  1. overpriced version of the covert case.  http://arcteryx.com/Product.aspx?language=EN&model=Covert-Case-C-O

Covert Case is 2.19 pounds while D3 Traveller Duffel is 1.1 pounds.  I don't see the improvement aside from some minor design coolness.

It's not just a design improvement, but the ability to take away what is unnecessary. They make it clear that the bag isn't for around the town carry and that it's not for everybody - http://sdrtraveller.com/pages/ownership-wear-care

The main guy behind this is a design researcher named Jan Chipchase (http://janchipchase.com/) whose work is to build rapport with the people he's trying to understand and design for. If he were to appear as a US agent or spy would be detrimental to both his project and the people helping him.

He's got some really interesting projects:

  2. Yo guys i have really dry hair, like when i dont put pomade, its all puffy and dry, i never been a fan of conditioner and i wanna start using some often per week to control my hair dryness. ( my hair never get really oily, i can go a week or more without washing and they will still be dry as fuck )

is it better to get a leave-in conditioner or a washable one / how many times per week should i use it ?

thanks, im really a noob on conditioner.

^good questions! i am in the same boat

should i just grab something at costco?

I have super dry / puffy hair too. However if I go a day without washing it gets really oily. What I started doing last winter was put some homemade beard oil in my hair.

I just used a mixture of grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, and a drop or two of essential cedar oil. After mixing it together, just a couple drops in the palms of my hands then run through my hair took the frizz and fluff out of it without making it greazy.

  3. Bringing the thread back from the depths. Just got a Canon s120. I was really debating between it and the Sony RX100 and RX100 II.

I finally found a review from a self-described non pro who used his camera exactly like I plan to and he went with the Canon. At least it saved me a few hundred bucks. Plus, my previous camera is a canon and I'm somewhat used to the interface which really can make a difference in how quick you can get the right pic.

Any recommendations for sites that give decent tutorials? Other than just youtube. I'm looking to learn when to use Auto vs. Aperture Priority, vs. Custom, etc. Thanks

  4. Does anybody know how humidity affects brewing? This past week we got a mini heat wave and the air was so thick. I know with baking it really affects things, but wondered if having more humid air is supposed to affect it? Other than the static after the grind

  5. So I'm so outta touch, but I just discovered Mildblend in Wicker Park this weekend. For denim heads this is by far the best Japanese Denim selection. They even have a union special to do chain stitching on. Among the brands carried they had:

    Iron Heart

    The Flat Head

    3Sixteen

    Unbranded

    Eternal

    Nudie

    Railcar

    Leftfield

    Momataro

and a bunch more. They had other stuff too, but I was just surprised by their denim selection. And they didn't just have a pair or two, but stacks on stacks of them. Dudes were super nice to, asking about my PBJs and stuff

  6. everyone ever tried american crew products ?

like fiber or the grooming cream ?

Yeah, I really like their forming cream. it has good hold without getting crusty/dry like other water-soluble pomades. it's weird though, a new can is really different than when it's almost empty. It's like it starts to dry out and become a lot thicker toward the end, making it a bit more difficult to apply to longer hair

  7. I got on a pen streak a few years back. Some of the guys in the EDC thread have some really good collections. One of them got me into the Pentel Tradio line that you can get at jetpens.com. The Body of the pen is a very light (feels kinda cheap) plastic, but it's matte finish which is nice. But replacable ink cartridges in .7 and .5 mm I think. The pen's like $8 and refills like $1.50. It writes so smooth and doesn't smear which is my main criteria.

Oh, and I got the matte black Fisher Space Pen. Decently smooth writing. I like it's compactness, but have found that the pen top doesn't stay on the back when I'm writing. And sometimes the clip pops off. But it's got a nice solid feel in your hand, not too light, not too big

I do like the look of the Larny Safari tho
