  1. i mean it's not bad looking or anything, but you should just save up and get a watch that you could pass on to your kids and shit.

i am of the same mind.

i'm not sure (also don't care) how these watches are rated by the watch enthusiast types, but as a big max bill fan i've always loved his watches for junghans which are pretty cheap relatively-

and my favorite which i guess isn't made anymore-

  2. i sent it back to cartier for maintenance, and to replace the face (which was slightly stained) and strap. the hands are original!

    to josephr :

i had put it into my safe deposit box about 3 years ago when i was moving... totally forgot about it!

i had an unfortunate image in my mind of that tank in a shoebox in some storage unit off the highway or something. thanks for putting that to rest.

  3. i just switched back to this :

    0802tank0001ta4.jpg

vintage cartier tank - 18K gold and manual wind.

i replaced the face and got a black lizard strap a few years ago before i put it into storage. now that everyone has 50mm watches, maybe its time for something different...

that watch is beautiful. why would you ever put it in storage?

  4. I'm assuming neck pockets are all the same on these things and I could possibly get a nicer neck right? Are the back bolt patterns standard? I don't want to spend much on this as it defeats the purpose of it, but recommendations for a neck, tuners, pickups, and bridge for a budget build?

you could get a nicer neck but you'd have a nice neck+a body of unknown quality. squiers have a range of niceness depending on location of manufacture and time period so you could have something passable or several pieces of plywood glued together and painted which wouldn't even be worth your time to use, imo. might as well buy a different body if you're gonna replace all that other stuff too.

  5. Serious? You try an stay west of La Brea too prolly?

i don't really think it's a good idea to recommend the rampart area for someone who is new to the city especially if he is white. if you disagree you probably haven't lived here too long. zing!

  6. its a very legit school, they're a university now, they're just small. i think about ~1400 kids, so it just seems a bit so-so on the scale of things. in honesty, i really like it, but it was my safety and i got into my second choice already (Wagner), so it was really only a back up if i didn't get into Wagner or Emerson (so i could be in the greater Boston area)

Bard is sorta last on my list cause im not much of a hippie.

emerson or wagner over bard is kind of strange unless you're an actor or something.

  7. imo best medical marijuana in the bay area is the green cross delivery service. everything is $45 but it's all top shelf for real. they have had some hawaiian strains that really sparked my interest in cannabis connoiseurship. kevin who runs it is also very cool and a very legitimately compassionate guy.

in LA the best spot is CRC hands down. M who runs it is by far the most knowledgeable person on the topic of cannabis i have ever met and probably has the best connections to great/rare/interesting strains.

in short and in general, in california it is legal for anyone with a doctor's recommendation for cannabis to posses or cultivate (min. of 6-12 plants allowed) it...

Section 1. Section 11362.5 is added to the California Health and Safety Code, to read:

11362.5. (a) This section shall be known and may be cited as the Compassionate Use Act of 1996. (B) (1) The people of the State of California hereby find and declare that the purposes of the Compassionate Use Act of 1996 are as follows:

    (A) To ensure that seriously ill Californians have the right to obtain and use marijuana for medical purposes where that medical use is deemed appropriate and has been recommended by a physician who has determined that the persons health would benefit from the use of marijuana in the treatment of cancer, anorexia, AIDS, chronic pain, spasticity, glaucoma, arthritis, migraine
or any other illness for which marijuana provides relief.
    (
    B)
To ensure that patients and their primary caregivers who obtain and use marijuana for medical purposes upon the recommendation of a physician are not subject to criminal prosecution or sanction.

© To encourage the federal and state governments to implement a plan for the safe and affordable distribution of marijuana to all patients in medical need of marijuana.

  8. would jil sander fit under "sub-contracted BS"? i saw some and liked how they looked, but i don't want to pay near-premium if it's not worth it.

anything is going to be "subcontracted" unless the house owns the factory the shit is made in. there's lots of factors in the "quality" of the tie - differing construction methods/material/etc. that having been said, you should probably buy stuff that you like and that feels nice to you if you can afford it. if you are not really into ties you probably won't care too much at the end of the day (above a certain level).

and at any rate, you should know that there are so many factors beyond quality that influence the retail price. very little clothing is actually "worth it". so just buy the jil sander tie unless you are really trying to get all patrick bateman dick size contest with your similarly well-heeled friends but that rabbit hole is never ending. i am sure the jil sander is nice enough, probably.

edit: subcontracted could also mean that the label has paid another manufacturer to (any combination of...) design/source fabric for/construct the ties (very common). this could be called "private label" or it could be a case in which the label is just licensing name and rights for the production of ties in a particular market to someone else with an entirely different manufacturing setup/QC/etc

  9. Update Union nyc guy had told me visvim is really stepping up their prices due to manufacturing costs. FOlk series will cost 500 retail at union stores when they get em. He said visvim is moving towards being like DIOR.

    better comparison is CDG

  10. contrary to common beliefe, marijuana is healthy in moderation

very healthy! marijuana is the most benign therapeutically active substance known to man. the problems come when you are smoking shit of unknown origin. what about mold or mildew? when you know someone who's a big cannabis smoker and they have a chronic cough it's usually from the mildew and shit... or pesticides?

  11. this guy and his shop are totally whack. saw the CP rips in LV last week, only difference is the sole has the logo in it. to be honest i think i saw one or two other CP rip shoes from other brands but can't remember which ones.

  12. I have a rolex sub now (passed down from my father) but it's stainless and gold and I really wanna try and find either a vintage all stainless air king or maybe a vintage datejust.

    Something more understated I guess.

if you're wearing a sub i can see how you'd want to size down. the extra 2mm isn't that big a deal on the case, it's the bracelet that can look strangely wimpy on the clasp side unless you're a smaller guy.
