  1. noam chomsky has never been right about anything except linguistics

Even then, important aspects of his theory of generative grammar have been very effectively contested. I'm not going to say disproved, but well contested certainly. Of course though my view is slightly biased by the fact that Heinz Giegerich was my morphology professor.

  2. What a coincidence that this discussion should come up; the dissertation I'm currently writing touches upon this subject. Just thought I'd jump in to note that the theory that objectively discernible racial features and traits are affected by geographic and climactic factors is an idea that has been around since Aristotle. What is more, it has been expounded countless times since then, notably by Isidore of Seville in the seventh century, and by numerous Aristotelian scholars in the lead up to the Renaissance in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The concept of race as a social construct, too, is extant, though often implicitly, in literature spanning centuries. Comments on race that are seen here are nothing new; they have been noted since the dawn of human civilization as people looked to define both themselves and those around them.

    Back to the dissertation.

  3. I picked up a couple of the Carpenters Shirts last week and I really like them. I went a size down to an XS for a slimmer fit, as per their sizing advice, and they fit really well. These guys are definitely going to see a few more purchases from me.

  4. I like this thread.

I'm arrogant, frequently condescending, and elitist. I'm incredibly shallow, and have unjustifiably high standards when it comes to the physical attractiveness of women; as long as you're incredibly good looking I don't about your personality. I find most people, and what they have to say, very banal. I hate everyone I don't know, yet I'll be very offended if anyone doesn't like me. I have very little time for the views of others. I hate commies and hippies.

I'll see if I can think of any more over the course of the evening.

  5. As you wear your shoes more and the crepe gets worn down it becomes smooth, also the cold tends to make it hard. Both these properties mean icy pavements can be a little tricky, though I've never had any problems in the wet. Still, they are certainly better than leather soles, which are like ice skates in the winter. If you're looking for something really heavy duty for the winter weather then you'd have to consider something with a rubber sole, or get a topy on a pair of leather soles.
