  1. as far as i can see the 500 sized down one and the 710 tts are nearly identical so i suppose this is just a matter of what kind of denim. thanks for the help guys

yeah, you're actually pretty much correct with this assumption. both provide a relatively slim fit, mid to slightly high rise, and maintain that proportion all the way down, as long as your legs are normal (i.e. diametric mass tapers down from the hip) and not sausages.

  2. i love the 15 oz texas cotton denim. it's harsh as shit. there is a definite difference in feel (thickness) between 15 oz, and 17 oz, and 19 oz, and so on. my last pair was 19 oz, and that's about my threshold. i definitely wouldn't want anything thicker. i'm currently breaking in a pair of 15 oz. 0500's and i love it. reminds me a lot of skull's 6x6 denim (i.e. 5010XX 6x6) which if i had bought the right size, would've been the perfect jean.

  3. do it step by step.

a single peace worn right and combined with the existing wardrobe can look much better than a whole outfit of "approved" garnments bought together in two weeks.

agreed! I find my preferred style of clothing shifting all of the time, not based on what i find visually appealing on others, but because of the influence individual pieces have on me. right now, i'm feeling the tremendous urge to go more "street style," and fighting it every day... i fucked up when i started wearing long cut t-shirts, and chukkas instead of (vans) authentics.

  4. With the weakness of USD right now, it still costs $325 to import the cheapest pair of Samurais (cheapest being 24,990Y.) Being that BiG basically specializes in unique, handmade imported goods, and keeping in mind the fact that said imports are typically priced at a premium, why is everyone getting so butthurt?

  5. Good advice. I'm lucky that my washing machine has a soak feature, which basically won't have the spin cycle. I think it's not necessarily the agitation that causes max shrinkage, but rather the bath tub won't have as hot as water as the washing machine due to safety reasons.

My washing machine spits out boiling hot water, I find 1 soak is suffice with air dry. I usually get 2" from the waist and 3" in the inseam just soaking in the washing machine.

Good suggestion, I'll give it a shot. It looks like my 0500s damn well might make it here before valentine's day, when the girl and i are having a two-day excursion to universal studios... i'd love to have a brand new pair of jeans to wear for that. and probably get soaked with nasty log flume water and all that shit. wipe my god damned funnel cake hands all over the fuckin things.

my washing machine does some brutal shit with the spin cycle; never cared for it. nowadays i'll wash my 710s with spin cycle because they've proven they can easily handle the abuse, but a virgin pair is going to get the gentle touch treatment.

and yeah that guy needs to hem, much like i do, but a big stupid cuff is good enough for me. I remember back when I ordered my 710s, I didn't have them hemmed, because I figured ~36" inseam was what I needed at 6'1 with just a slight bit of stacking... nope, ridiculous stacking. Had my 0500s hemmed before they shipped to 93cm, so they should shrink to around 34"... perfect.

  6. thanks, how much did yours stretch in the waist?

They measure 16" across now. I wear them on the hip without a belt. They could easily stretch another inch or more if they needed to.

  7. ok, then i'll just wear em. would you be so kind and post some faded pics of your pair as our fit is almost identical? you could also just pm me if you would like to.

    cheers

sure, here ya go, just took this. warning... salaryman fades... minus the salary...

  8. definitely hot wash em. they need that agitation that a washing machine provides. alternatively, i suppose a very hot soak (130 - 140 degrees Fahrenheit) with manual agitation (get all up in that tub with those hands) would suffice if you'd rather be gentle. but, the washing machine won't mess anything up. just avoid the dryer unless you've got a laundry bag you can put them in, or you will get hard creases.

edit- sorry, i misread. if you've done a hot soak and a hot wash, you should be good enough. basically, once you get the inseam to shrink +/- 2.5", you're good.

  9. regarding my question yesterday whether i should hot wash or not. after the hot soak i find that my pair rarely shrank. the inseam was almost as long as before etc. then i just did a hot wash at 60° and now they are (i'm exaggerating a bit) at least 2 sizes smaller. the fit is perfect now and the waist is not 2" too big.

just throw your samurais in the washing machine, at least the 710.

this can't be said enough -- any quality, unsanforized denim needs to be HOT washed at least twice (or three times) for max initial shrinkage. posting these pictures again...

I'm officially anti-dryer now, though. dryer creases NEVER came out. jeans are ~16 months old now.

  10. son of a bitch. just bought a pair of 0500 size 31 for $325 from e2nd a few days ago. i knew this would happen! oh well. good luck with sale, these should go quick at these prices.

the perfect slim japanese jean... hell i'm almost tempted to buy them myself, but three pairs of samurais at once is just being overzealous.

  11. Oh no no! I just bought her a very pretty ring for the first time in our 6 years together, and she is very happy about it :-) That, and I bought her a pair of TFH's last year and she has been wanting to return the favor.

  12. I'm on the brink of talking myself into snagging a pair come March when they come out... Check this out... I just sold the SExDB jeans for $175, and my sweet ladyfriend wants to contribute $150 towards the valentine's day present of my choice... Ai yi yi... That's the price of admission right there!

Need a new pair of jeans to rotate, and I know Samurais are good for it. I've been wearing my 710s for about a year and 4 months now, and they are just now starting to get great.

  13. that happened to me at a mall in gainesville (i think? where's UF?) some guy recognized my jeans being from the skull contest, asked me if i was "en-oh-gee," etc. our girlfriends were both pretty creeped out. the whole encounter made the blood rush to my head.
