excellent, thanks! however humorously enough, my car seems to have started chewing through antifreeze as i drove home after making that post... so god knows what potentially needs a tune-up. financial situation withstanding afterwards, i'll call asap and try to pick one up.

  2. would you suggest i wear them while i soak them? also, i'm worried that the legs will shrink in so that they will be tighter. will that happen?

as long as the thigh isn't skin tight currently, you don't need to worry about it... the 6x6 denim has familiar shrinkage... 1 - 2" in the inseam, about 1" in rise and waist, 0.5" or less in the thigh/leg. regardless they are sanforized so they won't permanently shrink very far past their original measurements at all. nothing that can't easily be stretched back out.

  3. growing up... jnco and "tommy hil" turned into polo sport and nautica for the skateboarding scene... wasn't too big on denim in high school, a few pairs of american eagle jeans and a pair of second hand diesels that fit like shit. fastforward 6 years...

    pre-sufu: APC, nudie

post-sufu: skull, flat head, samurai (next)

never owned a pair of levi's in my life... weird. those polo sport jeans were the shit and bought at ross (or marshalls or some similar chain) for like $20 a piece.

  4. I have had my Skulls for about 6 months now, and have had many areas start to come unstiched. What I have done, and it works very well actually, is cut the loop of the thread, and then inside the jeans, get some super glue and glue the inside stich. I have done this to many parts of the jeans, including the front and back pockets, crotch and thighs. I will try to post pictures later if anyone wants.

that's pretty clever, and yeah, sounds like it would work really well without having any adverse effects since superglue doesn't run or melt or anything like that.

  5. Dr. Bronners...Okay bad joke. Anyway thanks for the replies, most of the fading was done when I was working on my car or when I was spending time at the beach with the lady.

Time to start working on Flatheads. Another year for another post.

    Ben

out of curiousity, what dr. bronners is used for washing jeans? just the liquid soap? or, is there a detergent available somewhere? i'd like to try this out with my current pair before i begin washing them.

  6. My new size 29 skulls are up on the supermarket for anyone interested...

good call, hope you sell these quickly and pick up a size 30. you'll like those a lot more. they'll still be plenty slim but definitely more comfortable in the first month. mine were pretty tight in the beginning and breaking them in was really rough.

I loved my grey skull 5010. Until they started turning pink :(. I'm wearing them less and less because its doesnt really go with anything or suit the use I had for them previously!

this happened to ruach too. quite the phenomenon... i don't know what makes grey turn to pink but it's happening. have you washed them yet?

  7. Ringo's sister here.

    Here's some tips:

    1. When buying denim, always try them on first. the cuts could be different and you may need a bigger or smaller size. Always get a size smaller so that when it stretches out, it fits perfect.

    2. try not to have bulky cellphones or ipods in your front pockets; it ruins the slimming effect and makes your thighs look bigger. keep them in the back pockets if you must, but becareful if you sit on them =]. i recommend hot messenger bags, even if you're only carrying two things. x)

the whole point of stacking is to even out the thigh to calf proportion.

get the dukes! someone of your bodyshape would look good in them!

  8. agreed, if you couldn't button them at all at first, that is simply too small for this particular jean. the 6x6 is tough texas denim that really doesn't stretch all that much, and stays stiff for a long time. in combination with the 100% cotton thread, you're asking for trouble with a stretch of that magnitude! in the 5010xx contest, we've already had at least one person rip the stitching in their fly doing this.

  9. So i did a search and i don't find a consensus.

So i decided to start a thread.

What do you think about cycling in jeans?

How do you avoid crotch rips?

    ETC.

I'm thinking about using my bike for my commute, but i don't want any crotch rips.

cycling will naturally put lots of friction and strain into the crotch and the seat of your pants. i'm not sure there's a whole lot you can do to prevent it when your legs are moving back and forth so many times per minute. this isn't to say that your crotch will automatically blow out the second you sit on a bike though. i bike in my jeans often, and while the crotches of them are noticably more worn than other parts, i haven't had any issues yet.

  10. im not sure if this is in the thread or not.. but i see the measurements from skull's official's site and selfedge's site to be very different... eg. the thigh measurements of a pair of 5507 for w33 is 30cm, where for selfedge 12.5 inch( 32 cm)...

who's should i go with?? caus if i go w/ selfedge's measurement, 5010 seems to fit better, where if i go w/ skull's measurements, 5507 is a better choice... sooooo confusing.. (wait... is selfedge's measurements on a pair of RAW ??)

skull's method of measuring thigh is kinda strange, too tired to explain it right now but it's on their website. it is NOT straight across the leg from the yoke. i'd use the self edge measurements as a guide if i were you.

  11. okay, is it really too tight of a fit if i size down 1?

i wear a sz 29 in APC NS, and I'm a true waist size 31.

i know the concensus is to buy true waist size, but theres a sz 30 on the marketplace and a sz 31 has not popped up anywhere in a long time. i think im just going to nab these

if i like sit in them while they soak, or put a hanger in the wasit, it still would be way too tight?

    thanks

-and i've tried to ask this question, but never got a clear answer: how much does the hem shrink after soak?

(I know i've been a pain but I can't justify spending 200+ on jeans without being sure)

feel free to press your luck sizing down 1, but you'd probably be better off going true to size. flat head denim shrinks a pretty decent amount

  12. the 5010xx maintains a pretty narrow profile until you get to the upper sizes, then the leg starts widening out (like 33-34+) definitely a bit slimmer than your flat heads but not drastically so. those look more along the lines of skull's 5507 cut.
