ddml, thanks. i like them more and more everyday. i guess that's a sign of a good pair of jeans.
  2. hey lilbucu, can you post pics of the jeans on you? i want to compare the fit with the LVCs you posted before.

about the crease in the picture, it could be just for the catalog. i've seen catalog pictures of 13mwz's with creases, but they don't have creases when you buy them.

does wrangler have a store anywhere?

  3. hey guys, thanks for the compliments!

i got the denim from a local nyc fabric store in the garment district. i am considering buying some selvage denim, waiting on some swatches to arrive from overseas.

the legs are a little wide, i will change that in my next pair.

eventually, i want to make completely custom jeans for denim-heads. meaning, the customer would specify the cut, the denim, the pocket fabric, the back pocket design (i.e. embroidery, fabric, etc.), the buttons/rivets, the works.

i know a lot of people are having trouble finding a pair that fits them the way they want, or has the features they want. i hope in the very near future, to be able to make some nice jeans for the members of this forum!

anyways, i have more pics on my blog:

    http://mizanation.blogspot.com

i will be making some t-shirts maybe this weekend which i will post on my blog. also, i want to make some leather accessories and custom shirts.

those look effin' sweet man, has all the shrinkin been accounted for already? whats the shine/sheen on them like?

    --- Original message by Becks23 on Apr 24, 2006 11:43 PM

they are one wash so if i wash them they will shrink more. but i'm not gonna wash them, maybe dryclean when they get dirty.

the 47 sugarcanes are really slubby, so they don't have too much of a sheen on them. more fuzzy than anything.

  5. here's my first foray into jean making.

i patterned them after a 501 cut, but they are a little baggy. hopefully, they will shrink after i soak them. i couldn't get any selvage denim, so i got creative with the seams.

  6. here are pics of my 4 day old sugarcanes (one wash). 5'9" 153LB, 31X34

big ups to hinoya on rakuten. if anyone needs help communicating with them, holla at me.

anyways, these fit a lot snugger than i usually wear jeans but i'm getting used to them:

  7. Quoting lilbucu:

really... is it basically the same cut? any pictures online?

i think my next pair of denim will have to be heavier wieght and lower rise. possibly stright leg.

how much did hte sugarcanes run you? (i'm preparing to kick myself after i hear the answer).

what difference do you notice b/t lvc 47 and the sugarcane 47's? i can only think of the selvedge and pocket pattern...

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

it's an authentic repro of the original 1947 levi.

check out the sugarcane thread, there's a lot of good info there:

    http://superfuture.com/city/supertalk/index.cfm?page=topic&topicID=5298

also go to history preservation, but don't order from them (too pricey):

    http://historypreservation.com/hpassociates/sugarcane_2.php

i got mine from a rakuten shop (japanese online shop)

i paid 12800 yen which is about $107.

shipping and customs shouldn't be too bad.

i am not sure what the differences are (i've only seen the LVC in person, the sugarcane's i've only seen pictures) but they are probably pretty similar (in cut). maybe you can find out in the sugarcane thread.

good stuff. might have to get me a pair.

funny thing is, in nyc, the 13mwz is actually hard to find, it's probably easier to find a nudie or apc...

Dave's Army and Navy on 16th and 6th ave has them.

--- Original message by mspark on Apr 12, 2006 03:38 PM

yup, for $25. cheapest in NYC.

oh yeah, if i had to rate the quality of denim, the premiums are at the bottom. but still nicer compared to the STF 501 (which fit bad on me for some reason?)

--- Original message by lilbucu on Apr 11, 2006 12:08 AM

the STF 501s are cut differently from your premiums which could be why they don't fit you as well. if you think about the kind of demographic the STF 501s have to cover (racial, economic and cultural), it's insane.

btw, where do you train mma? i train in NYC at www.roninathletics.com.

--- Original message by mizanation on Apr 12, 2006 09:26 AM

oh yhea, i was comparing denim from the premiums vs the STFs, but i was comparing fit b/t STFs vs LVC 1947 501xx.

i just train with my friends at our university gym, but i plan on training at AMC kickboxing (http://www.pankration.com/) this summer.

--- Original message by lilbucu on Apr 12, 2006 06:54 PM

i grew up in seattle and knew some people who trained at amc a long time ago.

definitely train there, it's the best place in washington.

why don't you buy the sugarcane 47's next time? even with shipping, if you order from japan, they should be cheaper than the your LVC's.

i just ordered mine, should be here in a week or so...

does anyone know where i can pick up a pair in NYC?

i went to target but they didn't have rigid indigo (which i am assuming is raw?).

    maybe an army navy store?

buy your true size, or size up for a looser fit.

  11. ok you have a couple options.

like someone said before, azabu-juban is one of the best places to stay for cheap. you can get a room for 3000 yen a night. it is best to find someone who can speak and read japanese because i don't think these places cater to foreigners.

    here is another tip:

there are many internet cafe's that run a 5 or 7 hour special at night. so you can stay from midnight to 5-7 am. cost is less than $10. they have free non-alcoholic drinks and there is a shower you can use. if you are by yourself, this is the cheapest way to go. the regular hourly rates are also cheap anyways, so you can get a couple hours of sleep pretty cheaply.

btw, japanese internet cafes provide you with a large comfy reclining chair, internet access, tv, magazines all in your private little booth.

there is a great internet cafe right in the middle of roppongi with a beautiful view of the city.

    hope this helps!

ive noticed that most people who contribute to one forum contribute to another. so what other forums are you a part of.

i pesonaly check superfuture and headfi as much as i can. but i also check revolutionaryleft.com alot.

and if you think $200 is alot of money to blow on jeans, check how much people spend on headphones. ive spent about $1500. and im thinking about getting a ppx3 slam for $800 or so.

a toast to the finer things in life.

--- Original message by red on Apr 11, 2006 10:38 PM

wow, just checked out that head-fi forum and it's very, very cool.

i've done a lot of studio work but i didn't know the headphone game was that deep. i will definitely check that forum out more.

btw, my personal all time favorite headphones are:

Beyer Dynamic DT770 Closed Monitors (i think best bang for the buck and you can't beat the velour pads)

Koss Portapro (lifetime warrantee, cheap, with great range and low end)

  14. traditionally, the rule of thumb is, a suit should be long enough so that when you have your arms hanging down, you should be able to curl your knuckles around the bottom of the suit.

42R should be pretty big for you, no?

Edited by mizanation on Apr 12, 2006 at 08:39 AM

  15. if you can take a trip to southeast asia, they have very, very good tailors that can make custom suits for you. you pick out the fabric and the styling. the price is super cheap. i have a friend who gets all his suits and shirts made in vietnam and they are super nice.

i can ask my friend where he gets it done if you want. just send me a message.

  16. thanks guys for your help.

i have taken everyone's comments into consideration and i know what i am going to do.

i am going to buy a pair sent to me now

    AND

go shopping in japan in september. dillema solved!!!

i appreciate all the tips especially rnr's tip on having a friend try them on.

i will post pics when i get them (i'm getting the sugarcane 47s, the okinawas looked tempting but i wanted a darker color).

if you guys have any questions about japanese websites or need basic translations, hit me up.

  17. i saw the 1947 sugarcanes at history preservation for $217 + $15 shipping.

    FUCK THAT!

on rakuten, they are going for 12800 yen (less than $110 USD). at that price, i can cop two of them.

ok, i made up my mind. thanks guys, i'm out!
