  1. thanks guys.

ande - i appreciate your support. your jean making thread helped me out a lot.

ddml - thanks, i live in a very old apartment building in sunset park, brooklyn. i had to do a lot of my own renovation to get it livable but it turned out nice.

    thorns - hehe

  2. ok, so i soaked them all day while i went to work.

when i got home, i threw in the spin cycle of my washing machine and then hung dry.

they shrunk a little so i am happy with them for a baggy fit.

    check em out:

like i said, next time, i will make them a couple sizes smaller.

these were modelled after a 32" waist (they are probably a little bigger since i decided not to taper them in at the waist). i could realistically fit into a 30", so these are pretty big for me.

still, i like the look. the denim actually looks better after i washed it. these will be my baggy pair. btw, i'm 5'9" waist 31, inseam 32, 153 pounds.

Nice jeans, by the way. I'm really starting to dig the idea of getting a pair.

does anyone know if the measurements at hinoya are before or after washing?

(a question probably already answered somewhere in this thread, but can't be arsed to search...sorry)

they only sell one-wash, so it's after washing (one time).
  5. cheap mofo, again, i am amazed at your ability to get away with hot shit for low duckets. i'm still impressed with the ralph lauren selvage you bought for like $15.

have you tried the rustler rigid indigos? they seem like they are even tougher than the 13mwz. i am thinking about getting a pair and altering them.

okay, i just spoke to someone at history preservation in the hopes of procuring a few packets of their fabled 2-step denim detergent. HOWEVER, he flatly informed me that the detergent is only available with a purchase of their dungarees.

is there another way to get sugar cane detergent? anyone have any extra?

if not, is anyone placing an order with his/pres soon that wouldn't mind me piggybacking an order of said detergent?

i'm fighting off the dark clouds but the outlook is bleak.

i hereby invoke the holy ringring oracle.

Well, if you're gonna invoke....I'll send you a couple. PM me your address. It may take awhile as I'm on the hoof for a bit.

    *I don't work for Sugarcane

ok you have a couple options.

like someone said before, azabu-juban is one of the best places to stay for cheap. you can get a room for 3000 yen a night. it is best to find someone who can speak and read japanese because i don't think these places cater to foreigners.

    here is another tip:

there are many internet cafe's that run a 5 or 7 hour special at night. so you can stay from midnight to 5-7 am. cost is less than $10. they have free non-alcoholic drinks and there is a shower you can use. if you are by yourself, this is the cheapest way to go. the regular hourly rates are also cheap anyways, so you can get a couple hours of sleep pretty cheaply.

btw, japanese internet cafes provide you with a large comfy reclining chair, internet access, tv, magazines all in your private little booth.

there is a great internet cafe right in the middle of roppongi with a beautiful view of the city.

    hope this helps!

how do you go about booking a internet cafe?

    --- Original message by poly800rock on Apr 25, 2006 10:11 PM

you don't book. it's an internet cafe, so you go into the cafe and pay for a certain amount of hours. it's really the sweetest deal for a place to sleep in tokyo. it's designed for businessmen ("salary-man") who miss the last train back home and have to go to work in the morning. many of them crash at the internet cafe, wake up, use the shower, go to the discount store and buy a cheap dress shirt and their good to go.
  8. whatsup y'all. glad you guys like my jeans. i know they are baggy, but i wanted them to be a little big.

the next pair of jeans i make will be slim fitting. i soaked these jeans for the whole day so i hope that they shrunk a little.

captain5640 - if you are having trouble with finding a jean that fits you, i could possibly make a pair for your measurements. pm me if you are interested.

Dogfarm - i am self-taught. i learned most of the stuff from books i got from the FIT (fashion institute of technology) bookstore and from online. i got some tips from http://sewing.patternreview.com. mostly middle-aged women there, but they sure as hell know how to sew. oh, my mom is an expert tailor (but for traditional japanese kimono), so i guess it's in my blood. i hope she will teach me how to sew kimono since it is really a vanishing artform.

icegrillz - it took me two days to draw the pattern, then about 5 days to sew. i work during the day so i could only work a couple hours a night. everytime i would fuck up a section, i would do that part over again, so it feels like i have made 3 or 4 pairs of jeans already. i would love to make some custom jeans for people. i think i could help out people who have trouble finding the perfect fit.

if anyone has an idea or wants something in particular, pm me. maybe we can work something out.

cheapmuthafuckr, i am continually amazed at your ability to find cheap, good shit. wow.
  10. believe it or not, there is a place you can go for cheap designer denim.

century 21 has a huge selection of true religion, diesel, rogan, paper, etc. even evisu!

personally, over-distressed denim is not my style, but they are usually on sale for half or less of their retail price.

i found a beautiful pair of dry evisu selvage jeans for like $40. only thing was that it was a size 44 waist!!! i thought for 5 minutes if it was even possible to alter them to fit me (i'm a size 31). didn't work out.

  11. batorizer, big props for being yourself and not taking what people say seriously at all.

i thought your pics were dope, even though, having seen a lot of gun violence, i'm pretty anti-gun. guns and denim go back a long way in this country, like it or not.

  12. whatsup. i was looking for a good blank t-shirt that is cheaper that american apparel but as good or better quality. guess what, the answer is: uniqlo. their t-shirts are the fuckin truth. they also make super-dope blank hoodies (and jeans, and shirts, etc.)

perfect for printing on or customizing. gonna get me a bunch this weekend and make some t-shirts. i will post pics.
