  1. why do some of the alden 405 boots from leathersoul have a close trim heel while others do not???

Those that wear size 11D and like Indy Boots...Leather Soul has a few pairs up on Ebay (#8, Black Ultimate Indy, Suede) for better than normal pricing.

    Also...a pair of used 9.5EE Cigar 405s.

Hope someone gets a chance to scoop these up.

  2. most of the shoe stores that stock alden stock one of their orthopedic modified last models like the v-tip or cap toe. i would recommend going this route to find your size because this last can be tricky to fit. for comparisons i have the indy boot in a 10 b/d and modified last boots in 9.5 c/e and 10 c/e.

Thanks for all the help with the Grant fitting all...While we are on the subject though for those of you who have the Modified Last from Alden how does that compare to an 11E in Trubalance? I'm seriously contemplating tracking a pair of boots in the Modified Last but have no way to try them on seen as though they are for the most part non existent in the U.S.
  3. these are on the modified last. look like the tanker boot that anatomica in paris makes with the hand stitched crown and extended heel counter.

Hmmm...Could these be the "Indy's" that were mentioned a few pages back that a few of this forums members were getting done through Tom?...Supposidly they were doing a 405 on a different last....Seems like these could fit the bill...I would like to find out what last they used though as these look very intersting...
  4. if you want to see hastily/imperfect stitched denim look at most pairs of vintage levi's/denim. this is one of details i love about vintage denim. they seemed more personal and irregular. you could tell the mood or state of the worker making the jeans. upside down labels and tags, uneven arcuates, missed stitches, etc... people might have had more pride in their jobs at that time over what you see now but i don't think the level of quality control and the ability to produce something in such uniform mass quantity/quality exists then like it does now. as far as durability goes i do think that a modern levi will last as long or longer than a piece produced in the heyday of denim.

The pairs I've seen recently seem hastily stitched and of a more flimsy cloth - but that's all today's consumer demands as long as the item is 'fashionable'.

  5. beware of factory rejects at moulded shoe. most of their stock is. look for the circle R stamped on the sole and/or on the inside.

i have a couple pairs on the anatomica modified last and one is 9.5c/e and the other a 10c/e. in the true balance and the barrie i wear a 10c/e. really is almost the same fit from last to last in terms of room in the toe. the modified just hugs the arch a little more. if you lack an arch to your foot i wouldn't recommend this last.

Thanks for your help man. Turbulance does fit snug on me.. I might go with 8.5D I guess. But I might go to Moulded Shoes tomorrow just to be sure. They have this Black suede boot I wanna check out anyway. That shoe is close to what I'm getting. This is mine..

  6. it's just you.....or it could be the weirdo outfit she is wearing. are those black spandex tights or is that leather??

foolishly passed on an original but pretty beat pair of these at a vintage store in detroit about 7 or 8 years ago. if self edge gets them might have consider.

Any place that carries Real McCoy's. Figure Japan, Take 5 in HK, Faith in Taiwan, and soon to be in Self Edge in SF, US.

Is it me, or does these boots look better on a gal…?

  7. once you go with the modified last you won't consider any other alden. i learned the hard way buying the split toes on the bulky sloppy fitting barre last after getting the navy high boots and cap toes.

the styles made for Anatomica are exclusive to them from what i understand and I think all styles are on the narrow arched modified last. don't remember seeing any loafers or 405 boots there. they do have a boot similar to the 405 boot without the mocc toe and in a very nice close to natural cordovan color i have never seen on anything else....when i called last they said they only had a couple pairs left and none in my size (10). price in US $ is around $1000.

It seems that the main reason to get Alden shoes in either Japan or from Anatomica in France (if it fits well) is because most of the shoes are on the modified last. The modified last is not available to Alden New England dealers, but is available at Alden orthopedic retailers. This severely limits the available selection here in the US. So, if you want a shoe on the modified last, you have to pay the higher Japanese (and presumably Anatomica's) price. This restriction protects the respective markets. Otherwise, buying from the US seems to be a wise decision.
  8. jomon is 14oz unbleached organic zimbabwae handpick and the raw jomon are only available here in the states and only online or at the upper east location. also the jomon does not fade to white so this jean will never fade with any contrast. please take a look at the upper east store to see color samples of how jomon fades.
