  1. listen to master mike!!

I should be now , this is my third pair of 1966s !!! and the only pair that have worked out fit wise for me . My first pair stretched out to a w36 , the second were ok but I then lost weight and they were too big .These are a tagged w33 and are spot on as I am around a w35 !!!

  2. hey mike they look great too, why dont you want to keep them?

Thanks . Figue of speech ... I do like them , particuarly the w33 fit and the greyish colour changing in certain areas with wear , dirt and sweat .

  3. Me an Lee jeans do not have a happy hstory , I have never had a pair that worked out fit wse or after wash that I really liked . However , that hasnt stopped me . Got a pair form Cultizms sale , 1966 101z , which are a good fit . I have worn them for a month and a half , everyday , 4m walk from work , gardening etc,... they are unwashed . Might just keep them ...

  4. Mmmmm.... offset belt loops

Agreed , strangely there does'nt seem to be many pics with offset beltloops in the thread .

Slightly off topic , I luckliy have the LVC 551zxx , from 1998 , it would be great if LVC done a re-run or 501 repro with an offset beltloop (Levi Japan did do one I think )

  5. Isn't is true that the European LVC collection(jeans), the line wich ea. Cultizm offers is made in Poland nowadays?

    Or am I totally wrong?

I've bought a LVC shirt last year and the tag reads 'Made in Tunesia'

    very nice nevertheless

"Raw" jeans are assembled in the USA . Prediistressed jeans have been treated and assembled in Europe for te last few years . Paul T , I believe , highlighted this arlier in the thread . As for shirts etc... havent a clue as to why but they appear to be of European manufacture .

  6. Why are the real mccoy's Leepros almost 100 bucks more than their other jeans?

Earler in the thread it mentions McCoys pay a license fee in Japan to Edwin , think horriblyjollyjinx posted that .

  7. hi,

am after a pair of 101z 52 but after reading through this thread there seems some discrepancy about sizing. do i buy true to size or down a size?

can someone please clarify for me. thanks

I would check with 0 retailer to confirm the exact waist measurement before purchasing . However the current Edwin manufactured model is approx two inch oversized , my w32 were actually w34 . The waist will shrink slightly but will stretch back , the legs are long but shrink to tag size .

  8. Found this advert on ebay , dates to 1955 and seems to indicate Lee were making different cuts of Lee Riders during that period . Which explains a lot of the differing cuts we see in vintage denim sites .

Thanks for the info meader and also to my friend simontuntelder who kindly emailed me . Made another purchase my wife says I dont really need.....

  9. Fardin , I have benched the 1966 (for the moment) Wearin the 1952s a lot , lI prefer the nine leg opening and fuller cut from the knee as opposed to an eight inch tapered 1966 cut . The detailing on the 1952 is better also .

  10. My latest Edwin/Lee 101z purchase has really impressed me . Havent washed mine yet , dont need too as I dont wear my jeans hard .The waist has stretched an inch but I am not too worried about that . However they are developing some good lap/thigh. knee fades regardless . The assembly , attention to detail and denim quality are excellent . I am seriously considering getting a pair of 1959 101b from Speedway . Hopefully someone can confirm to size down two inches at the waist , same as the 101z .

  11. I haven't seen any of the newer 47s and as Paul has said the sizing on some of the other models has not been the way it was in the past. As you can see the measurements I posted of my 47s as compared to my 55 both tagged the same size would suggest a slimmer fir and Pauls remarks about the 55s more bell shaped profile as compared to the 47s would go to the idea that the 47s would have a trimmer profile. But as you can see by the measurements of my 47s the are slimmer in the thigh and cut lower than the 55s.

I totally agree , 47s I owned say 2yrs ago were slimmer than those produced now . There is a pic of me in a pair of w36/l34 ( from Oct 2008 ,shrunk to 34/32 )in the 47 sizing thread and the cut is a lot fuller than any I ever had previous. I had to sell them and eventually get a 34/34 . Levis seems to have got its' act together on the 47 but dont start me on other recent models !!

  12. Pictures dont really prove anything but I have included two pics - One of a pair of 1950s offset belt loop 501s (w34 l 33.5 from Duff Tokyo site) and a pair of LVC 1947 i recently purchased (S1 08 tagged and measured w34 l 34) The 1947s have a 81/2 leg opening which immeiately goes to 9 inches upto the knee . Theses are extremely straight leg . The crotch to outer thigh is 12 inches . I always previously bought a w36 l34 (then shrunk) but recent 243m jeans I purchased last October were too loose . These are great but still not a slim cut !!!

  13. I'm pleased partytaco has been able to shed some facts on this issue , with hopefully more to follow . The authenticity of cuts question I think has bothered a lot of us for a long time , I have previously discarded certain pairs because of it !!

Included a couple of LVC 551zxx pics , close as to any original pic I have seen and although referenced as an early 60s jean I have seen Evey Garment Guaranteed labeled pics dating them to late 50s. Note the bell shape and tapered waist !!!

Think these pics also show how jeans can look very different when pictured from different angles

  15. Called into my friends retro shop today and came back with an Aero A2 . I had seen thsi before and checked it out with Aero for him late last year . Its an early 1980s manufacture , in fact the order no and makers initials are on a tag in the right hand pocket . Its in very good condition for its age. Has a Talon zipper but has some minor paint spalshes on the left pocket , couple of small abrasions , some lining wear at the collar and the waist and cuffs could be cleaned up . Thought it would be of interest to the thread but also I will be putting it on ebay tomorrow for him so if anyone is interessted drop me a pm .

  16. Brummie , nice one . U can never beat a bargain and its' great to get one now and again .

Fardin , I had wondered when/if a 1950s black centre tag 101z would ever be made . Full selvage would have been better , given that the 1955 101b has half . However , I wouldnt complain if I had a pair !!

  17. I have a book called 'The Jeans ' , japanese book from a few years ago . There is a section of Lee posters/adverts etc.. among it is a small pic of a cowboy wearing ' the new slim Lee Riders ' The pockets look deep but the overall cut is very like Monty Clifts pic , no date on it but I agrre with Paul - Lee had many styles and detailing thru the 50/60s . Thats why I like them so much !!!

If you check out some of my posts of Lee Rider adverts , there are all sorts of cuts .

  18. I know, that's what I was thinking, but like Paul T says, I suppose it's historically accurate. When they were new the zipper was so nice and flat. I might still try and figure out a way to replace it or something.

The fit really isn't so slim, it's just extremely tapered. I really like the long rise and room in the hips, they taper sharply below the knee. Is this inauthentic? Seems legit to me.

The 1950s 501zxx were just like 501xx but with a zipper . Check out www.marvins-jp.com or www.duff.to , they have 501zxx originals . There is a pic from Sivletto I posted a few pages back which show a guy wearin the 1954 501zxx and they look slim !!! But you know , if you want/like them the cuts' authenticity doesnt matter .

  19. ''I was visiting my son at University yesterday , was wearing a pair of 1952 101z and a worn 507xx .''

i wanna be like this when my daughter goes off to 'uni'. +rep

I have a 10yr old daughter also and I will still be wearin the same when she goes too... fuck . i'll be 52 then. Oh well , your are as old as you feel !!!
