  1. ^^^^ Those are really nice. How old are they? Have you treated the leather? Crepe soles? Can they be resoled?

Any info on these is much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, they're about two years old worn only around summertime for two (short northern) summers. I've treated with beeswax once maybe, they were pretty well oiled already. Crepe soles and resoleable. More info.

I was about to buy blucher mocs from quoddy and was really amazed to see that these cost 316$ now and they were 144$ about two years ago. I'd definitely take Russell or Arrow mocs instead!!!

  2. nice! i have a kanken, been thinking about getting a big or a laptop one.

what's the sizing/fit like on fjallraven's jackets? I want to order either a Skur or a Nordli but there's only like one place in the US where i could try fjallraven on...

They are quite roomy. I'm usually a size L but for example that Greenland jacket I'm size M (though, I have a size L that I've worn maybe two times and would be happy to part with... ;) )

  3. I'm not convinced. More details?

Oven-baked Malt Porridge a Finnish Easter Treat

Christmas is the main festival in the Finnish calendar and the time when Finns serve their most traditional fare. Easter, too, features some traditional foods, but they do not add up to a unified festive board.

    easter3.jpg

The oldest and no doubt the most unusual traditional Finnish dish is mämmi, a dark brown porridge made of water and sweetened rye malt. It is baked in a slow oven in cardboard boxes made to look like birchbark baskets. Nowadays mämmi is a dessert served with cream and sugar, but originally it used to be a Lenten provision, eaten cold as such or spread on top of a slice of bread.

For a long time, Easter mämmi remained a special delicacy of southwestern Finns, until early this century the art of making mämmi spread nationwide, thanks to rural homemaking schools, agricultural societies and cookery books. Finland's independence in 1917 inspired a vigorous search for typically Finnish symbols. Mämmi, an age-old, genuine Finnish folk dish, was accepted as one. Nowadays it is a seasonal product for the bakeries. Rows of boxes resembling birchbark baskets and filled with mämmi appear in the food stores almost as soon as Christmas is over.

  4. You really didn't scrimp with oil! Bear in ming that excess oiling reduces the breathability of the leather as well as it makes the leather less durable. If you apply oil you could just put some (few drops) in cotton cloth and wipe gently. Of course you will never have to do this for these shoes! :)

  5. ^^As I understood it from talking with one of the sales persons, fabrics that isnt Gore-tex, like Haglöfs "PROOF" fabric, are coated, and hence needs to be recoated to keep their waterproof proporties. He recommended it to be done twice yearly if the jacket was used alot.

^^ That would be far better solution to everyday use. Once there is holes in the gore-tex layer there is no way of proofing it. Some of the PROOF material is also made from recycled polyester, thats good! You can also wash away the waterproofing when in dry / warm conditions and proof it again when needed.

  6. ^^^How do you like the Haglöfs one? I think I´ll pick up a haglöfs soft shell in their "proof" material. Super light weight.

I like it a lot. I've used their gear for a long time since they are really good quality, they fit my (quite skinny and tall) body type well and they're nice to look too.

Only downside (this has nothing to do with Haglöfs or any other brand in particular) of using those technical gore-tex (or whatever) is that if you wear them as your everyday jacket the waterproof layer won't last that long. On the other hand, that is not what they are meant to be.

  7. If you spend 300$ in a night out no one will complain. If you spend it on jeans and do the things mentioned above it's like molesting a child (instead molesting a pair of jeans). it sure is healthier to your body and your mind to spend your money on jeans... :)

  8. I sized up two from my usual jean size(Samurai, Oni, Warehouse 660). I sized the same as I wear in eternal 811. These are jeans that shrink from tagged size, not to tagged size.

That is what I did too. Though, 01 cut is coming to my way.

  9. Thanks, Florian.FloC.

I am just trying to make up my mind about which fabric to choose when 03 cut is available. I don't know any details besides what HJJ posted on his blog. However, I think they made a limited run of the WWII model a couple years back. Check their blog ---> http://rhr.blog105.fc2.com/blog-date-20070808.html

Aah, ok. I bet they have their hands full with this recent gaijin-peak and the WW2 cut will have to wait! :)

hurhur, where did you size up two, your normal jeans size or your "true size"? I sized up one from my true size, which is one bigger than my usual jeans size.

  10. Nice pair fre$co. How do you like the fit?

Funny thing, denims number 29, 36 and 52 were on my top four list just by looking at the pictures. I ended up choosing none of the above, but number 21.

Snake, do you have any info regarding the WW2 cut? Size chart maybe? :)
