  1. JEW's coming back? They were my first "real" concert a few years ago, but I don't think I'd go see them. Just checked out their site and that new single is shit.

Felt like it's not really sufu-ish either, but on Monday saw QOTSA. Show was dirty, in a good way. Weird as hell to go to the Hummingbird for it though (and what the fuck is with the name change?).

  2. Sorry to hear that Hali, but yeah, whenever I was by it always seemed like everyone else was so uptight. They've got some nice shit though... was just going to stop in the other day to look for a heavier coat.

Dunno about jobs, been looking into some part-time stuff up at Yorkdale just because it's near school, but I'm assuming that's a bit north for you. That and part-time.

I'd probably be down for meet if that's cool. Next week's "study week", heh.

  3. I have yet to get it to go counter-clockwise. I'm wondering what it has to do with logic, though; logically, when I'm following her spinning clockwise, perspective would tell me her lifted foot will appear higher up the planted leg when it passes behind it, as opposed to in front of it. So when it's at it's lowest point in it's rotation, I'm thinking it's at the front. I've stared at it for a couple minutes now and this doesn't leave my mind. So I'm fucked.

  4. Yeah it blows me away how many posters are still in high school, with pairs of Evisu, Skull, Nudie, etc. When I was in high school, I had 2 pairs of thrift store jeans and the rest of my wardrobe was from Costco.

That's how I justify my own fashion spending (which is not really a whole lot). Growing up, I never had new clothes or anything remotely cool, so now that I have a little bit of disposable income, I am kind of making up for lost time. I'm already pretty tired of the whole scene, but now that I'm done growing it's easier to think of my purchases as investments.

This basically sums it up for me. I mean, jhey's what, 14? And the kid has more than one pair of $200+ jeans. Back in the early days of high school my clothes were cheap because it didn't make sense to buy stuff that was going to be outgrown in a year or two. Once I hit junior year and got a job, I started buying my own clothes, but a part-time job still meant Levis and mall stuff.

I went to university, picked up a sweet summer job making way more than enough to cover school, and so the new-found disposable income (and lack of any growth spurt threat) meant I could look at clothing as a long-term investment. So I justify my more expensive clothing as a better alternative to a small pile of cheap clothing. Basically, the cliché quantity versus quality argument. That and as I've grown, I've been less interested in having a closet with a rediculous amount of variety; I want a more cut-down, essential closet filled with quality, versatile pieces. I'm less tempted to blow my money on a cool tee that I'll be bored with by month's end.

In senior year, I had six pairs of shitty denim. And they were all slightly different shades of blue. Now I've got a pair of APCs and a beater pair of Levi's, and combined, they cost the same as the pairs back in high school. Sure, my wardrobe is larger now, both physically and financially, but as a kid, all I wore were tees and jeans, and the occasional sweater. I had a coat for spring/fall, and a winter ski jacket. I've got a far more varied wardrobe now, and it's a lot easier to justify my consumerism when I can say I at least have more bases covered, depending on event, weather, etc.

  5. i dont know what kinds of girlfriends you have but if you are relying on jewelry to get you laid, maybe consider looking for another girl. buy something she will genuinely like. this means letting her decide, unless you've seen her long for a piece of jewelry before. if she does, remember it, write it down if you have to, and then buy it at some point in time if it fits the budget.

So I forgot the (10). Point is the Tiffany box is a well-known thing.

But to the OP, do what Prof says. Get a sense of her tastes, hopefully she's given a few specific examples to guide your decision, and fit into a budget. If she likes narrow rings, a huge band with a stone inset into it probably won't work.

Also, I'd stay away from platinum, only because it dulls really quickly. If she doesn't mind that though, I'm pretty sure it's stronger than gold, so that's worth considering.

  6. Cool stuff there Hali, I wish I had the drive to stick to something like that. I think I just related it in my mind to "huge course load", so my lazy ass didn't want to do it. However, I do think I may have to make a visit if you've got more of the new Corpus stuff in lately. Damn.

Tonight was lame. Tomorrow should be filled with drunken debauchery. So quite a bit better.

  7. First off, congrats Kiya!

Second, I'm amazed at how good it looks, my first thoughts were that it'd be difficult to try and emulate wool with FH denim, but you guys nailed it. The shoes and socks are awesome too, the shoes in particular encourage me that a pair of FH jeans can't be too bad on my wallet! Are there any plans for it to maybe be showcased in the store in the long-term?

Once again, congrats on the occasion!

  8. Going to have to chime in about Brand New too, in agreeance with DD. The third album definitely is different, but they really pull it off nicely live. Last I saw them, they announced they were going to play one of the songs off the first album, then went right into one of the newer ones. A lot of the taking back sunday-loving kids in the crowd just looked puzzled. If this new album is going to weed out the mtvites, I can't ask for more. They also ended the show with a pretty long, pretty cool instrumental.

Conor Oberst - I listen to some of his stuff, but the next Dylan? Hah.

Elliott Smith - I'm sure I'll catch hell for this, and it's not that I don't like his music. I just feel people would be a lot less positive about anything he wrote if he hadn't killed himself.

Wolfmother - Hahaha, where's your hype now?

  9. Catching the eye it's usually the cut/colour of the article. I'm a sucker for little details after I inspect it, though.

    When I actually buy:

    Neccessity, fit, quality, price.

Most important, to least. I think it's a good system; while price is least important, neccessity weeds a lot of things out.

  10. Actually happened to me with my newer Eras a few weeks ago. Yeah, laces... it can happen with just about any shoe, I think feet are pretty sensitive to even small changes in the wear of the shoe. Sticking with what barcelona said though; work them in, and it'll be fine soon enough.

  11. Was thinking the same thing, I'm sure it'd be great with proper controls.

That being said, I did find the editing allowed in that video kinda cool. I like the idea of storing a video of the match, especially as you can roam. Though they over-state the "you can control every single object in the level", it just looks like a few obvious things.

  12. Interceptor, I can only hope my NC's turn out that well, those are awesome man. Also, it lays to rest a worry of mine about the outer seams on mine.

Jeep, I couldn't agree more, but it's falling on deaf ears. Lazy people would rather ask their question and have someone else figure out the answer than have to do it themselves.
