  1. you're right, but it's hard to wait, man.

btw, i speak fluent japanese, my wife is japanese and i have friends all over japan. would it be worth it to have a friend purchase a pair and mail it to me? i wouldn't have to pay my friend, just the cost of the jeans, shipping and customs (which shouldn't be too bad).

  2. i am deciding whether to buy a new pair of raw selvage now (i live in NYC) or wait till i go to japan (probably in september).

the benefits of waiting are a) i will be able to try many pairs on in japan vs. looking at photos online, B) i should have a little more money saved up by then, and c) the jeans should be cheaper over there, plus i won't need to pay any shipping or customs.

the only benefit of getting a pair now is that i will get a pair now!

    anyone have any opinions/suggestions?

  3. here are my 2 cents.

in roppongi, my favorite ramen are:

ippuu do (my all time favorite tonkotsu ramen -- just recently voted #1 in japan)

tenka ippi (might be a little too hearty, but i like it sometimes, especially after drinking)

there is a very small tan-tan men shop that is run by chinese immigrants (it's actually in nishi-azabu, next to roppongi). they have the best tan-tan men i have ever tasted. i can ask my wife what it is called if anyone wants to know.

if you want to eat for cheap, go to hanamaru udon. you can eat a great bowl of udon with toppings for a few dollars.

    sushi:

i agree that early morning sushi at the tsukiji fish market is probably the best sushi in the world. if you want the best sushi place at tsukiji, go to Sushi Daiwa.

however, if you want cheap and good sushi, go to the kaiten sushi shops in Ueno. although ueno is not known for its sushi, my wife and i found a couple places that were awesome. one place had "hon-maguro"--"true maguro" which is tuna that has not been frozen. it's a very rare treat. it was the best tuna i ever had.

    check the menlo park uniqlo.

they didn't know if they were going to get another shipment at the soho store...

on a side note, i have a pair of their non-shuttle loom jeans in 32x32 and they fit me even better than the selvedge. there is a huge difference in the cut between my selvedge 31x34 and my non-selvedge 32x32, especially in the seat region (the non-selvedge is much roomier).

a raw selvedge with the cut of the non-selvedge would be perfect. but hey.

  5. whatsup

i just came back from the soho uniqlo store and bought the last two pairs (one in each color) in 30 and the last two in 31.

they are very nice. btw, they were $25 a pair. ridiculous. icon_smile.gif

    peace!
