  1. oh yes and i forgot zingermans. love the blueberry buckle and brooklyn eggcreams at the cafe and all the sandwiches are great.

get someone to take you to hey june (une) on a nice fall night and pickeral lake is great for summer swims.

    oh yeah zingerman's.

    blind pig for hiphop.

  2. i lived in ann arbor for almost 9 years. stick with jerusalem garden for middle eastern, eastern accents for bebimbop and treats, encore for records/cds, bars...well after the del rio closed it's been all downhill, coffee and brunch at cafe zola, groceries at peoples food co-op, indian buffet at raja rani but indian dinners at shalimar, burgers at blimpy, fine dining at bella ciao, liquor at main st.party store or village corner, outside drinking on the traintracks behind the ymca, living in the old west side (avoid anything if you are not a student east of main street. be warned)., etc...if i think of anything more i'll post it.

  3. i've heard that mr. mcqueen was so fit conscious he would go threw as many as a 100 pairs of jeans until he found one that fit perfect wear that pair for a few months and then repeat the performance with a new pair.

I reckon it has to be the 55 cut - just worn tight. They do make great skinny jeans if you wear them actual size. Maybe Steve sat in the bath with his. It's possible there were extra fit changes, it's somethign I'd like to find out about.
  4. wesco, lone wolf, real mccoy (buco repros), carolina, red wing japan. those are the only nice ones I have ever seen. I have the Wesco and I love them. They are heavy but are balanced well so they don't feel heavy after a long day or wearing/walking in them. Only problem is they are made to order and take about 4 months. Also check out the gokey/orvis for a non-traditional engineer with a mocc toe.

I though I'd use this thread so I don't clutter the place up with a new one, anyone got any recomendations for nice engineer boots? Something a bit along the lines of sydneys I guess.
  5. just purchased a pair of 555 201's and I will agree that these are the nicest of all the LVC line jeans I have seen. The denim is amazing and has almost the same iridescent quality I have seen in the aizome dyed Jomon but with more of greenish cast instead of the red of the Jomon. Nice details with the copper plated rivets, black-enamelled buttons, linen patch, etc... A new favorite.

  6. perhaps ashton kutcher is wearing the red wings because of their increased popularity in the fashion "underground"...like on here. i'm sure the shoot was styled and i know plenty of stylist who follow these messageboards. also perhaps every hunter and construction worker that sees some streetwear kid sporting some red wing or work boots thinks that streetwear or hipster or wannabe working class hero is a tool. we can always find some reason to get all bent out of shape about something.........

It doesn't matter which actor it is, it's the principle. When someone wears your coveted article of clothing, you get all bent out of shape. Not you per say, you in general.

And I don't think anyone can deny that Kelso is freaking awesome.

  7. In the field of yarn dyeing, for instance, hank dyeing has been performed by forming yarns into hanks, hanging the hank yarns on a rod of a hank dyeing machine, and flowing a dye liquor through the hank yarns from the inside toward the outside thereof while revolving the hank yarns, whereby the dye liquor comes in even contact with the yarns and an even dyeing is attained. However, this method requires time-consuming laborious work in hanking, hank reeling and yarn connecting. Moreover, the dyeing process cannot be automatized, necessitating laborious work and is performed under poor working conditions. Because of the reasons above, cheese dyeing is currently superseding the hank dyeing.

When cheese dyeing is carried out, it has been the practice that as shown in the accompanying FIGS. 2a and 2b, yarns to be dyed are wound upon bobbins for dyeing to make parallel cheeses or cone cheeses (11) and they are piled on a spindle (12) one upon another while interposing a spacer (13) between each of the bobbins. Here, it is required to wind up the yarns softly and evenly in order that the resulting cheeses may be brought into even contact with a dye liquor.

