  1. i'm biased towards islays so would pick the ardbeg and talisker. haven't tried that bowmore, so can't really say. connosr is a good place to get more opinions. the nikka might also be worth a go. their 'nikka from the barrel' is fantastic.

  2. Gf and I stumbled across bar constellation when we were there two weeks ago, and it was pretty good apart from the clientele that night (tuhao, rich kids, weird old ppl and a salaryman passed out at the counter)...but the staff were great and the owner kin was a top guy. very comprehensive list of drinks. About two hundred whiskies and the cocktails are meant to be pretty good.

Cordurov is definitely worth checking out if you're alone or in a small party. Would recommend if you're after some place peaceful but different in shanghai. Lab looks pretty good for a drink too but didn't get the chance to visit.

Katos kitchen does good jap cuisine, and the yakitori is tops. Can't remember anything else that memorable.

All of the places mentioned are smokers friendly.

Shopping's expensive with the 30% luxury tax. Can't claim that when leaving either. Shops that stood out were ziggy chen and uma wang. Chinese goth ninja labels basically. Heard eth0s is also good for that kinda gear. Gyakusou was also running an exhibition upstairs of the previous collections if ur into that kinda thing.

Three days ain't much so hope u make the most of it.

  3. ^When I was a kid, one of my teachers said she was most impressed by referees in football, which was a really interesting perspective at the time (and still even now) given that the vast majority of the fandom is towards the players. Nice share from a first person perspective.

  4. Grilled Cheese - Boukhari has insane individual talent but the videos out there looks like he's probably playing at an amateur state level. Would really like to see him against professional competition, and I wonder if any of the pro teams have considered signing him on. Anyway, at the end of the day teamwork is still where it's at!

  5. been obsessed lately...would read malt madness on weeknights till 2 in the morning and add bottles to the online checkout ready to go ...was practically waiting for the liquor store to open one saturday morning; it did not feel healthy. rotating between lagavulin 16, dalmore 18 and nikka from the barrel right now. i'm amazed that the nikka can taste so good at such a high ABV. the last drop always tastes like chocolate to me. tossing up between an aberlour a'bunah or something australian like a sullivans cove next.

  6. been playing for over ten years. most interesting story is when we were 16 or something and playing five-a-side semi-final against an older and more experienced team. we were 5-4 down and it was getting heated. received the ball close go goals and i was about to shoot when one of the opposition came from behind and grabbed my nuts. no foul give. dirtiest move ever. think a fight broke out afterwards but i really only remember the ball grabbing.

anyways...knee problems these days and more recently chronic pain in the heels. can't walk or run much so just gonna give it a break. anyone had similar experiences?

I will admit, the last few months I have really been in a rut. Due to some personal issues I, a pretty average guy, ended up learning quite a few new terms. Like 'harassment', 'court order', 'stalking', and 'restraining order'. I am no legal scholar, I barely made it through the last 3 years of high school. But I can tell you this. I love my Lorraine, even if she is a little stand offish at the moment. When my lawyer told me that I couldn't come within 100 yards of her, I was heart broken. Mostly because I'm no damned Canadian, and had to convert yards to feet, but also because I knew it would be harder for me and my sweet Lorraine to be together. Then this baby came along. I can now sit outside and watch her all through the morning, and the afternoon, and the night, twilight, trips to the gym, when she picks out the best tomatoes at safeway, while filling her car with gas, walking into that doctors office last Wednesday around 4:15:32pm. It's really turned my life around.

I will always love you Lorraine, and thank you Canon for keeping her in my life.

  8. Anyone willing to look over my resume for me? Recently took off my GPA and I stopped even receiving interview opportunities so I guess I should re-include it. Apparently some people have told me my resume is weak but they didn't offer much feedback. Dunno ... I'm two months out of my undergrad with no prospect of work

what field are you in? i like looking at these things and giving feedback.

  9. I think there are two types of shitters.

The courteous ones who make as little noise as possible, and waits until the coast is clear before he/she comes out and washes up. (I move my feet strategically as well to increase discrepancy.)

And then there are those who will just come out when they feel like it and start a convo at the wash basin. Had a few of those at work. Couldn't help but smile awkwardly whilst trying to act natural.

  10. Got placed into a 'high profile' role at work by management where I'll be coordinating a bunch of important numbers, dealing with senior and executive management, flying business class overseas for meetings, and delivering one-day training courses to staff. The supervisor is highly respected within the company and I hope to pick up lots from the guy. Pretty excited but anxious at the same time. Just coming into my forth year in the workforce and expectations only get higher. Never really liked presenting or public speaking either, and always have had lingering doubts about my competence. The next two years ought to be interesting to say the least :)

On another note, going to KL on Thursday for the weekend with riding buddies, Sydney next month to see some old mates, and Shanghai in a few more months to visit family. Did Japan for the first time this year, too.

    Life's good.

  11. My right ear doesn't drain fluids properly. Think I pushed some ear wax in too deep and been trying to get it out with some peroxide solution from the pharm. shit just gets blocked up for hours and nothing works. Tried jumping, saline flush with syringe, jaw movements, various head tilts, supermaninng on to the bed, suction with palm with gravity assist...fml

    Oh and eczema

  12. Going to Shanghai in late-Jan to early-Feb with the gf. We want to take a side-trip to somewhere relatively close, cheap and good. Woulda be hella keen for a week in Vietnam, Sichuan or even Lhasa. Any other must-do's or recommendations that I should consider?
