem cheap though ;)

Levi’s Lefty by Takahiro Kuraishi for Spring/Summer '11

Taking core inspiration from 1950s workwear, this collection declares ‘Resistance’ to modern fashion culture and the brand identity of Levi’s.

Levi’s Lefty uses a non-traditional left-hand twill denim that stands in contrast to Levi’s right-hand twill heritage. Left-hand twill denim is a weave in which the grain lines run from the top left-hand corner of the fabric towards the bottom right, and are woven from single plied yarns in the warp. They also have a softer feel to them after washing than right hand twills. Made in Japan

  4. Vintage + Authentic = Expensive. Be it a watch, a camera, a vehicule, a musical instrument..

Of course jeans are less complicated and expensive to reproduce than the above, but today hand crafted, made in usa, made in western europe, or made in japan is a luxury no matter the brand or item. There is a premium price to pay for that, and I don't see an opposite evolution in the future. Traditional factories and machinery such as loopwheelers and such are getting rare and are bound to dissapear completely… This is why prices are currently going up, that and inflation..

Also i don't think prices will be any cheaper in 10 years… its impossible to predict how popular LVC will be, but i think it's safe to say there will always be an interest in authentic levi's, since +100 years old models are still being reprod today, besides LVC will then become Vintage LVC !

As for pure authenticity issues, I'll leave that up to the experts…

  5. Again i am perfectly aware of the 55's cut... i got them because i like the boxy 50's look... but there are different body types out there, which is why i'm considering shrink to fit.. 2 inches in the waist is a lot though, so i might just not mess with em..

  6. i DID go with my actual waist size, so the waist is fine at the moment, it's the rest of the jean i'd like a bit more fitted.. i was just afraid if i screw up the soak that i wouldnt be able to button them up, but i guess i'll just need to stretch em out..

  7. i need you guys advice on my new 55's... they feel a bit too roomy, and im not talking about the cut ( my 1917's are way more slack but the fit is right ), i'd really like to get a fit close to the one erk posted last week. problem is they are tts in the waist so is there some kind of mid-soak technique ?? (sorry i'm a total newbie to soaks)

  8. I got a pair of 1917's and 55's last week at a local sale... not sure of the production year, is there a way to tell? they came with the cloth dust bag, not sure if that is still standard.. anyways i also know nothing about soaks and whatnot, i got em both true to waist size, so i'm thinking just rocking them hard for at least 6 months.. maybe a year lol..

  9. APC jeans have really gone up in price, I should've copped a pair awhile ago.

some of the new denim models are now made in Japan, which explains the price jump! it's worth it imo, new denim quality is definitely a step above the made in macau ones..

  10. Umhaha: i didn't even bother to check that collab, i could care less about collabs actually.

+J got me excited as i am a longtime admirer of Jil Sander, and this is her long awaited comeback. BTW in the press kit i got, +J is presented not as a "collab" but as a new line within Uniqlo. In the interview Jil and the Uniqlo CEO go on and on about how +J is raising the bar in quality and design. And although this is partially true, i also find it to be exaggerated as well. just my observation.

Onemancult: not very hard, just look at the fabric details on the tags, a lot of ish uses less than noble fabrics: elastane, polyamide, acrylic..etc... including the cashmeres.btw could someone explain why the +J stretch cashmere sweater is double the price of the regular Uniqlo 100% cashmere sweater ??

This being said, i'm not hating on +J or Uniqlo, they do serve a purpose, and the stuff is practically sold out worldwide. It's definitely a commercial success. the result just reached below my expectations, of course it is a subjective opinion, and one that obviously doesn't fare very well in this thread ...

  11. So STFU and buy APC at their 60% off sale they have every end of season

Indeed maybe i will !!! but no i will not STFU, I don't know if some of you work for direct for Uniqlo or worst are shameless proxies with overstock, but i will express my opinion, wether it bothers you or not, i mean WTF is this Uniqlo dictatorship ?!!!

  12. fucking smartass, compare shirt prices, outerwear, jeans and anything else other than the cashmere knits from +j and let me know how it equates.

there are exceptions but i will be correct 80% of the time on what i said. not always 5 times more expensive but between 3 and 5 for sure. i know how much apc costs, it costs pretty much the same anywhere in the world, LOL @ in france.

you made a fucking stupid comment, don't try to come out of with even more stupid arguments.

i'm eagerly awaiting for your insight when comparing a toyota to an aston martin and calling the toyota subpar.

wow talk about being a smartass?!! whats the matter with you dude ?!!

drink too much redbull today or is it you blew your months salary on oct. 1st ??

all i said is +J feels rather cheap, and i was sorroly dissapointed after hearing the hype, the ad campaign, the Jil Sander interviews etc.. i was expecting something closer to APC than to H&M, but yes i admit it, that was MY mistake. No need to get agressive mate...

And to respond to your flawed auto analogy, +J is more like a Audi frame with a Hyundai interior, looks good on the outside, feels cheap on the inside...

  13. It wasn't so obvious because a lot of times, well sh!t is overpriced mate !

In this case, the price is right, but the quality is a bit sub-par, get it?

( and btw, in France APC is far from being 5 times the price of +J )

edit: quick compare - +J cashmere stretch cardigan made in china: 149,90 eur

APC cashmere wool cardigan made in EU: 170 eur

  14. I was at the VIP only uniqlo flagship store opening in Paris last wednesday ( incredible evening btw ), and got a private peak at the whole +J collection, overall a dissapointment considering the hype. :(

Everything fit rather nice, but indeed the fabrics and construction felt sub-par! Probably not if you compare it to regular uniqlo range or to H&M and Zara. But the quality isn't even close to let's say APC, and i wouldn't even dare compare to actual Jil Sander (raf Simons) but i think that should be pretty obvious to everyone !!

I did end up getting the down funnel hood jacket, pretty dope fall piece at a very sweet price but i doubt it will cut it for winter, so i still might return it. My gf got it as well in navy XS, and it actually fits her better than me LOL ;)

  15. Stoked about the Paris flagship store opening tommorow !!

Can't wait to get my +J on, but having never shopped @ Uniqlo before can someone tell me about the quality of their "cardigan stretch" sweaters ??

  16. exactly, but i searched through superfashion and no thread about this was made.

well, nobody cares about dior homme these days that's why.

The rumour was announced the day after the Gareth AW09 show way back in january, check the according thread ;) but yeah apparently the deal is going through, pretty crazy when you think it was this guys first menswear attempt, guess DH was in a rush to give KVA the boot :D