However, shoulder parts of the cheeses where yarns are turned back or portions of the cheeses on which a tension due to winding up of the yarns concentrates have caused unevenness in winding density, which has resulted in uneven dyeing. As a consequence, in order to eliminate the drawbacks, efforts have been made to attain evenness in winding density as far as possible by, for example, levelling off the shoulder parts or performing soft winding by means of a to-and-fro motion or feed rollers.

Nevertheless it has not been possible to obviate unevenness in winding density, and consequently, it has been extremely difficult to pursue even dyeing characteristics, since a dye liquor flows smoothly through soft portions of the cheeses, but is difficult to flow through high-density portions of the cheeses.

  8. i don't think that the early (turn of the century to the 20's) or later (60's)sweet orr tags had the men pulling the jeans or shirt apart. maybe in the end they ran into legal problems with Levis and they pulled it.

Sweet orr has done it since I believe the turn of the century. Many brands did it.
  9. back in the 20(?)'s to 50's Sweet Orr did it as well with people pulling jeans/shirts apart in tug o war Levis style.

p.s. didnt know people have been spoofing the levis logo long before Japanese brands? (the two elephants are pulling apart the jeans)

  10. not japanese rock but hardcore or punk...

    G.I.S.M.

    Death Side

    the Comes

    WarHead

    Gauze

    Systematic Death

    Bastard

    Confuse

    Kuro

    .....all amazing.

When the hardcore scene in the rest of the world went stale in the mid to late 80's Japan picked up the paces and put out some of the best records not only of the time but ever. Most of these releases went ignored because of limited quantites pressed and poor distribution outside of Japan. From what I understand Japan at that time didn't have any (or maybe just very few) vinyl pressing plants making it very expensive and hard to produce a record.

  11. is it Dave's? I know they were trying unsuccessfully to reorder 1905s. Try Pop's Popular Clothing on Franklin in Greenpoint. When I bought mine there last year they had mulitiples of each size sitting around collecting dust. I told quite a few people about this place and know they sold quite a few since I started spreading the word but they might have your size still.

    Pop's Popular Clothing (it's a workwear store)

    7 Franklin St

    Brooklyn, NY 11222

    (718) 349-7677

There's a place here that might be able get my size in the 1905s, and it's the same price as the 875s with an emphasis on the might. The guy called up RW and they may or may not have it. I need to leave a deposit, and a size. If I decide not to take them, there's a percentage I pay for restocking. I already have the 875. Should I take a chance and order the 1905s?

  12. MIGHT just be the lighting, the camera or/and the photographer.

Yeah, the raw ones are insane. 45rpm must beat the shit out of their jeans. I'll probably go the raw route if I can ever afford Jomons. Look like an entirely different jean.
  13. i have the lone wolf carperter with the cats paw sole and i love it. the white rubber sole vibram (if that's what you mean) might be a bit more comfortable as that cats paw on mine is pretty hard also the traction on that cats paw is horrible in the snow.

anyone here has tried on or has a pair of these lonewolf boots?

what would you suggest getting the black or the white soles?

  14. you're missing out on the point...it's the history behind these jeans. the story that they tell. most of the jeans being worn by people on this board (me included) are worn in an office, to school, by kids rubbing sandpaper on their jeans etc...which is fine but these 501's are a completely different story altogether.

For as cool as those are, I feel like we have jeans in the sammy contest that are even nicer.
  15. nicest suminandos i've seen. good job, coldrice.

so here's my suminando's before i sent them off to 45rpm soho to get some repairs done again. they're 2.5 years old, worn for half that time maybe. there's very little whiskering because i travelled a lot in them (to shady-ish places) and had to keep my passport/wallet in my front pockets. the blue hue that comes through is hard to capture.. but it's evident in the right light. love these jeans, but they take forever to break in... maybe that's a good thing though
  16. while yes the denim is different i don't think that is going to be the deciding factor on whether or not that this persons jacket will fade like that the one you have pictured as much as it's going to be the way it was worn. that jacket has some serious well worked miles on it. the kind of miles i don't think the general population on this board will ever log.

Probably wont because it is made out of different denim . Good luck.
